About us
This is important - You must read through the entire "About us..." text. You will be asked a question when you join that you must answer. If you don't answer the question correctly after two attempts you will not be able to join.
If your home city is not in Sarasota or Manatee Counties do not apply. If you answer Nothing, I don't know, I didn't see anything when you answer question 4, do not apply. These are automatic rejections.
I do not need a 2nd full time job. I manage this group as a Labor of Love. I don't charge dues. I handle New Member Requests once a week. Do not use alternate accounts thinking we didn't receive a request. All this will do is cause the 2nd account to be declined and banned from Membership.
Since I'm a web developer, I have automated most of the member processes. This includes approval of new members, removing members who haven't RSVP'd for a Meetup in more than 6 months, not living in Sarasota or Manatee Counties, and not answering the questions correctly.
This group is for women who are permanent residents of the Sarasota/Manatee County area to gather for Sunday brunch, weekend dinners and lunches. This is a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends, catch up with old friends, and build your social connections. Please make sure your Meetup Profile reflects a current, local address and your full first name.
We mostly visit restaurants on the upscale side that require a reservation and many of these now require a deposit. If you want a more casual group that doesn't go to as many upscale restaurants, check out one of these groups:
- Sarasota Foodies and More Organized by Jeanne
- Ladies Having Fun 50+ Organized by Sylvia
- The Girlfriend's Club Organized by Nora
And if you're into finding the perfect wine & food pairing, check out Sarasota Wine and Fun! Organized by Dawna & Annie
Our Meetups are limited to at most, 8 members. In many cases they are limited to 6 members. Due to the limited nature of our Meetups we rarely allow guests.
Each New Member has a probationary status with this group. It is based on several factors, how quickly you RSVP for Meetups, how likely you are to attend our Meetups, how frequently you attend our Meetups, how close to a Meetup you change your RSVP to "Not Going", how often you change an RSVP to "Not Going", in other words, how reliable and consistent you are as a member. Please don't be upset if you remain on a Wait List and do not move even if you were the first to RSVP. This is not a First RSVP, First Attending Meetup Group.
We are hearing that a lot of women are unable to attend our Meetups as they are filling up quickly. Too many RSVP only to remove themselves from the Meetup. If you are someone who is using this group as a Backup Plan in case something better comes along, or constantly RSVP Yes then changing your RSVP to Not Going, you will most likely stay on probation for a long time or be removed from the group. **Your meetup experiences may be more enjoyable with groups such as Nick's group Sarasota Over 50 Meetup Group or one of the others listed above.
Do NOT post comments about not attending and why! The group is Public and anyone and everyone can read the comments. If you are going away, have a great time. But don't leave a Public Comment telling the world that you are not going to be home for a week. Do NOT post your last name in your profile. This is an automatic rejection. There are too many ways for someone to track you home after a Meetup.
Meetup is an online Social Media Platform. While not like Facebook or Instagram it is an electronic, software based platform; bugs, quirks and all. We use it as intended.
We understand that many do not want to use a computer for any number of reasons. You need to understand and know how to read emails, respond to emails, mark emails safe for reading, read and respond to notifications from Meetup and understand how RSVP's work. The last thing you want to do is tell an organizer you don't want to use a computer, or you don't know how to use a computer. This does not negate your responsibilities to this group. We do not personally phone, text or email anyone informing you that we have received your RSVP, if you are on the wait list, or if you moved from the wait list to the attending list. We don't send out personal reminders if you are on an RSVP list, or personally communicate with you in any way. We pay to use the Meetup software and it does all this for us.
Limited Participation - What does it mean?
Some of our Meetups have a limited number of people attending. This is due to several factors.
To be quite honest, many restaurants are tired of reserving tables and people do not show up. It doesn't matter if it's one person or a dozen. Many venues belong to private social media groups where they exchange information about groups & reservations with a high number of No Shows and many of these groups are Meetup groups. To combat this they are limiting the number of people that we are able to reserve a table for and in many cases they now want a credit card to hold the reservation. Many have a 48 hour cancellation policy. If we have no shows the charges can range from $20 to the average entree price for each no show. This is completely unfair to our organizers as we have to provide our credit card for the reservation.
