What we’re about
Tidewater Science & Reason (TS&R) consists of scientists and non-scientists alike, who are dedicated to promoting genuine science, the scientific method, rational thinking, and the use of logic and reason. We were founded in 2001 in Norfolk, VA and moved to Meetup in 2014. The group meets at least once a month for dinner and drinks, frequently with a speaker on a scientific topic.
Some topics we've discussed in the past:
• Anthropogenic Global Warming
• Sunspots and Their Effect on the Earth's Climate
• Color Vision and Color Blindness
• Epidemiology
• The Higgs Boson
• Veterinary Care at the Zoo
As you can see, we have a wide variety of interests. If you're interested in the open discourse of real science and reason, and you live in the Tidewater, VA** area, you are welcome to participate! Please join us!
If you'd like to participate with us between dinner meetings, go to our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/TWScienceReason
Also, for those who need more, More, MORE science, ODU now has a Science Pub series of lecturers and presentations that meets in various restaurants around the campus. Their web page is at http://odu.edu/partnerships/community/programs/science-pubs.
** Tidewater, also known as Hampton Roads, consists of the cities of Norfolk, Portsmouth, Chesapeake, Virginia Beach, Suffolk, Newport News, Hampton, and Williamsburg. Several counties in southeastern Virginia and the Peninsula also call themselves Tidewater. If you're in southeast Virginia, or even northeastern North Carolina, and feel you're within driving distance of our meetings, then you're our kind of people! We'd love for you to join.
