What we're about

Shut Up & Write!™ is more than a movement, more than a good idea. We’re a method of writing that delivers. As an international organization, we are thousands of writers in a worldwide community, but most importantly, we are writers who write together in a local cafe. Join us.

We have events every week, all over. Sometimes we talk after. Whatever you’re writing, whatever form it takes, wherever you are in your process, you won’t be the only one.

And if you need help with your writing, we offer that too.

Meetup Event Format
It is an empowering and rewarding experience to write an hour each week, at the same time and place. It serves as powerful support for building your daily writing discipline.

RSVP and please arrive 10–15 minutes early to get settled. At the Meetup our Organizer will lead introductions and then everyone will sit down and write.

Afterwards, feel free to get to know each other. Members often talk about their successes and challenges as writers. The Shut Up & Write!™ format brings a social facet to a normally isolated craft.

Our Meetups are a safe space for writers to work on their craft. No one will read or critique your writing.

“Writing is the only thing that, when I do it, I don't feel I should be doing something else.“ - Gloria Steinem

This is your time to write.

Shut Up & Write!™ Sonoma County

Cafe Noto

Join us for an hour of writing in Windsor. We’ve discovered that it’s helpful to write with other writers. See if it’s true for you at 9 AM on Sunday. Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. SCHEDULE: 9 AM: Quick intros. 9:10 AM - Timer starts: Write for one hour. 10:10 AM - Chat / take off / keep writing. Cafe Noto is open until 5 PM. OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 10:10 AM. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing. BEING LATE IS OKAY: Just show up, get a coffee or other beverage of choice from the front counter, and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (I’ll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you you're on time, please make room for the friendly latecomer(s). Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at Cafe Noto. NO-SHOW POLICY: Being late is OK, but not showing up when you RSVP'ed YES isn't. We realize that life happens. If you can't make it to the meet-up, please, please update your RSVP to NO within 12 hours before the event, if at all possible. Since we often have a wait list, if you cancel within an hour of the event, then you’ll be listed as a “no-show.” We have a "three strikes" rule: If you flake out three times, you're out of the group. FAQ's: Q: What Should I Bring? A: Whatever you need to be able to write, whether that's a laptop computer or notebook and your favorite pen. Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafe’s overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons. Q: Will there be enough outlets for us to plug into? What's the WiFi password? A: There are several outlets, but there's no guarantee that we'll be able to access them, so charge your laptop battery before heading over. The cafe has free Wifi --- ask the barista for the code. Other Important Details: TRAVEL / PARKING: Take the 101 freeway exit for Central Windsor. Cafe Noto is located on the Windsor Town Green. GUIDELINES: Please thank the cafe by purchasing a drink and/or food.
