CFAA May Film Forum: 'The Filmmaking Series'

## Month by month, the CFAA will guide attendees in learning the step-by-step process of making a short film. Every month will bring us closer and closer to the actual production of this, and the script has been selected, so come and find out more on every 3rd Tuesday! The best talent in the production industry will be here to inform and aid the CFAA team to help YOU to make a movie!!

## TOPIC: Callbacks (May 12th) & Casting (May 19th) of 'Decline'

## Join us for the next installment of our Step-by-Step Filmmaking Series! Having already selected our script and scouted locations, we are now moving into the critical pre-production phase: translating the vision into a technical plan and building the team to execute it. This month, we dive deep into:

Callbacks and Casting:
A Callbacks and Casting Session is the pivotal phase where a film moves from "theoretical" to "tangible" by selecting the face and voice of the story. Within the CFAA Step-by-Step series, this is where the director and producers narrow down dozens of applicants to the final cast.

### The Casting Session (May 12th)

This is often a "getting to know you" phase where the focus is on raw capability:

• Sides: Actors perform short, prepared excerpts from the script.
• The Slate: Actors state their name and agency on camera to check their presence and "look" for the role.
• Technical Fit: The team assesses if the actor’s natural energy aligns with the character's core personality.

### The Callback (The Finalists) May 19th

Actors who impressed in the first round are invited back for a Callback. This is much more intensive and focuses on versatility and collaboration:
