What we're about

Shut Up & Write!™ is more than a movement, more than a good idea. We’re a method of writing that delivers. As an international organization, we are thousands of writers in a worldwide community, but most importantly, we are writers who write together in a local cafe. Join us.

We have events every week, all over. Sometimes we talk after. Whatever you’re writing, whatever form it takes, wherever you are in your process, you won’t be the only one.

And if you need help with your writing, we offer that too.Want to know more? Check us out: www.shutupwrite.com. Or get in touch: questions@shutupwrite.com.

Meetup Event FormatIt is an empowering and rewarding experience to write an hour each week, at the same time and place. It serves as powerful support for building your daily writing discipline.

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled. At the Meetup our Organizer will lead introductions and then everyone will sit down and write.

Afterwards, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. The Shut Up & Write!™ format brings a social facet to a normally isolated craft.

Our Meetups are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

“Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else.“ - Gloria Steinem

This is your time to write.

Shut Up & Write!™ Bothell

The Cottage Coffee Shop & Bistro

Join us for an hour of writing! We’ve discovered that it’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 9 AM on Tuesday mornings. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. 9:00 - quick intros. 9:15 - timer starts: write for 1 hour. 10:15 - (the end) chat / take off / keep writing. The Cottage Coffee & Bistro closes at 9pm. SEATING: We'll sit together near the fireplace, or choose a spot anywhere if you prefer your own table. GUIDELINES: The Cottage Coffee & Bistro serves great coffee and baked treats. It also serves savory lunch, dinner, beer and wine. Please thank our hosts by purchasing something. • The Cottage Coffee & Bistro does have free WiFi. • There will be only limited access to power outlets for laptops - please come with your laptops precharged. • Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons. TRAVEL / PARKING: There is 2 hour street parking available and limited parking just in the lot in front of the building. Bothell is easily reached by bus. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 10.15am. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session.
