The Supermarket Champagne Challenge Tasting at Christos' House

Details

Supermarket own-label brands offer champagnes at a more affordable price point compared to established "Grande Marque" houses. And in blind taste tests supermarket champagnes have sometimes outperformed well-known brands, demonstrating that quality isn't always directly tied to the price. So do supermarket champagnes offer real quality or are they just 'cheap and cheerful'? Here's your chance to find out!

We will start with a couple of bottles of Asda Cremant de Bourgogne (made from the same grapes as champagne) as a welcome drink. Then we will taste these supermarket own-label champagnes:

4 different Brut Non-Vintage from Waitrose, Tesco, Sainsburys and Coop
2 different Blanc de Noirs from Waitrose and Sainsburys
2 different Rose from Tesco and Morrisons

Numbers will be limited to 12 people seated round one table, so almost a bottle of fine wine per person. During the tasting a selection of fine cheeses, pates, and other food will be served.

WAITLIST: If the event is fully booked and you would like to join the ‘waitlist’, post a comment to let me know

REFUNDS: The 'ticket price' for this event is £37.50 including £2.50 for paypal/meetup fees. If you cancel by Tuesday 8th July latest AND there is someone on the waitlist who pays for your place you will get a refund of £35.

Please note that Meetup charge an additional fee to attendees on top of the price which the Organiser sets. This fee is paid direct to Meetup and is beyond our control.

Cheers,
Christos
