STONE MOUNTAIN PARK SUNSET AND MOON RISE HIKE

Join me for my annual and very exciting evening hike up and down Stone Mt. RT is 2.5 miles. This year we're doing it on a Friday night. We need to start the climb up by 7:45pm to ensure that we are all comfortable to watch the sunset over the buildings of downtown Stone Mountain at 8:45pm.. Then we will watch the FULL Moonrise (from the east) at 9:24pm (It may not be fully dark yet). We will begin our trek down shortly after 9:45pm. Make sure you bring a flashlight and water. It will be dark on the descent. I typically like to do this on a Saturday evening....but the moon is not cooperating with me for the balance of 2014. Typically, this only occurs once a year on a Saturday night. Of course, it will be a full moon as well. Meet: At the bathrooms near Confederate Hall where we climb up by 7:30pm. . If you do not have a parking pass (annual $35 or daily $10) you can either park at Stone Mountain Elementary School, 6720 James B Rivers Drive, Stone Mountain or at the Marta Park Ride on 4th street I believe it is. I park at the school. If you want to meet me at the school and walk into the park with me you must get there before at 7:00pm. If you have a parking pass be considerate and meet up at the school and if we have enough passes we can car pool into the park.

Directions to Elementary School…there are many ways to get here…DO NOT FOLLOW the signs to Stone Mt Park or the East Gate. If you are taking 285-78 going east, take the Mountain Industrial Blvd exit 4 toward Tucker, Make a right onto Mt. Ind. Blvd. If you reach Stone Mt. Parkway you’ve gone too far. Turn left onto Ponce de Leon Avenue. Turn left onto James B Rivers Memorial Drive, Memorial Drive and pass Cemetery Circle. It is just past 4th street. Map quest, google, etc. from you point of origin.
