Shut Up & Write!™ (Back-to-Back 2 sessions)
Come join us for a session of focused writing! No time to get into the creative zone during the week? Get a head start on Sunday afternoons and write alongside others during one (or two) sessions of quiet, uninterrupted time. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Just show up and bring something to work on. Our goal is to create a supportive atmosphere where everyone can concentrate on their own work. You can (finally!) devote at least one hour a week to that writing project, be it short story, novel, poem, memoir, thesis, blog or a manifesto! Bring whatever you will need to write - laptop, pen, notebook, etc. We will do a brief intro for those who arrive on time and explain the day's format. If you arrive afterwards, just come on in (quietly) and find seat in the studio to set up and work. Each session lasts 1 hour. When you are done, you are free to stay and chat with fellow writers, or pack up and leave whenever you need to. During the writing sessions, you can take your personal small breaks, stand up and walk around---just be respectful of those who are working around you. Location: Diaspora Links Library (Musashi-Koyama, Tokyo) Schedule: 1:30pm - Those who wish to come early can grab a seat, set up, browse the library, and socialize before we start 2:00pm - Brief introduction before the session begins 2:10pm - Shut up and Write! (Session 1) 3:10 pm - End Session 1 ; Brief wrap-up & coffee/tea break for 10 minutes 3:20pm - Announce the beginning of the next session; Brief introduction for those who arrive for Session 2 3:30pm - Shut up and Write! (Session 2) 4:30pm - End Session 2; *Optional hangout to discuss and share our work. Those who wish to continue working can also do so while the studio is open. 5:00pm - The library will close at 5:00. -WiFi is available We ask that each participant donate 300 yen to the studio (to cover space rental, WiFi access and the coffee/tea provided at the studio). Please consider that it's still less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks---and we provide refills! Feel free to bring your own food/beverages. We'll offer a quick coffee & tea break in between sessions, but please keep in mind that Diaspora Links is NOT a cafe. If you'll need to fuel up on snacks, please make your own trip to the conbini nearby! Directions: Musashi-Koyama Station (Meguro Line). Go to the main shotengai (Palm Shopping Arcade), walk down until you see a McDonald's and turn right. Continue down the same street. Cross the first main road (pass New Beach Surf Shop on the left), then a smaller one (pass a tempura izakaya on the left). When you get to the Kuroneko delivery store, Diaspora Links is in the same building on the second floor (Ishigami Building 2F, Studio 4). If you are having trouble finding the location, please send the organizer CoffeeQuills (Jennifer) a message on MeetUp, or check the map on

    What we're about

Shut Up & Write!™ is more than a movement, more than a good idea. We’re a method of writing that delivers. As an international organization, we are thousands of writers in a worldwide community, but most importantly, we are writers who write together in a local cafe. Join us.

We have events every week, all over. Sometimes we talk after. Whatever you’re writing, whatever form it takes, wherever you are in your process, you won’t be the only one.

And if you need help with your writing, we offer that too.Want to know more? Check us out: Or get in touch:

    Meetup Event Format

It is an empowering and rewarding experience to write an hour each week, at the same time and place. It serves as powerful support for building your daily writing discipline.

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled. At the Meetup our Organizer will lead introductions and then everyone will sit down and write.

Afterwards, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. The Shut Up & Write!™ format brings a social facet to a normally isolated craft.

Our Meetups are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

“Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else.“ - Gloria Steinem

This is your time to write.
