Date Change!!! Veteran's Day Memorial Hike

Details
Important UPDATE: I did the hike to the monument today with Alan. The path is completely leaf-covered, steep, and there are a LOT of rocks under the leaves so you can't see where you are stepping and there is a very good chance of turning an ankle, or falling. I would LOVE people that I haven't hiked with to skip this hike. I will post pix so you can see what the trail looks like. With the rain expected today and tomorrow those leaves can be even more treacherous if slippery and they won't dry out inbetween. Just saying.......New people if you do join us you MUST have fall hiking experience with leaves and hidden rocks. The trail is not flat across, it has a dip in the middle so you can't judge that either.
***You must contact me to tell me your experience with wet leaves hiding rocks.***
Date change to Sunday due to the storm coming and wet trails. If you can't make it PLEASE change your RSVP.
In case anyone missed this: New policy for newbies...If you are a no-show you will be deleted from the group. Sorry, if you can't make it please change your RSVP. It just takes a minute. Thanks!!!
If you would like to be patriotic for Veteran's Day we have a hike for you. It is on the Fishkill Ridge and visits a very special place where a plane crashed 77 years ago. It is a moment and a place to remember our fallen heroes.
On the way up at about the 1000 feet above sea level mark we will encounter a plaque that denotes the spot where an airplane crashed 77 years prior on Veterans Day 1945. At that place six Navy veteran lost their lives in this airplane crash. Two of these veterans were in both World War I and World War II.
Our friend Alan is the guide for this. Although it is a short hike, Fishkill Ridge is a challenge so be advised. This hike starts from Sunnyside Road in Glenham (Beacon). Parking could be an issue if others are observing the day there, as they almost surely will, be prepared to move cars or perhaps carpool.
Depending on the group and the weather we can do the hike just to the crash site and back, or continue on for a 5.7 mile hike rated difficult. It is a total loop with a steep up in the beginning and a steep down at the end. My timing is just a guess, especially if we do the extended hike. I estimated for the extended hike.
I am fine with whoever signs up for the memorial part, I would prefer only experienced hikers with me for the rest of it if we do it. Getting to the crash site is not for beginning hikers and you must have hiking boots. We are doing the short hike rain or shine. Be prepared for wet.
Bring water. Dress in layers, bring heavy snacks or light lunch. Hiking boots mandatory.
No Meetup fee. Dogs welcome.
