Where?
滇西, meaning Western Yunnan, refers to the vast region west of Kunming, characterised by dramatic high mountains, deep gorges, and rich ethnic cultures.

This route, Boshan - Tengchong - Yangbi 保山·腾冲·漾濞 covers the heart of Western Yunnan, blending volcanic geology, Silk Road history, and rugged mountain landscapes.

😍 In November, these three locations form the ultimate "Western Yunnan Golden Route." This is the peak window to witness the region's transition into a brilliant gold, with stable, sunny weather and cool, crisp air ideal for outdoor exploration. November offers a rare window to see the region's diverse landscapes—from ginkgo-carpeted villages to mist-shrouded canyons—all under stable, sunny skies.

1. Tengchong (腾冲): The Golden Fairy Tale & Fire
Tengchong is one of China's three major geothermal areas. November is the absolute best time to visit Tengchong, specifically for the Ginkgo Village.

• Ginkgo Village (Yinxing Cun): From mid-November to early December, over 30,000 ancient ginkgo trees turn a vibrant yellow, carpeting the village in gold. It is widely considered one of the most essential November destinations in China.
• Healing Hot Springs: The cooler November air makes the Hot Sea (Rehai) even more inviting. You can witness the "Big Boiling Pot" and enjoy a foot soak or a private soak in high-mineral volcanic waters.
• Ancient Charm: Heshun Ancient Town remains peaceful in November. The sunlight filtering through the traditional courtyards and libraries creates a serene "slow life" atmosphere.

2. Baoshan (保山): Forest & Coffee

• Gaoligong Mountain: November marks the prime "hiking season" as the rains stop. Trails through the primaeval jungle lead to hidden waterfalls like the Meiren (Beauty) Waterfall.
• Coffee Estates: It is the start of the Arabica coffee harvest in Lujiangba. Many estates offer "five-sense" tours where you can pick cherries and taste fresh roasts.

3. Yangbi (漾濞): Canyons & Glass Walks
It is most famous for the Shimenpass (Shimen Guan) Scenic Area, which perfectly embodies the "Mountain Slow Travel" philosophy by combining high-adrenaline engineering with serene natural beauty.
In November, Yangbi transforms into a crisp, high-visibility playground for hikers and thrill-seekers. As the rainy season concludes, the skies over the western slope of the Cangshan Mountains clear up, making it the perfect time to walk the famous glass planks without the summer mist.

The Gaoligong Mountain National Nature Reserve (高黎贡山国家级自然保护区) is a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve and a part of the Three Parallel Rivers World Heritage Site. Known as the "World Species Gene Bank," it is the most biodiverse region in China, home to over 5,000 plant species and 525 bird species.

The Maomaoqiu Fantasy Forest 毛毛球奇幻森林 (often referred to as the Fluffy Ball Forest) is a magical, moss-covered wilderness trail located on the western section of Gaoligong Mountain in Tengchong, Yunnan Province, China. It is highly acclaimed for its resemblance to the mystical, fairytale-like scenery often found in Hayao Miyazaki films.
It is famously called the "Fuzzy Ball Forest" or "Fluffy Ball Forest" because of its dense, hanging moss that clings to ancient trees, creating a scene reminiscent of The Lord of the Rings or Jurassic Park.

Gaoligong Mountain water source 黄龙潭
Huanglongtan (黄龙潭), located within the Gaoligong Mountain (高黎贡山) range in Baoshan, Yunnan, is a key high-mountain wetland and water source for the surrounding region.

Heshun (Héshùn Zhèn) 和顺古镇 is a historic town in Yunnan, famous for its beautifully preserved 600-year-old architecture and its status as a "Home of Overseas Chinese". It was once a vital stop on the Ancient Tea Horse Road 茶马古道 and the Southwest Silk Road 西南丝绸之路.

22 NOV 🔆 Arrival Day ► SIN 一 KMG, Kunming via Thai Air, 2 pm. Transfer to Kunming Old Street 昆明老街 for your first taste of Yunnan history & culture. It is the city's last remaining historic district, with over 900 years of history. It is a preserved cluster of Qing Dynasty architecture, narrow alleys, and traditional courtyards located in the heart of the city.

23 NOV 🔆 4-hour train to Boshan 保山, arrival ~ 1 pm. After lunch, take a short walk in a unique Coffee plantation experience: from a seed to your cup. Hands-on session.
Short walk to Gaoligong Mountain water source - Huanglongtan (黄龙潭), specifically known for its clear, cold alpine water.

