⚠️🚨🚨The author will be with us in June! The Girl with the Louding Voice, published in 2020, tells the story of a 14-year-old girl promised to a forced marriage with an old man in her village. Despite numerous obstacles, she fights to achieve her dream of becoming a teacher and empowering other young girls facing the same fate. The novel partly written in Pidgin is both funny and inspiring. The sequel to this first book was published in 2024. It is named « And So I Roar ». Abi Daré is a award-winning author. Her debut novel The Girl with the Louding Voice won the Bath Novel Award in 2018 before it was published, and was shortlisted for several prizes for first novels, including the Desmond Elliott Prize. More recently, her second novel And So I Roar won the inaugural Climate Fiction Prize, a major international award recognising outstanding climate-themed fiction. Both books are available in Luxembourg librairies!

Hello Friends! This weekend, the traditional "Marche de l'Armée" will take place in Diekirch. Also known as the "Marche Internationale de Diekirch" or "March Militaire" or "Will I ever be able to walk on these feet again", it was initially an event organized by the Luxembourg Military, with participating groups from the French, Belgian, and German armies. At some point, private citizens joined, and it became an event officially open to the public. That's what the legend says, and we will probably not know much more, because even the "history of the walk" page on the official website only elaborates endlessly on the life of "John the Blind, count of Luxembourg", who was chosen for the emblem and logo of this event, but nothing else than that it took place for the first time in 1968 :) Whoever knows more about the history of this event may comment in the comments or talk during the walk. We're going to start at the official starting point at the "Cultural complex Al Seeërei“ close
to the train station. There will be no trains this weekend, and there are not many replacement buses that go directly from somewhere. One of them is L10 from Limpertsberg, going directly, but stopping "everywhere". Anticipate some waiting time due to early arrival rather than waiting for someone. **Car Pool:** If you come by car, you might offer a seat to a friendly co-hiker. Those who wish to do a shorter ride can take the **bus** from Echternach back to Lux gare. **3.** Cycle from Echternach lake to Wasserbilling gare (about 20km). If we maintain an average speed of about 18km/hour and have a total stop time of 90 minutes (including 1 hour picnic at the lake), we can finish the ride in 5 hours. **Getting home from finishing point (Wasserbillig gare)** There are trains from Wasserbillig to Luxembourg Gare every 30 minutes. Some trained COUNT volunteers work together once a month at RMH (http://www.rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer.php) as Housewarmers (usually on the 1st Sunday from 1 – 5 PM). Some schedule other shifts at their convenience. You may try this out with less fuss by following a "Fast track" or go through the normal process. Fast track • Arrange a time to shadow a COUNT volunteer. Call Dave Nohle at 614-268-9558 (cell). • Show up and try it out. • Complete application, etc. later. Normal process • Complete an online application (http://rmhc-centralohio.org/volunteer/). • Attend orientation in advance. • At orientation you will complete forms agreeing to keep family/patient info private and allowing a background check and tour the facility. • Complete one training shift. Daily shifts are: morning 9 AM - 1 PM, afternoon 1 - 5 PM and evening 5 - 9 PM. • Schedule shifts online using the on the RMH scheduling system (http://www.volgistics.com/ex/portal.dll/?FROM=32895). The Ronald McDonald House (RMH) provides housing and meals for families with sick children. The Columbus RMH is the largest in the world with 137 rooms. COUNT has been volunteering there since May 2014. Housewarmers work with RMH guests to provide a home-like environment - greet, assist with family needs, answer phones, give tours, assist with checkin/checkout, prepare guest rooms after checkout, clean facility, laundry, restock supplies and staff the front desk. RMH Housewarmers volunteer at least one four-hour shift a month. All Housewarmers must complete an application and agree to a background check before they can be full fledged volunteers.
