Walk to the Cunning Man pub and back.

Details

Join me for a walk in nature. This will be an approximate 7.5 mile round trip between Reading and the Cunning man pub at Burghfield Bridge. There will be an option to drop out at the Cunning man pub where there is a bus stop for routes 2 and 2A.

We will follow the route of the Kennet and Avon canal via Fobney Island nature reserve along the towpath which is generally flat and well-maintained. There should be opportunities to spot local wildlife, particularly birds, but also the possibility of an otter.

This walk will start at 12:30 (please arrive by 12:20) from Riverside House, Fobney Road off Bridge Street opposite the Oracle shopping Centre and Riverside car park, Reading, RG1 6BH (what3words hurt.dive.avoid). The pace will be moderate.

If you intend to leave the walk at the Cunning Man, please make sure you have checked the bus timetable and any relevant service updates as the walk leader will be returning to Reading again via the canal towpath.

Please note, we are not professional or qualified guides. You accept all responsibility for your own safety and well being on this walk.

You might get thirsty - bring a drink, you might get hungry - bring a snack, you might get cold - bring a jumper, you might get sunshine on your skin - bring sun cream etc etc.

NOTICE of RISKS:
Walking is exercise, please make sure you are fit enough to walk
Do not attend this walk if you are not fit enough or if you have a medical condition that may impact upon your capability of completing the walk.
At some points the tow path has become narrowed so take care near the water’s edge.
Please dress appropriately for all weather and terrain conditions.
Wear good sturdy shoes, preferably with ankle support, and carry a bottle of water and necessary medication.
This walk encompasses countryside and environments where all the usual risks of injury during such walks apply, such as but not limited to: interactions with road traffic, joggers, cyclists, e-scooters, other members of the public, animals, plants (allergic reactions), uneven surfaces, including protruding tree roots and potholes and there may be low overhanging branches.
Some tracks may be muddy and slippery, and conditions may be wet if it has been or is raining.
The walk leader is not and does not purport to be a professional guide, or a medical professional, but is instead a like minded individual who also enjoys walking.

Do not attend this walk unless you accept and consent to the above risks. If you require insurance for this walk then you must arrange it yourself.
