I’ve seen the based on a true story” too many times so forgive me if I am now a bit sceptical. They say sometimes that we forget the individuals behind the story, but how would I know if they made it up or not? What reason do I have to leave them? Hollywood has surely made an effort to make things look so unbelievable that there's really nothing to be afraid of. Having said that, there are some directors that can still get the right balance. Granted I haven't seen this film in a while, but I remember it being plausible if I believed those kinds of things. I know that sounds contrarian for a horror fan like myself, but don't worry there are other chilling things I’m inclined to believe in, but that's a story for another time.
To summarise ten years ago director James Wan introduced this movie that later became one of the biggest franchises in modern history. It welcomes the true-life paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren who help a family that is terrorized by dark demonic forces. The story is based on the alleged true story which happened back in 1970 in a remote farmhouse in Rhode Island.
I’m not being funny but I also come from a small remote part of the world town and let me tell you people were and still are very superstitious. But whether you are inclined to believe in these sorts of things is also up for debate over a chilled pint this weekend at Frightfest