DO NOT tell the venue you are with a Meetup group. The reservation will be in the name of the Host.
There are several restaurants that no longer allow any Meetup Groups in their establishment due to way too many no shows. Yes, we combat this by not mentioning we are a Meetup Group. But we still can only reserve a table for a maximum of 6 people using Resy, Toast or Open Table. In some cases, our organizers have been prohibited from making reservations at specific establishments. Yes, they can and do track this.
Limited Participation - How it works?
To reduce the attendance issues, some of our Meetups have Limited Participation. This is as much objective as it is subjective and is based on the amount of time you have been in the group (a MINIMUM of 120 DAYS) and your RSVP history for prior Meetups.
Anyone who RSVP's will automatically go on the Wait List and the organizers will move people to the Going List. You will know this if you end up on the Wait List regardless of when you RSVP or how many others are shown as Attending/Going.
It is not fair to our members who show up nearly every weekend and someone else who we haven't seen for months or more wants to attend a Meetup and complains they were the first to RSVP, why aren't they attending. We're sorry but this isn't a first RSVP first to attend Meetup group. You must have a demonstrable record of of consistently attending our Meetups. If join us every few months you will not be able to attend some of our Meetups.
Your RSVP history is maintained by Meetup from the first time you joined the group. Even if you dropped out of the group and came back years later, we can still see your history back to when you first joined. Those with a high number of RSVPs and then changing their RSVP to Not Going will not be allowed to participate in a Limited Participation Meetup. You must maintain a 55% attendance rate in order to attend a Limited Participation Meetup. The closer you cancel a reservation to the date of a Meetup, the more likely you won't be able to join us at a Limited Participation meetup.
No Shows as they are identified by the Meetup software and are an ongoing issue. Yes, life happens. But we can't allow a continuous pattern of Cancellations or No Shows by members. It isn't fair to the members on the Wait List, the Organizers, the venues we use, or the Group. Anyone who demonstrates a pattern of Cancellations or No Shows as defined below will be removed from the group without notice. We reserve the right to not allow certain Members who have demonstrated a prior pattern of No Shows or constantly changing their RSVP *Disney Princesses, Belle and Ariel* to Not Going to attend our Meetups.
This is our No Show Policy:
A “No Show” is defined as someone who doesn’t contact the host of the Meetup by a Private Message and/or:
- Cancels their RSVP within 96 hours (4 days) of a Meetup and/or,
- Someone who is on the Going List and doesn’t attend the Meetup and/or,
- Someone who is on the Wait List, moves to the Going List within 48 hours of a Meetup and doesn’t attend the Meetup.
If you signed up for a Meetup, even if you went on the Wait List and are moved to the Going list, and don’t attend the Meetup, forget about the Meetup after you committed to attending the Meetup, don’t respond to emails asking if you plan on attending or don’t confirm your participation, you can be marked as a “No Show”. This is the Policy for “No Shows”.
- Anyone who is a “No Show” one (1) time, you will be removed from the group without notice.
- In addition, if you continually and/or consistently demonstrate that you RSVP for Meetups and cancel within 2 weeks of those Meetup you will be removed from the group without notice.

Girls Weekend at Disneyworld - January 28 to Feb 1 2027
Disney's Pop Century Resort, 1050 Century Dr, Lake Buena Vista, FL 32830, USA, Lake Buena Vista, FL, USGirls Weekend at Disneyworld - January 28 to Feb 1 2027!
This is rather long. If you are considering attending this Meetup please read all of this.
I have done several trips like this in recent years and every trip had some confusion and some issues. Hopefully this will clear up all or at least most of them.
Discounts dropped yesterday for Winter & Spring 2027.
On this trip we will be going to EPCOT on Saturday. On Sunday we will, at your option, go to The Magic Kingdom. If you want to return home on Sunday that’s fine. Just reserve 2 hotel nights rather than 3 and purchase only a 1 day ticket to EPCOT for Saturday. EPCOT will be hosting the Festival of the Arts.
