Welkom in 2026 - Een hapje en drankje / Welcome in 2026 - Food and drinks
(English below / Engels onderaan)
๐ฅณ We gaan afspreken, gewoon, voor de gezelligheid!
[update] Het is toch een beetje ongewoon. We hebben een echte koude ijzige sneeuwrijke winter!
Er is geen programma. Bepaal voor jezelf of je komt!
๐
Op 8 januari treffen we elkaar bij Danel Utrecht
๐ฆ Maskers zijn absoluut welkom. We hopen dat iedereen met COVID-gerelateerde klachten en/of een positieve test thuis wil blijven. Liever het zekere voor het onzekere.
(English/Engels)
๐ฅณ We're going to meet up, because we can, for social reasons!
[update] Maybe we can't. We've got a real cold icey snowy winter!
There's no programm. Decide for yourself if you're coming!
๐
We'll meet on January the 8th at Danel in Utrecht.
๐๐ฟ No presentations or agenda. It's more of a cocktail party, but don't feel like you're required to drink alcohol. (And just to be clear: everything is at your own expense. We didn't rent a space or anything alike) We'll come together with a group of likeminded people and have the opportunity to share our ups and downs. You're welcome at 16:00, or but join whenever suits you: after work, after dinner, join for a meal or don't, it doesn't matter. We're flexible!
๐ฆ Masks are absolutely welcome. We hope that everybody with COVID-related symptoms and/or a positive test will stay home. Rather be safe than sorry!
๐ฅ Looking forward to meeting up soon! If you're not present and/or want to have some digital conversation: join our [slack-channel](https://join.slack.com/t/idea11y/shared_invite/zt-8sp4de5x-i6RbV4GflD2uKHEszvb3nQ)!
AWS User Group January Meetup
**Dear AWS users,**
our January event will happen soon!
Thanks to **Aclue** for providing us the space, drinks and food for this AWS User Group Meetup.
**Agenda & Talks**:
* 18:00 Warm-up
* 18:30 - 19:15 **No Lambda, No Problem**: Building Functionless Serverless Workflows by Vincent Martens, Principal Consultant, Aclue
* 19:30 - 20:15 **AWS re:Invent re:Cap** by Alexey Vidanov, Senior Consultant, Storm Reply
* 20:15 - 21:00 Wrap up & Networking
**No Lambda, No Problem: Building Functionless Serverless Workflows**
While serverless frees us from managing servers, we still have to take care of application code, dependencies, and integrations. So why not go all in on managed services and embrace serviceโtoโservice communication?
In this talk, weโll explore how to build serverless workflows without any Lambda functions at all: which native cloud services you can combine, common integration patterns, and how to design โfunctionlessโ architectures. Weโll also look at the hard edges: where this approach breaks down, which tradeโoffs youโre making in terms of vendor lockโin, and when you really do need a function again.
**AWS re:Invent re:Cap**
AWS re:Invent once again delivered what everyone expects from the event: major announcements, fast keynotes, and a large volume of new services and features that are hard to process during the week itself.
This year also included something unexpected. Werner Vogelsโ final keynote appearance gave the conference a different tone and emotional weight.
In this re:Cap session, we will quickly walk through the most relevant announcements from re:Invent, focus on what actually matters in practice, and share personal observations from the event, including why this re:Invent felt different from previous years.
Shut Up & Write! [Amsterdam/ IJburg]
Join us for an hour of writing! Weโve discovered that itโs strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if itโs true for you at Factor-ij Amsterdam on Thursday mornings.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
SCHEDULE:
11: 15 AM - Quick introductions
11: 30 AM - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
12: 30 PM - The End: chat, take off, or keep writing
OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING happens at 12:30 pm after the writing is wrapped. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
BEING LATE IS OKAY: just show up and get settled, then check-in with me after the session. (Iโll be the person with the Shut Up & Write! sign.) If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing and I look forward to seeing you at Factor-ij!
What Should I Bring?
Whatever you need to be able to write!
Bring earbuds/earplugs if you want to block the cafeโs overhead music or the occasional conversation by other patrons.
Please come with your devices pre-charged, since we probably won't be always sitting somewhere with charging possibilities.
