What we're about

For more virtual events, join our Online Events Meetup here: https://www.meetup.com/shutupandwriteonlineevents/

Shut Up & Write!® is more than a movement, more than a good idea. We’re a method of writing that delivers. As an international organization, we are thousands of writers in a worldwide community, but most importantly, we are writers who write together in a local cafe. Join us.

We have events every week, all over. Sometimes we talk after. Whatever you’re writing, whatever form it takes, wherever you are in your process, you won’t be the only one.

And if you need help with your writing, we offer that too.

Meetup Event Format

It is an empowering and rewarding experience to write an hour each week, at the same time and place. It serves as powerful support for building your daily writing discipline.

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled. At the Meetup our Organizer will lead introductions and then everyone will sit down and write.

Afterwards, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. The Shut Up & Write!® format brings a social facet to a normally isolated craft.

Our Meetups are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

“Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else.“ - Gloria Steinem

This is your time to write.

**ONLINE** Event: Shut Up & Write!™ Shoreline

Online event

Join us virtually for two hours of uninterrupted writing!

It’s strikingly helpful to write with other writers, even if our shared presence is virtual. See if it’s true for you at 10:00am on Saturdays. We'll use Google Meet (which is similar to Zoom); the link becomes available only when you RSVP.

Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or query letter, you are invited to write it with us. In the editing stage? You can work on that too. Don't worry, no one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.

SCHEDULE: (times are Pacific)
9:55 - Host(s) show up on Google Meet. Brief introductions. Timer starts no later than 10:10—mute your mic and start writing!
11:00 - 10 minute break (optional), or keep writing.
12:00 - Timer stops. Chat, sign off, or keep writing.

WHAT DO I NEED?
A computer with working camera and microphone and a good internet connection.

GUIDELINES:

• RSVP in advance to reveal the link to the Google Meet address
• Please MUTE yourself after the timer is started
• Since we will be in each other's virtual company, you are encouraged to keep your video camera ON during the session; it helps keep us accountable and motivated
• You might want to turn your video camera OFF when you need to leave to take a break, answer the phone, or do something other than write; it can be a distraction
• If you need to leave early, or otherwise speak to someone in the group during the timed writing, please use the CHAT text feature instead of speaking out loud
• Socialize before or after the session

DISABILITIES: Let the hosts know in advance if you need any accommodation. We will do our best to help.

BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up, turn ON your camera, turn OFF your mic, and start writing! Type us a note in the Chat if you like.

Who is this group open for? EVERYONE who wants dedicated time to write.

Happy writing and we look forward to seeing you!

**ONLINE** Shut Up & Write!™ Ballard - **ONLINE**

Online event

Hello -- and sorry for the confusion we had on the morning of August 9, 2021. We're now on Zoom: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/89320433513?pwd=Tmc3azUvVjlqNzhqY3lYVmNzdmZDQT09

********************
Since mid-August 2020, our formerly Ballard (Seattle) neighborhood-based chapter of Shut Up & Write has become national (and even international!) in its online avatar. Our members seem to be finding it motivating and helpful, and hosts Emily and Wendell would be pleased to welcome you to write with us.

The online link for the meeting is visible only if you RSVP. Because GoogleMeet has recently instituted time limits, we're testing out other platforms, and there may be a bit of confusion for the next couple of weeks until we find a permanent new home.

You can always write me at wendell.ricketts[at]gmail[dot]com with questions or suggestions.

So: Join us at 10am (Pacific) on Monday mornings for TWO hours of writing!

Whether it’s a book, blog, script, essay, story, dissertation, resume, melody, poem, screenplay or just plain work stuff, you are invited. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about it, come and get some real writing done.

SCHEDULE:
10:00 - quick intros, mike check, trouble-shooting, etc.
10:10 - timer starts: write for 50 minutes.
11:00 - short break.
11:10 - timer starts: write for 50 minutes.
12:00 - (the end) chat / take off / keep writing.

OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens during the break and at 12:00. Writing is very solitary - but so is everything these days. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.

BEING LATE IS OKAY, but ... keep in mind: Please sign in and enter the room without interrupting others if we’re in the midst of a 50-minute writing session.

LEAVING EARLY IS OKAY, but ... keep in mind: Please wait for the break or, if you can’t, exit the room without interrupting others if we’re in the midst of a 50-minute writing session.

What Should I Have Handy?
Whatever you need to write!

Happy writing!
