HHHH in Lake Calavera Preserve in North San Diego County

ABOUT THE HIKE: Happy Humpday Hooky Hike in Lake Calavera Preserve via Oak Riparian Park. This is a four mile loop hike with over 500 feet of elevation gain to Mount Calavera and Calavera Lake. The route to the mountain top is steep and rocky, making this a strenuous hike, with hiking poles suggested. The hike features a variety of flora and fauna and beautiful mountain, lake and creek viewscapes. The preserve is unique with its extinct 15 million year old volcano, the lake dam that dates back to WW II, and multiple stone labyrinths still being created by playful human hands. The hike is leached dog friendly.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: We meetup at Oak Riparian Park located at 4625 Lake Blvd, Oceanside, CA 92056. From O.C., take Interstate 5 south.... Hwy. 78 east about three miles.... exit on Emerald/Sunset heading south... turn left on Lake Blvd to the park. Limited parking, restrooms and picnic tables are available in the park.