Other Important Details:
Travel by public transportation:
1. Take Tram 26 from the central station Amsterdam, and step out by the last stop.
2. Take bus 66 from the Amsterdam Bijlmer station, step out by Pieter Oosterhuisstraat, and further walk in the direction of the bus till the corner.
FREE Wifi.
Compulsory consumption is not required, but please do order a drink to honor our generous host.
Swimming lessons for adults | Beginners
If you are living in The Netherlands, by now, you may well have noticed the amount of open water. If you enjoy cycling in the city, you may wish to feel safer as you navigate the bridges and canals. And you may also want to get ready for visiting the beach, pools or the many lakes this summer.
Learning how to swim takes approx 1 year and it all starts with the very first lesson. New comers enroll via our website and pay โฌ 30,50, this is the first lesson and a goody bag. After the class you agree with the personal swim coach how to continue to obtain your final objectives.
Enrolling is only possible via [www.your-personal-swim-coach.nl ](https://www.your-personal-swim-coach.nl/)hence a rvsp via meetup is not enough.
Why and how to avoid โproduct discoveryโ activities without teams?
**There is an assumption in product development that there must be some form of product discovery and/or preparation before โworkโ goes to teams. Hence, the assumed need for product discovery vs delivery processes. E.g. double diamond discovery process and division between so-called product folks and engineering.**
**In this talk, I will show you why the double diamond and the related division between discovery and delivery is harmful, and with stories and practical advice give alternatives.**

\**Train delays and cancellations could affect the meetup time in Tilburg. If this is the case, it will be announced in the discussion chat of this event page.*
***
**City walk, Free time & Sterrentocht**
This event consists partly of a group walk in the city center of Tilburg and partly of offering free time. The group walk is at a slow pace so you can connect with others, while enjoying the scenery of the city and taking photos along the way. In case of bad weather: bring an umbrella! After about 75 minutes, free time starts: weโll check in if people like to continue our group walk or if there are other ideas to do in the city. For instance going to a museum, a cafรฉ, do photography or anything else. If we continue our walk it will be at the same pace, weโll go to new areas and if thereโs enough interest weโll go for a coffee in between. At 17:00 weโll stop hosting the event, but on this day the Sterrentocht is organized in Tilburg, starting at 17:00 @Willemsplein. This is a real recommendation if you like light, arts and Dutch cultural events.
**Meetup in Arnhem & Tilburg**
This event has a meetup in Arnhem (11:40) and Tilburg (13:00), as described above. If you're joining us in Arnhem, you have to use your own OV-chipkaart. Tip: check [ns.nl/reisplanner](http://ns.nl/reisplanner) on the day itself to be in time at either meetup spot! For car users, I suggest checking the official municipality website to find parking spaces and what fares apply. U&R is originally based in Arnhem, but invites people from anywhere to join our travels.
**Sign-up: RSVP on Meetup or Google Forms**
Sign up for this event by RSVP here on Meetup or sign up via Forms: [https://forms.gle/C6JCCUH68X7QbQtV7](https://forms.gle/C6JCCUH68X7QbQtV7). Everyone is asked to pay a 3 euro contribution to help us maintain our costs on Meetup. This is refundable if U&R cancels the event or reschedules it to a different day, or if you cancel 72 hours before the meetup. Hope to see you in Tilburg!

7.5km walk in Utrecht, along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal
Come and join us for a 7.5 km hike along the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal in Utrecht on Saturday 10th of January! Starting and ending at Utrecht Leidsche Rijn train station, we will be walking a pretty straightforward route along the water, passing points of interest like the Douwe Egberts coffee factory, Sportpark Marco van Basten, the Daphne Schippers bridge and a mini Dom Tower. After the walk there's the option to go for a lunch together.
Do you think about joining, but you're not sure if it's something for you? Let us explain. Utrecht Hiking Community aims to organise one hike per month in or around Utrecht. If you're in for a hike with a bunch of friendly other hiking enthusiasts, you're very welcome to join, no matter whether you're an expat, local, nomad, student, professional, beginner, alone or with friends. The hikes are a way to meet people while being active and going to places you otherwise might not be going to. We call this 'Social Hiking'. If your aim is to hike fast, we might not be the right hiking group for you though.
