Designing The Experience For Data with Brighton of Nutanix

Details
Every product begins small, only to realize that they generate more data than the year before. Soon the sparse looking UI screens, tables, and forms become overwhelming to the user and the need to better experience these rising volumes of data emerges.
Designers often go on to explore ways to present these data in a more consumable/bite-sized form, and inevitably interesting (and hopefully functional) data visualizations begin to appear.
Soon, these visualizations proliferate only to realize that though they might be individually functional and effective, there is little that brings them together. Each equally deviating from the other in terms of visuals, interactions, and behaviors, only to leave the users ambiguous and forcing them to re-learn repeatedly and increasing engineering development costs.
“How do you facilitate a team of designers to create meaningful, effective, consistent, yet engaging data visualizations for a portfolio of multiple products?”
What happened to UI screens of the early 2010s with Design Systems, needs to happen with Visualizations of the early 2020s with a Visualization Design Systems.
The goal of designing a universal resource for dealing for designers and developers with data-dense scenarios was achieved with pragmatic specifications and components yet flexible guidelines to preserve the creative freedom required for designing successfully with data.
In the session, we will talk about the needs, the challenges and the process of “designing a design system” for visualizations.