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/epcot/epcot-international-festival-of-the-arts/
In EPCOT we will be taking an EPCOT tour titled Behind the Seeds. It costs $39 and must be pre-paid.
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/events-tours/epcot/behind-the-seeds/
This walking tour is a one-hour tour of the fish farm and 4 greenhouses that make up The Land Pavilion and is perfect for anyone with an interest in gardening or natural sciences. You learn about the hybrid striped bass, tilapia, catfish and freshwater shrimp in their fish farm, see the gigantic fruits and vegetables and unusual crops from around the world and discover the latest plant-growing techniques, including hydroponics—look, Ma, no soil! The tour is handicap accessible so you can stay on a scooter, third party is preferred, the Disney rentals are kind of large for the tour.
We will be staying at Disney’s Pop Century Resort.
https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/pop-century-resort/
If you wish to stay at another resort you’re free to do so. The process is the same.
Disney transportation has changed a lot in recent months.
Transportation Notes:- You must drive yourself to Disneyworld or car pool with someone who is going.
- You can only park at a resort if you have a confirmed reservation at that resort for either a room reservation, an experience (like horseback riding) or table service dining (not mobile ordering).
- Disney bus transportation does NOT travel between resorts except in very limited situations and it is not guaranteed at any time or on any day. If you stay at another resort you will NOT be able to drive and park at Disney's Pop Century Resort and meet with anyone staying there. The guard will not let you through the gate. You would need to take a Disney bus to a theme park and change to a Pop Century bus.
- Parking is free at theme parks only for Annual Passholders and Resort Guests. Bus and Boat transportation at Disney Springs is only for guests with a confirmed reservation for either a room reservation, an experience (like horseback riding) or table service dining (not mobile ordering).
If you decide to attend, you must:
- RSVP to this Meetup
- Download the latest version of the My Disney Experience app.
- Create your My Disney Experience account if you have not created it in the past either with the mobile app or on the web at Disneyworld.com (click My Plans on the top right) no later than 11/25/2026 and share the account with me. If you have shared it with me in the past I have deleted it. I do not see your billing information, only your park and experience plans. Let me know when you share with me so I can complete the process. It is easier to do everything on a computer rather than with the mobile app.
- Reserve your room no later than 11/15/2026.
- Do not book a package. There isn't a better rate if you do but you have a much shorter window to cancel your reservation and it's harder to get a refund with a package.
- You must pay for one night when you make your reservation. The balance is due on your check in day but you may pay your balance due at any time. For any balance due Disney will charge the credit card used when you made your reservation early in the morning (around 1 am) of your check in date plus $100 for incidentals.
- Make sure you are logged in to My Disney Experience when you purchase your theme park ticket(s). Purchase your ticket to the theme park(s). One day or two, it doesn’t matter, but you need at least one day. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/admission/tickets/ Be sure you purchase the correct park on the correct day. EPCOT on Saturday January 30, 2027 and optionally, Magic Kingdom on Sunday Feb. 1, 2027. Again, if you don’t want to go to Magic Kingdom on Sunday, that’s fine - don’t buy the ticket for Sunday.
Disney tickets are not refundable.
Meetup RSVPs will not close for this Meetup. However, I have to make dining reservations 60 days from the date of our arrival and you run the risk of not being included in our dining plans if you decide on January 15th you want to attend. You will be marked as Not Going if I don't see your room booked in My Disney Experience by 11/28/2026.
Below is the itinerary I put together. If you don’t want to join us for everything and go off on your own, just let me know. You can bring as many guests as you like, male or female. If you bring a guest you must include their name on your reservation. They do not need to create a separate Disney account.
We will not visit Hollywood Studios or Disney's Animal Kingdom. If you would rather visit a Theme Park other than The Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, please feel free to do so. If you want to visit a different Theme Park other than the park we are in that day but still want to join us for dinner and see the Fireworks, you will need to purchase a park hopper option with your ticket.