We're organising our hikes together with UR-Glocal, the organisation of expats in Utrecht Region organising several kinds of activities. For an impression of our previous hikes, check www.instagram.com/utrecht.hiking.community
We're gathering in the tunnel under Utrecht Leidsche Rijn train station at 10.30AM. Just look for a group of people who look like they're going for a walk and you'll probably find us. Please arrive before 10.30AM, as we don't want to let the whole group wait for you. If you're unexpectedly arriving late, you can send a message on WhatsApp to +31621177691. We'll then share our location with you, so you can try to catch up with the group.
Please check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. It may be cold, snowing and slippery, so it may be wise to wear warm clothes and waterproof shoes with a good grip.
Dogs are allowed on this route. As we'll have to climb down some stairs at the bridges over the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal, the route is not suitable for people with strollers. There is no public toilet at Utrecht Leidsche Rijn train station, so please visit a restroom before arriving.
For those coming by car we recommend to either use the parking garage at Brusselplein (first two hours are free, after that it's โฌ2.50 per hour), or park the car at the Laurierweg (free parking at about 5 minutes walking distance). Parking on the street closer to the train station costs โฌ5.34 per hour.
Participation in the hike is free of charge. We do have some costs for organising our hikes though, like the yearly subscription for MeetUp that costs quite a lot. Therefore we would really appreciate it if you could support us by making a small donation through this link: https://www.ing.nl/payreq/m/?trxid=hGMLSyFFHLGutO1Con05XYedRw8bB6V3
If you have any questions, please let us know. We hope to see you on Saturday!

Happy 8th Birthday, GOhio! @ Pins Mechanical!!! ๐ ๐ ๐จ ๐ ๐ ๐ง ๐ ๐ฅณ ๐ฐ ๐ช
๐
*GOhio!* turns 8!! ๐ฅณ Come celebrate with us at [Pins Mechanical](https://www.pinsbar.com/locations/easton)! ๐
**Summary**
Pins Mechanical Co. is a social entertainment venue that combines old-school games like duckpin bowling, pinball, and other classic arcade and table games with craft cocktails, local beers, and punch. The vintage-industrial atmosphere is designed for playful, face-to-face gatherings with friends, family, and colleagues, offering a casual and lively alternative to a typical bar.
Pins' Easton location spans over 38,000 square feet, making it the largest in the United States. This massive entertainment venue features two floors, a mezzanine level with stadium seating, and three full-service bars. It offers 16 duckpin bowling lanes, two indoor bocce courts, and more than 60 classic and modern pinball and arcade games. For additional fun, the location is known for its two outdoor patios, an indoor slide, and an expanded patio pong setup.
**Activities**
As noted below, some machines take actual quarters. Pins has two change machines (one downstairs and one upstairs) that accept ones, fives, or tens (only), and return quarters (only).
* *Duckpin Bowling*
[Like Bowling](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duckpin_bowling) but with smaller balls, stubby pins, and no oil on the lanes. The cost is $9 per game per person.
* *Pinball*
[Who](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Who)'s a [wizard](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pinball_Wizard) on these [retro machines](https://pinballmap.com/map/?by_location_id=15311)? At $1 per play, everyone! Takes quarters.
* *Arcade*
Play classics like Gorf, Pac-Man, Gorf, Donkey Kong, Gorf, Galaga, and Gorf! The best part is, there's Gorf! And all the arcade games are free!
* *Patio Pong*
The classic college party staple but bigger. Instead of tossing a ping pong ball into cups, you use a regular ball and oversized buckets. There are two of these upstairs, and they're both free!
* *Ping Pong*
The most popular sport in China! They have two ping pong tables downstairs and two more ping pong tables upstairs. For those of you who have studied topological spaces and set theory, you will know this means they have four total ping pong tables.
They have bubble gum dispensers with ping pong balls in them for 25ยข each. The dispensers take quarters. However, they also have racks where they store the ping pong paddles, and in these racks are slots for ping pong balls. It's not uncommon to see balls already here, so there's a chance you may be able to play ping pong for free if you want to.
