A walk through the Finchampstead Ridges and Blackwater Valley

Details

Join us for a walk in nature. This will be an approximate 7.5 mile round trip from Crowthorne railway station.

We will walk through Simon’s wood towards the Finchamstead ridges, from where we’ll make our way down to Moor Green lakes. Our path will then take us along a small section of the Blackwater Valley river to Horseshoe lake, where there are toilets and the option of a cafe. The final stretch takes us back up towards the station as we skirt the edge of Ambarrow court woods. There should be opportunities to spot local wildlife, particularly birds, butterflies, damselflies and dragonflies. The pace will be moderate.

This walk will start at 1pm from Crowthorne Railway Station (carpark next to Platform 2). Please arrive at 12.50. The cost is £2.50 per day (cashless parking APCOA connect). If you prefer, there is a free carpark in Simon’s wood and options to join the walk from there or walk to the start (contact me for more info). The train from Reading should arrive at 12.38, but please check the timetable and any service updates before travelling. There are a small number of cafés nearby on Dukes Ride, if anybody requires refreshments.

Please note, we are not professional or qualified guides. You accept all responsibility for your own safety and wellbeing on this walk.

You might get thirsty - bring a drink, you might get hungry - bring a snack, you might get cold - bring a jumper, you might get sunshine on your skin - bring sun cream, you might get wet - bring a rain coat, etc etc.
