What we're about

Welcome to The Ohio River Rat Society. If you decide to join this meetup, you're not only joining a group, but yet a family of kayakers/rats all with one focus in mind; and that's having fun. From the first paddle you'll feel like you've been with this group for years; as we are the most nonjudgmental group of misfits you'll ever grow to love!

This is a group for anyone interested in kayaking central Ohio and surrounding areas. The trips will provide opportunities for paddlers of all skills levels to get their "paddle on"; from passive river and lake trips to adventurous whitewater excursions. Please do not let the name deter you as we offer trips for all ages and skill levels as stated. With the exception of a few higher classed rivers, all the rivers we paddle can be enjoyed by even beginner paddlers. If you have a special need just let us know and we'll see what we can do to accommodate your request.

In addition, we enjoy group gatherings at our homes, around campfires, a local pub or even a popular movie. In other words, we enjoy multiple activities as a "family of rats"

Bottom line is this. If you are looking to have a summer of fun and excitement on the water, exploring new things and in different areas, be yourself and act like a kid again; then you need to join the River Rats.

We look forward to seeing you on the river.

Memorial Day Weekend Family Camp and Paddle - Kids and Puppies Welcome!

Hey gang,

This will be our first Annual Family camp and paddle. Therefore kids and pooches will be welcomed to join us at the creek for a special overnight and paddle.

For the sake of safety children must be at least 6-years and be able to carry their own kayaks (just kidding about the kayaks).

If you've never been to the creek this is the most kid friendly environment with tons of things for them to explore, including fishing, hiking kayaking and of course camping

I'll post more details on this weekend once I confirm a few things, but if interested sign up as I'm going to limit the number of participants to 30.

Weather permitting we'll leave the campgrounds around 1pm and head to the put in. They do have canoes and other rentals should you need them.

Note: Make sure you're at Raccoon Creek no later that 11:30 so you can set up camp and get ready for the paddle. If you want breakfast be there no later than 9am. Well worth coming in early

Since I do not expect you to pay $5 each night for wood for the kids, it will only be $5 per adult each night.

Camping is $7 per night per person paid directly to the outfitters

Also, shuttle prices are the same for kids as adults, so if you're going to paddle it will be $18 per person regardless of age.

Note: You must provide your own fishing equipment. If you do not have any, the gear shop has plenty for you to review and purchase.
