Singing in a band setting is a fundamentally different experience than singing on a karaoke machine.
The instrumentalists - guitarists, keyboardist, drummer will have imperfections and do improvisations as per individual styles. Its a great experience to adjust the singing accordingly while generating a feel in the song.
The singer can also put in his/her own personality on the song and hopefully the instruments catch on.
Working together is way more important than simply vocal ability. So all levels of singers from hobbyists are encouraged to join in for the lively jamming sessions.
