What we're about

What do we do?

Small World is your connection to Nagoya's exciting social scene.

Since 2018, our group has been creating meetups, social events, parties and gatherings to foster a strong and vibrant international community for both expats and Japanese alike.

Why do we do it?

After meeting people from all walks of life, we've found that everyone has their own passions and interests. In a foreign country, it can be hard to find others who share those interests. It can be difficult to make friends at all.

Small World's goal is to make that easier.

We aim to bring our community closer together, so that we can share our passions, learn about other cultures and make friends for life.

We are very proud to be a part of this community. We've met wonderful people and had unforgettable experiences, and we want to give something back, to make Nagoya into the most exciting city in Japan!

Why should you join?

Who are we?

Small World is our wonderful group of friends!

But the group was created by Matt (UK) and Amanda (Brazil) back in 2018.

"Hi guys! My name's Matt and I'm from the UK! I've been living here for about four years, and coming here was a dream come true. I'm an English teacher by day, but managing Small World is the true passion of my life. It's led me to meet so many wonderful people, my best friends and enjoy Japan more than I ever could have imagined. I really like reading, writing stories, and playing the bass guitar. Maybe you'll see my band Hot Mess at one of our events haha! Thank you guys, and I'm really looking forward to meeting you!"
- Matt

"Hello, hello! I'm Amanda and I'm from Brazil but I'm half Japanese. I've been living here for 11 years, and right now I'm a fashion student at Nagoya Mode Gakuen. In my free time I work part time and run Small World with Matt. I love meeting the people that come to our events and cycling around Nagoya, and trying all the interesting cafes and restaurants around the city. Life is better when you have good people around you, and thanks to Small World, I have the chance to meet the best people in town! See you soon!"

Sunday Pick Me Up ~ゴミ拾い~ [POSTPONED TO OCTOBER 17]

Sunday Pick Me Up is back! Last time, we walked around Sakae and collected over 66kg of trash in only ONE HOUR! This time, I hope we can do even better!

On Sunday October 17, we'll gather in Ikeda Park and clean the streets for an hour.

This is a great opportunity to keep our neighborhood clean, meet like-minded people, and simply have fun outside!

Needless to say, this event is completely FREE.

So please come join hang out, catch some fresh air and help us clean the city!

If you have gloves at home, it would be super helpful if you could bring them.

We've gotten into the habit of having a picnic in the park after the event - from 12:00 we'll be chilling in Hisaya Odori Park, so if you want to join us after the event, you're very welcome to 🙂

We will be meeting up at Ikeda Park at 10:00AM. Please see the address below.

The TV Tower of Terror

Hisaya Odori Park

It's October and it looks like pretty much everything else this year Halloween has too, been cancelled.

Well, Halloween is one of my favourite times of year, and I'm not gonna let it go quietly into the night. So thanks to the Hisaya Odori Park complex, we've got a HUGE outdoor area to fill with creepy ghosts, ghouls, goblins and whatever other nasty nonsense you can imagine.

So here's what I suggest. Throw on your best costume, hit the conbini, grab a six-pack, head down to Hisaya Odori Park and we can hang out in the fresh air and spook the locals. Muahahaha.

This event is 100% free. There ain't much planning I can do seeing as it's a public space, so it'll be fairly loose and the night will be whatever you decide to make of it. Come and go as you please.

Let's meet in the new grassy area immediately in front of the TV Tower at 19:00 on Saturday October 30th, and let's see where the night takes us ay.
