eXponential Finance Live - Central Bank Digital Currencies with John Kiff

We started 2023 off with a CBDC discussion led by John, and we are extremely grateful that he has again agreed to launch us into the new year. In John's words, "In some ways 2023 has been a very quiet year (in terms of actual launches and pilots) and in other ways quite busy (more central banks jumping on the bandwagon and the incumbents advancing their work significantly)."

John Kiff was a Senior Financial Sector Expert at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) from 2005 to 2021. Prior to that, he was at the Bank of Canada for 25 years, where he spent most of his time managing the funding and investment of the government’s foreign exchange reserves, including running its interest rate and currency swap book. At the IMF he was part of the team that produces the semi-annual Global Financial Stability Report covering innovative financial products.

John is currently the Head of CBDC & Digital Capital Markets Advisory at Satoshi Capital Advisors, where he is working with central banks, governments, and the private sector to architect, implement, and operate varying initiatives around CBDC architecture and implementation. In 2023, John has also joined SODA as Research Director, a technology-agnostic firm offering advisory services at the intersection of central banking, digital finance and the web3 industry, aiming to make public digital money a reality.
