Talk: Clocking Longitude, Master clockmaker John Harrison
Meet out front at ten to 1pm (12:50) and go in together. Join Lester Hillman for a talk about John Harrison, master clockmaker. I have long been fascinated by historic issues with measuring longitude. Rather important for ships to know where they had sailed to! This problem couldn't be solved until clocks were accurate enough, and capable of functioning aboard ships. Please join me. RSVP as soon as you know, I still need to request more tickets. The attendance fee is £2.50, thank you.

Art Journaling for Wellbeing with Sai Banerjee
Art Journaling for Wellbeing with Sai Banerjee
Art Journaling is a fun and simple way to incorporate creativity into everyday life. An art journal is a great place to experiment and try out different approaches to art without the pressure of creating a masterpiece. It is an artistic form of self-expression – instead of using words alone; you will be using various media and different art techniques to express your creativity. In a busy world, largely driven by technology, taking time to be creative can often seem frivolous and indulgent. But studies show that creative activities encourage positivity and significantly improve our wellbeing. Art journaling is an effective way to de-stress and practice self-care. Join us for these drop-in sessions in Art journaling with Sai, an experienced teaching artist, avid art journaler and professional calligrapher. From simple mark making to elaborate mixed media art you will learn a variety of new skills; gain confidence in your artistic ability and develop an amazing creative habit that is both enriching and nourishing. Whether you have five minutes or half an hour to spare, Art journaling will inspire you to be creative, practice self-care and reconnect with yourself. Each week we work with different media and techniques. Sai provides some resources, however please bring an art journal and some basic supplies with you. Contact Sai directly to book bluepaletteartstudio@gmail.com

London daytime testing at Waterloo
London daytime testing at Waterloo
We playtest all sorts of games - strategic, silly, creative, or whatever. Some games are almost done. Some are very early ideas. We test anything that will fit into 90 minutes. You don't need to bring a game - we always love to have new playtesters! Please let us know in the comments when you plan to arrive/leave and whether you are bringing a game or not. This helps us to plan the day better. The schedule is: 10am onwards - gathering, chatting 11am sharp - playing for 90 min ('slot 1') 12:30ish - break for food/chat 1pm sharp - playing for 90 min ('slot 2') 2:30ish - break for food/chat 3pm sharp - playing for 90 min ('slot 3') 4:30ish - finish up Often, we might hang around afterwards, to play some already-published games. We are strict on timings, so please try to arrive a few minutes before the session to limit disruption. You can just come for part of the day if you wish. The reason we have fixed timings for the 3 'slots' is to make it easier for folk to do so. Designers of all levels of experience are welcome! But if it's your first time, we ask that you don't bring a game and just spend some time learning how the group works. The group works based on reciprocation. If you expect to test your own game, make sure stay for long enough to play other games. As a general rule of thumb, you can expect to play one of your own games every third 90-minute session. So if you stay a whole day (3 sessions), you can expect to have one session to play your game(s). A good rule of thumb is that if you come all day, you will have one 90 minute session with two other playtesters in which to test your own games. It is sometimes possible to test games with more players. If your game requires 4 or more, please note that as standard you will be allocated half of a session (45 minutes). Pre-covid, we were getting unmanageable. As a result, we may have to limit attendees. This is a free-to-use venue, and we have to be mindful that other folk want to use the same space. Please note: This is an adults only event. We look forward to seeing you!