We will have the following meals together:- Friday Dinner at The Polynesian Resort at Kona Café. https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/dining/polynesian-resort/kona-cafe/
- We will try to stop by Trader Sams lounge at The Polynesian after dinner. Disney has taken the back story from the old long gone Adventurers Club in Downtown Disney and woven its intricate storyline into all parks and resorts around the world. You can find mentions of S.E.A. (The Society of Explorers and Adventurers) in the Magic Kingdom in The Jungle Cruise and in The Jungle Navigation Company and at Trader Sam’s at The Polynesian Resort. Venture in to this tranquil hideaway for an enchanting evening packed with fantastic fun and delightful surprises. Explore the whimsically themed lounge - festooned with ancient artifacts and exotic treasures.
- In EPCOT I expect us to eat from some of the food booths in the Festival of the Arts for lunch.
- Saturday Dinner in EPCOT - Tepan Edo in Japan.
Sunday Dinner at Magic Kingdom - Jungle Navigation Company
All dining locations at Disney have Plant based and allergy friendly items.
There IS a method in my scheduling. We use mostly buses around Disney property. There aren’t any buses between Disney resorts; you need to go to a theme park and change to another bus.
To paraphrase Walt Disney, he said nothing will ever be done; there’s always room to grow and change. And Disney has changed. Don’t think an exhibit, attraction, show or restaurant is still there, still doing the same show or serving exactly the same food. It most likely is not and has not for years.
I strongly suggest anyone who may want to attend this Meetup visit http://Disneyworld.com and read about The Magic Kingdom and EPCOT before they RSVP. I also suggest this Disney website, Plan Disney.
Please keep in mind that I am not a tour guide and not everyone wants to do something one of us likes. Don't expect us to behave like a grammar school field trip, everyone walking single file, doing the same thing at the same time. If you want to do something in particular, you’re free to do so. That’s fine.
I still use my mobility scooter at Disney.
Regarding transportation... I am staying with my DVC points at either The Polynesian or Saratoga Springs. I will not be on the same transportation as anyone else. Note that there are times when regardless of a scooter you must wait in line with everyone else.
If you decide to attend, I can explain how to book your resort and purchase your park tickets. Do not think “Oh, I’ve done this before” and go off on your own. The process has changed and the Disneyworld website has changed, even within the past 6 months. Disney is known to change room types and rates at any time. If they change I will text you and let you know so you can call Disney and change your reservation if it's available at a lower price and it’s possible to change it.
You will be booking directly through Disney. Even preferred travel agents do not get “better” pricing. You will need to pay for one night and the balance is due when you check in. You can pay earlier if you like; just call Disney reservations. Do not purchase a theme park ticket with your room! If you do this it will be considered a "package" and you will have to pay your balance 60 days prior to the trip. With just a room reservation you can normally pay your balance due upon arrival and you can cancel 7 days prior to arrival and still get a full refund. Make sure to ask the reservation cast member what the cancellation policy is when you reserve your room.
I have seen people pay hundreds of dollars more for their rooms or purchase add on items that are extremely expensive and they didn't have time to use because they didn't follow the instructions.
DO NOT BOOK THROUGH A THIRD PARTY. You will not be able to do anything with your reservation online with the My Disney Experience app. You will know it's a third party if you book your reservation through any website other than https://disneyworld.com or https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/ If you book through a third party you will be on your own for the entire weekend.
When your room is ready you will receive a mobile notification and an email with instructions to go to My Disney Experience for your room assignment. Your phone will be your room key. If you have an older Disney Magic Band or a newer Magic Band+ that is also your room key. You can also get a hard key card at the front desk if you prefer.
You need a mobile device at Disney to use My Disney Experience. Make sure your phone is charged before you leave home. If you have a charger in your car, charge it on your way to Disney. The last thing you want is for your phone to die during the day and you can't get your room number from your phone or you can’t use your phone as your room key. I strongly suggest you get a Fuel Rod or similar type of charging battery from Amazon and charge it before you leave home. https://a.co/d/01dvyzAp
Itinerary
Because we are on a tight schedule we do not wait for any stragglers. Plan at least an hour to travel between your hotel and the theme parks. The Disney Skyliner will be down for refurbishment until January 30, 2027 and will not be available.
