⛅️Longshaw 9 miles Heather Walk🌸Carl Wark🌸Higger Tor🌸Burbage Rocks⛅️

Details

This a scenic varied walk through woodland, streams and along rocky edges and peaks.
Hopefully we'll see an abundance of beautiful purple heather..🪻🪻
The walk starts at the Fox House Inn and goes onto the Longshaw Estate, a beautiful area of ancient woods beautiful heather moorland and parkland.
After a walk through the scenic parkland, our route crosses the stream at Padley Gorge where it's the perfect opportunity to get those water photos. Our path follows the stream through woodland where our route continues along a scenic track below Burbage Rocks.
This track takes us to a path below Higger Tor and its neighbouring Carl Wark.
Higger Tor, a gritstone rocky peak, is 434 metres at its highest point. Before we ascend the rocky peaks of Higger Tor, the route beckons us to 'Carl Wark'. After a short steepish rocky climb, we emerge onto the rocky plateau of Carl Wark.
It was once an Iron Age Hillfort, the remains of 'Carl Wark' is a wall 3 metres high and about 40 metres long, it is surrounded by Prehistoric remains and Burial Cairns.
After some exploration, we continue onwards to climb rocky steps to the peak of Higger Tor. Some scrambling among the rocks is needed near the top, but the beautiful views are well worth the climb.

Our chosen route descends the Fiddler's Elbow path down to Burbage Bridge, first crossing the stream and then joining the route up onto Burbage Edge, a gritstone escarpment 2 miles long with far reaching views wherever you turn.
Coming off Burbage Edge our route joins a grassy path back to our car park where we started our walk.

Moderately challenging with a couple of rocky steepish ascents and descents, rough tracks, edges and peaks, combined with some easy walking through the Longshaw Estate

Catching up points and plenty of breaks and stops along the way as always

Bring a picnic lunch, enough snacks and water to keep you going

Walking boots are essential, a walking pole helps on descents
As always check the weather and dress accordingly!

Doggies are always welcome 🐕🦮🐕

Toilets near the start at Longshore

Looking forward to sharing another adventure with you..⛰️🚶‍♂️🚶‍♀️👨‍🦯👩‍🦯🐕🦮
