What we're about

TransGender San Francisco, TGSF.org (http://TGSF.org/) , is a support and social group for the San Francisco Bay Area transgender and gender-non-conforming/gender-variant community.

Please send email directly to outreach@tgsf.org because messages via Meetup are not checked often, and sometimes, frankly, get completely lost.

Group Guidelines

WELCOME: All are welcome, wherever they may be along the transgender spectrum.

RESPECT: Respect everyone in the group, even when they express opinions or reflect thoughts or feelings with which you do not agree. It’s not okay to attack others, nor tell them what you think they should say or do; however, everyone has the right to disagree respectfully when it is their turn to speak.

ACTIVE LISTENING: Listen when people are talking; do not interrupt and avoid side conversations. Remember that you would want the same respect from others when you are talking.

USE “I” STATEMENTS: Speak from your own experiences; don’t make generalizations nor attempt to speak for others or attempt to interpret what you think they are saying without their permission.

CONFIDENTIALITY: What is said here needs to stay here. Be conscious of confidentiality when greeting other group members in public. Find out in advance if someone is open to being greeted outside of the group.

RESPECT PERSONAL SPACE: Be aware of others’ physical and emotional boundaries. Some feel comfortable with physical and emotional closeness, while others need more space.

RIGHT TO SPEAK OR TO PASS: Sharing is encouraged, but so is respect for each other’s right to be silent. Remember to make as much room as possible for all who wish to speak by not monopolizing the conversation.

WE ARE ALL RESPONSIBLE FOR OUR GROUP: Facilitators and group members are empowered to maintain the group guidelines, so let’s do the best we can to create a friendly and supportive group environment.

2023 TDoV (Trans Day of Visibility)

SOMArts

Hello everyone,

This is March, so our usual End of Month meeting will be us going to Trangender Day of Visibility (TDoV)!

I want to send you to http://TDoV.org/ for all the details... but the website has not been updated for this year's event yet. So, here is all i know, so far:

-=-=-
The TDOV Planning Committee 2023 is hosting its citywide celebration of Transgender Day of Visibility 2023 in the City of San Francisco.

This annual awareness day is celebrated around the world. The day is dedicated to celebrating the accomplishments of transgender and gender nonconforming people while raising awareness of the work that still needs to be done to achieve trans justice.

The event will be held at the iconic SOMARTS Gallery, 934 Brannan Street, San Francisco and will go from 5:45pm till 10:00pm. We will be honoring community members and organizations who have worked, supported, and provided allyship to better the lives of transgender people.

Plus we will feature amazing trans and gender non-conforming folks to entertain us! The event is free and there will be food, wine and signature cocktails, and non-alcoholic pleasures for guests. (Please prepare to show proof of age.)

Walk the red carpet, pose for the camera and revel to the beauty and joy of our trans and GNC community!

TDOV 2023 is hosted by Trans Thrive, ParivarBayArea, The SF LGBT Center, Rosen Creative Design, San Francisco Transgender Empowerment Advocacy Mentorship Program(SF TEAM), San Francisco AIDS Foundation, National Center for Lesbian Rights(NCLR), Fresh Meat Productions, San Francisco Transgender Film Festival, Crane Center, Bridge HIV. More organizations will be added soon.

More details to come as we get close to the event.

I recommend getting there (and getting on line) a half hour before starting time. There will probably be a large crowd.

I hope to see you there!
