What we’re about
Tech Built World is the world’s FIRST construction tech meetup and is aimed at highlighting ConTech’s potential, human-centricity and how leveraging technology can create impact beyond the built world.
Unlike other tech meetups, we have a keynote speaker setting the tone before the real event begins and all attendees add THEIR perspective during a second half of round workshop-style discussion. This approach ensures informed dialogue across specialties and experience levels, essential for digital product success.
Despite being globally large and profitable, the construction industry's slow tech adoption opens disruption opportunities. We explore this complex problem space, from individual behaviors to systems involving thousands, and address the challenges that construction tech can assist - from small home developments to mega projects like HS2.
We see construction as the most human-centric problem space deserving more attention in ConTech.
Join us in building the future, a Tech Built World.
Who is this event for?
Tech Built World is a community of product people (Founders, Product Managers, UX/UI, Innovation Leads, Developers etc) passionate about construction tech and looking to accelerate change, not just through tech implementation, but by reflecting on past lessons and envisioning the future by learning from each other and outside perspectives.
So if you’ve never heard of ConTech, rest assured you’re very welcome - event facilitator and host Paul Woodley is a curious outsider too, having worked in a number of industries as a user-researcher and product designer (including construction) but currently finding himself in FinTech.

--- THE THEME - CONTECH IS... PHYSICAL? ---
Marc Andreessen, a renowned Silicon Valley engineer and venture capitalist, famously declared in 2011, "software is eating the world." However, in the predominantly physical construction industry, have software-only solutions gone hungry? In an industry where software-only solutions have dominated for nearly four decades, yet productivity has declined during that period, should we question the effectiveness of software-only approaches? With a surge of Internet of Things (IoT) and hardware solutions entering the market, could the future of construction technology products be physical?
Join us as we delve into a discussion about handling the interface between physical and digital in Contech. Emidio Piermarini, Construction Technology Lead at Converge, will lead us in exploring how AEC has traditionally approached tech in a software-only fashion, something that inherently limits the impact of technology on a physical industry, such as construction.
Emidio will pose the question - are we too reliant on software that only takes manual input? Can we can ever expect software-only tools to make transformative impact? Can physical products take Contech to the next level?