26 NOV 🔆 A short 5 km hike along the river, past a waterfall, and through pristine forest to cleanse your lungs.

Over time, rain filled the mining pits, while minerals in the soil turned the water a striking, crystalline turquoise blue, surrounded by dramatic, rolling sand dunes that resemble a mini Sahara in the middle of a tropical island.

🔆 Summit Bintan Highest Peak: Gunung Bintan Besar
One of Bintan's hidden gems and oldest attractions, embark on a hiking adventure and be enthralled by nature's wonders.
A rewarding 2.6 km out-and-back trail through a protected tropical rainforest. Rising 336 metres above sea level, this trek offers a brief but physically challenging jungle workout. The entire experience takes 2 to 4 hours round-trip, depending on your fitness level, and offers a perfect nature escape from the nearby beach resorts.

• Difficulty: Moderate. The trail is short but features a steep, continuous climb.
• Terrain: Unpaved jungle floors with exposed tree roots, loose rocks, and muddy stretches. Fixed assist ropes are installed along the steepest sections to help you keep your balance.

🔆 Sunset Over The Mangroves
Cruising down the Sebong River during twilight is one of Bintan's most iconic natural experiences. As the day fades, the dense canopy of the mangrove roots transforms into a peaceful backdrop for the sunset. 6 days of winter fun and hiking on Korea's paradise island, but with the winter charm. Take an immersive trek through the island villages and seaside trail, the Olle Trails. We will adventure into the snow-covered trail of the Hallasan. We chose the scenic Yeongsil & Eorimok instead of going for the cloud-hidden peak.

⛰MT. HALLASAN: Snow hiking on Mt. Halla, Yeongsil (5.8km) to Eorimok (6.8km) Trails. These trails are mostly snow-covered during the winter, and stunning views make a truly magical winter wonderland.

🚵The Jeju Olle Trail is a 437km network of walking paths that circles Jeju Island in South Korea. Inspired by the Camino de Santiago in Spain, it was founded by former journalist Suh Myung-sook to encourage a slower, more immersive way to experience the island. The system includes 21 main, connected routes and 6 sub-routes (frequently called "dash" or branch routes).
The trail system is managed by the Jeju Olle Foundation and has gained international recognition, including a spot in the top 10 best coastal walks by Active Traveller.

We will be sampling 2 of the trails, #1 & #6.
🥾Olle Trail #1 is the first and a popular trail. It starts at the Siheung Elementary School and ends at the Seongsan Ilchulbong, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The walk passes through traditional villages, Buddhist temples, ancient tombs, rice fields, forests & beaches.

🥾Olle Trail #6 is known as the friendship trail of Zermatt 5-Lake Trail, Switzerland. It is flat and scenic and is well-suited for hikers of all fitness levels. It starts from the Soesokkak Bridge in Seogwipo and ends at Maeil Olle Market in the Seogwipo city centre. The well-marked trail leads you to some interesting tourist attraction sites, such as the Sojeongbang Waterfall and Jeongbang Waterfall, as well as some local cultural sites.

Day 2 🔆 16 DEC [B/L/D]
Olle Trail #1: Hike one section of the Olle Trail 1, which will take you onto and over Dusanbong, a volcanic cone. It is also called the Ai Oreum and the Molmi Oreum. From the Oreum's peak, you will get a panoramic view of Seongsan City and the farmland below as well as the iconic Seongsan Sunrise Peak (Seongsan Ilchulbong). The hike will terminate at the foot of the Oreum.

After lunch, follow up with the hike up Seongsan Sunrise Peak and a walk on the Bijarim Forest Path

Day 3 🔆 17 DEC [B/L/D]
Hallasan Eorimok - Yeongsil Trail ( 12.6km/est. 8hrs). The trail peak is the Witse-Oreum at 1700m on the western side of the Baengnokdam (Hallasan's highest peak).

Day 4 🔆 18 DEC [B/L/D]
Olle #6 trail (the friendship trail of Zermatt 5-Lake Trail, Switzerland). The 11.6 KM trail starts from the Soesokkak Info Centre, bringing you over the Jejigi Oreum, passing through the downtown Seogwipo & ending at Maeil Olle Market. Average hike time ~ 4+ hours.
After the trail hike, the group will be transferred to Tangerine Farm for fruit-picking experience, followed by a visit to Camellia Hill Estate.

Korean Ginseng Learning / O’sulloc Green Museum / Jeju Teseum Safari + DIY / Handam Coastal Rd & Aewol Café Street