* *Hookie*
You can't put your eye out! The safe alternative to darts: Hook thrown rings on a board. Outdoors on the upstairs patio, and free!
* *Bocce*
Like bowling, except thereโs turf and a lot more balls. You can also knock your opponentโs balls out of the way. There are two of these upstairs, and they're both free!
* *Foosball*
Everyone loves [foosball](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Table_football)! 50ยข a game. Takes quarters.
* *Giant Jenga*
Stack massive wooden blocks into a tower, then take turns pulling out one block at a time without collapsing the tower. There are four of these sprinkled throughout the venue (two downstairs and two upstairs, with one on each patio), and they're all free!
* *Skeeball*
There are three skeeball machines on the first floor (near the Gorf machine!), and they're all free!
* *Giant Connect Four*
On the outdoor patio upstairs, and free!
* *Bubble Hockey*
This is upstairs. Up to four people can play at once, and it costs $1. Takes quarters.
* *Cornhole*
There are two cornhole lanes upstairs, and they're both free!
* *Basketball*
There are two basketball machines downstairs. They're tucked behind the downstairs bar, so they're not always obvious unless you go look for them. They're $2 per play, and they take quarters.
* *NES and Sega Genesis video games*
These are collections, downstairs (near the Gorf machine!), of video games that you can play for free!
* *The Big Metal Indoor Slide*
This large two-story slide is for kids, and certainly no adults would ride this. After all, it's not like it's free or anything.
**Outdoor Patio**
Pins at Easton actually has two outdoor patios. But for our purposes, only the upstairs one matters. See, it will be winter and likely cold. But their upstairs patio has multiple ceiling heaters and two massive gas fire pits that put out a ton of heat. Sitting out here may be a real option.
As mentioned above, the upstairs outdoor patio has one of the venue's two Patio Pong setups, one of their multiple Giant Jengas, the Giant Connect Four, and Hookie.
**Food**
Pins doesn't serve food, but there's a [Mikey's Late Night Slice](https://www.latenightslice.com/) next door. This Mikey's is basically an extension of the Easton Pins; there's a large open doorway between both establishments. Mikey's has a fountain dispenser with Coke products.
You can also get Coke and Diet Coke (but not Coke Zero, like you can at Mikey's) at the bars in Pins, but I think the quality of the soda pop from Mikey's fountain is better than that from the bar hoses Pins uses to dispense soft drinks.
You are also quite allowed at Pins to either bring food in or order it in via your favorite delivery app.
**Parking**
I recommend parking in the [Worth Garage](https://eastontowncenter.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/09/parking-at-easton-updated-file-sept-25.pdf). It's literally right next door to Pins, and it's free as long as you park on Level 2 or above.
They recently started charging people to park on Level 1, and you pay for parking on this level the same way you pay for street parking in Columbus, with the [ParkColumbus](https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.parkmobile.parkcolumbus&hl=en_US&pli=1) app.
I've seen them enforce this by ticketing people's cars, but I don't know how they actually compel payment. The garage is not a public street that actual cops can write you tickets for parking illegally on. If you have an actual ticket from a cop that you don't pay, they can go so far as to issue a warrant for your arrest. But all Easton has, seemingly, is, "[Please pay our ticket](https://eastonpreferredpark.com/)." Still, in my ongoing efforts to eliminate needless stress and aggravation from my life, I just park above the first Level.
The actual address of the garage is [4049 Worth Ave, Columbus, OH 43219](https://www.google.com/maps/place/4049+Worth+Ave,+Columbus,+OH+43219/@40.0542293,-82.9137962,17z/data=!3m1!4b1!4m6!3m5!1s0x88388a86de3af559:0xc1dc8b4661fc834f!8m2!3d40.0542293!4d-82.9137962!16s%2Fg%2F11sgzjp4ml?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDkyNC4wIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D). However, your GPS is stupid. The actual entrances to the garage are on the cross steets Brighton Rose Way and Fenlon St, not Worth Ave. Just keep this in mind once you get to the garage.
**Where we'll meet**
I'll post in the comments where I am. People will obviously want to explore different areas of the venue over the course of the event (and there's a lot to explore), but please just let me know (as in, come find me) once you've arrived.
**Peroration**
Come on out and say hi! ๐
