Lim Chu Kang and the surrounding North West Singapore area offer one of the most rural cycling experiences on the island, characterised by agricultural farms, lush greenery, colonial-era buildings, and quiet coastal stretches. The area is popular with road cyclists for morning training and those seeking a scenic escape from city traffic.
Key Information for Cyclists:
- Re-aligned Road: The new Lim Chu Kang Road is a dual-lane carriageway extending from Jalan Bahar to Old Choa Chu Kang Road, replacing the older stretch.
- Scenic Route: A popular, quiet route for cyclists passing many places that you rarely get to see, like: Features various vegetable and dairy farms for a "rural" Singapore experience, long stretches of roads, farms, & SG biggest cemetery for all ethic groups and races.
- Kranji Reservoir Park & Dam: A scenic spot to pause, popular for fishing, with views of the reservoir and nearby Kranji War Memorial.
General route plan:
Kranji War Memorial - Source of Pang Sua River - Choa Chu Kang Wy - Brickland Rd - Old Choa Chu Kang Rd - Nirvana Memorial Garden - new Lim Chu Kang Road - Sarimbun Scout Camp - Sarimbun Beach Landing - Kranji Dam - Reservoir - Kranji Station.
Who is Suitable?
• You must be very competent at cycling on the road with traffic
• You must have cycled for the last half to 1 year with a minimum of 40 km
• You must be able to comfortably achieve an average speed of 16 - 20 km/hr on a flat road.
Breakfast: It's important to start with breakfast. Bring money to buy snacks/coffee along our route. We roll off on time to get to a very special breakfast place.
Guest ok? Yes, but those wanting to bring friends: You're responsible for ensuring your guests follow our rules & safety. Please do NOT just bring friends w/o rsvp. It is your responsibility that your guests are competent riders & follow SANL rules throughout the event!
Strict Timing:
We aim to ride off by 7.30 am latest. So we get a quick coffee break after 15 km.
Consider these requirements below before you rsvp:
- You MUST be a competent road cyclist with your own bike - able to cycle confidently along with vehicles, as there will be some road sections & may not have sweepers to help around.
• No rental bikes, and it's not making it.
• If you are borrowing a bike from friends, make sure it's a higher-quality type. COMPULSORY to wear a helmet. *****************************
Must bring items 1.0 - 1.5 litres of water or isotonic drinks, sunblock, arm covers, rain gear, sun protection accessories, snacks/energy bars. $$$ Money for lunch. Please wear covered shoes (No sandals please !) It's good to wear long pants to prevent sunburn on your legs.
