⛅️Longshore 10 miles🍂White Edge🍂Froggatt🍂Haywood🍂Yarncliffe⛅️

This is a scenic varied walk through woodland, moorland, and along rocky edges and streams.
The walk starts at the Fox House Inn and goes onto the Longshaw Estate, a beautiful area of ancient woodland.
Our path goes onto Wooden Pole Moor, there's a tall Wooden Pole which is said to stand on the site of an Ancient Pole.
It's periodically replaced by the National Trust, the original pole is believed to have served as a way marker/guide post on an old packhorse route and may also have marked the boundary between the villages of Hathersage and Holmesfield. Whatever its original purpose, it stands tall beside the A6187, yet many visitors to the area drive past without even noticing it.
Its status as a landmark gives the whole area of countryside surrounding it, the name 'Wooden Pole'.
After our exploration, our route leaves Longshore to join White Edge, a wild rocky escarpment, with expansive moorland on one side and distant woodland on the other side.
Sometimes red deer can be seen in the distance, they are often spotted running across the path, in rutting season the sound of stags can be heard for miles.

As we come off White Edge, our route heads down and up to join Curbar Edge, fascinating rock formations are seen all along this rocky edge.
Curbar Edge soon becomes Froggatt Edge, leaving it, we cross a rocky stream and go through the beautiful woodland of Haywood Yarncliffe and Granby woods.

Emerging at Burbage Brook, after first stopping at the ice-cream van,🍦we follow this enchanting brook which takes us back to the Foxhouse Inn Carpark where we started.

Bring a picnic lunch, snacks and enough water to keep you going, lunch time is always weather dependent

Walking boots are advised, as well as an extra layer for breaks, as always check the weather and dress accordingly
