The Global Justice Discussion Group is a monthly space at New Unity to make sense of events happening in our fast-changing world, share how we’re thinking and feeling about them, sit with the discomfort, and to ask what a values-led response might look like. Each month we'll take one issue as our focus and unpack the facts; share our emotional and moral reactions; and explore what personal, communal, and political responses are available to us. No expertise required — only a willingness to show up, listen, think, and talk together. All perspectives that engage in good faith are welcome. This month’s topic: **Sanctions**, also known by the United Nations as Unilateral Coercive Measures. Join us to discuss what forms sanctions take, whose interests they serve, what impact they have and whether there are any circumstances under which sanctions serve to promote global justice. Ideas are always welcome! *We offer workshops unlike most other gay/bisexual men's therapeutic discussion groups.* **A Speaker** We will at times provide a Speaker for our meetings kickstarting interesting and stimulating discussions. The Speaker can be an expert in their field such as for example an author, a therapist or a philosopher but we are welcoming any of our members to be a Speaker or a demonstrator of exercises such as massage, pilates or yoga. Or perhaps you would want to talk about your profession, if you feel it has relevance to our group. You would just have to contact Dan first for a discussion and planning. **Frequency of meetings / fee** In 2026 we’ll only have one meeting per month in person at the City Lit College in Covent Garden and one meeting online. If there is a demand for more in person meetings we’ll consider having more. We are happy to confirm that our entry prices won’t be raised and that in person meetings remain at £10. Online meetings will be FREE in January and February after which it will be £5 to attend. **Walks / museum visits** We will continue offering our occasional walking trips and also now include gay/bisexual themed history walks and visits to Museums. But what allows some species to survive and adapt to new environments, while others are confined to fossils? Why do some groups diversify into thousands of species, while others remain at small numbers for millions of years? And why do the same forms evolve over and over again in different groups, at different times, and in different places, while many hypothetical forms never evolve at all? In this Discourse, evolutionary biologist **Anjali Goswami** will explore the evolutionary paths that have led to life on Earth as we know it. Using a wealth of fossil data, she will explain how we can piece together the changing tempos of evolution, and delves into how new technology is allowing scientists to understand evolution like never before. You won’t just need to take Anjali’s word for it – you'll be able to hear the data as well, as the evolutionary record for a variety of species is converted to audio.
