What we’re about
Welcome to the Thoughtful Conversations Meetup!
This member-led group brings together individuals who enjoy deep, engaging discussions on a wide range of topics—from philosophy and psychology to current events.
We’re a community of curious minds who value respectful dialogue and meaningful exchange. Our meetups offer a space for thought-provoking conversations and genuine connections with others who share a passion for exploring ideas.
A typical gathering centers around a book, article, or video by an expert on a compelling topic. Members are encouraged to read or watch the material in advance so we can dive into a rich discussion together. Our goal is to deepen understanding, consider the topic’s real-world relevance, and, when fitting, thoughtfully critique the expert’s perspective.

See all- The Illusion of Free WillLink visible for attendees
The duration is approximate but won't exceed 1.5 hours. If you'd like to discuss further, I'll set up a follow-up meeting.
Topic: The case against free will and its implications for our personal lives and all of society.
Source material: Free Will by Sam Harris (published March 6, 2012), 96 pages long, $10.40 at Amazon. Feel free to choose paperback, Kindle, or Audible (though your decision won't really be as free as you think!).
Alternative Source: There's a YouTube "video" that is a recording of Sam describing this topic as part of his subscription-based podcast - so it's a bit unethical for this channel to have posted it. I personally prefer the book, but this recording is more recent and may represent a more refined argument.
The meeting will be via Zoom with a potential in-person follow-up.