#1 - the UX of nature
#1 - the UX of nature
**Meet likeminded UX professionals and discuss ways to use design to reduce burnout.** **The Problem:** With stress and burnout on the rise, how can we use design to help Londoners "switch off" and reconnect with nature? For our first **design impact lab** session, we’ll be using the Japanese practice of *Shinrin-yoku* (forest bathing) as a lens to discuss how simple interventions can help us reconnect with nature to reduce stress & burnout. **The Flow (Sunday 12th April 10:30 AM - 12:30 PM):** * **10:00 \| Coffee & Intros \(WatchHouse\, Hanover\):** We’ll meet for coffee to kick things off. You'll meet other attendees and discuss the problem space. * **10:30 \| Observation Walk:** A 15-minute mini fieldwork walk to Hyde Park. You'll observe how the environment changes from a busy urban centre to the park and how this impacts how you feel. * **11:00 \| Shinrinyoku & Brainstorming:** Once we find a quiet spot, we’ll dive into the world of *Shinrin-yoku*. We’ll discuss how nature can boost wellbeing and brainstorm "micro-interventions" - simple design ideas (digital or physical) that could encourage more people in London to engage with nature to reduce stress & burnout. * **12:00 \| Closing & Optional Lunch:** We'll wrap up our discussions and those who have time can go for a casual lunch or picnic in the park. *** **Pre-Event Mission:** Your mission is to bring **one photo on your phone** of a natural spot that made you feel good recently. It can be a park, a window box, or even a stubborn weed in the pavement. We’ll share these over coffee to explore the different ways in which nature impacts our day to day experiences. *** **The Details:** * **Meeting Point:** WatchHouse, Hanover (Oxford Circus). * **Capacity:** We’re keeping this to a small group to ensure everyone can connect and contribute. Please ensure your RSVP is up to date and let us know if you're unable to attend. * **Vibe:** Friendly and relaxed! No laptops, just notebooks and fresh air. *** **Why Join?** If you’re a designer or researcher who wants to use your skills for more than just "conversion," come say hi. It’s a chance to meet like-minded people, learn about forest bathing and brainstorm design solutions to a universal problem. It's also our very first event, and I would love to hear everyone's thoughts and feedback to improve. **Who is this for?** Our events are for UX designers, researchers and other strategic and creative thinkers who are passionate about using their skills for social good, not just profit. **Who is the host?** Hi! 👋 I'm Max - a London based design researcher. Until recently I was based in Tokyo, where I ran a small design agency and spent over 10 years as a meetup organizer. I'm exploring ways to bring designers together to use our skills to work on meaningful problems. If that sounds like something you're interested in, I'd love to have you join! \*This event is being advertised on multiple sites, so the actual number of attendees will be different to what appears on meetup.

PORTRAIT IN EGG TEMPERA MASTERCLASS- WITH ARTIST ROBIN-LEE HALL – 11 APRIL 2026
PORTRAIT IN EGG TEMPERA MASTERCLASS- WITH ARTIST ROBIN-LEE HALL – 11 APRIL 2026
**Join artist Robin-Lee Hall for a masterclass in how to paint in the ancient medium of egg tempera.** Egg tempera is a beautifully delicate medium, allowing you to build luminescent layers and fine detail. The medium was used by artists such as Sandro Botticelli and Leonardo da Vinci, and helped to define their painting and drawing styles. The process of creating an egg tempera painting is unlike any other painting medium. There are no harmful solvents involved, just powdered pigment mixed with egg and water. It feels at first like watercolour and dries just as quickly. However, successive layers of paint create a luminous colour saturated finish. The medium also allows you to create intricate detail and layering of mark making to create volumous surfaces. Join us to draw with pure colour! ***Outline of the day*** Participants will learn how to make their own paint, learn about raw pigments, mix colour and handle the medium. This will then be applied to developing a small work, either from still life or a reference image. All materials are provided. ***Your Tutor*** Robin-Lee Hall is a prize-winning artist and Past President of the Royal Society of Portrait Painters. She works primarily in egg tempera, but also uses other mediums including digital drawing on an iPad. Robin lectures and delivers workshops at the National Gallery, the National Portrait Gallery and the Royal Academy of Arts. Her work has been exhibited widely, in and around London, including the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition and in the National Portrait Gallery’s Portrait Award. **Portrait in Egg Tempera with Robin-Lee Hall** **Saturday 11 April** **10-4.30pm** **£110 All materials included** [MORE INFO & BOOKING](https://londondrawing.com/product/portrait-in-egg-tempera-masterclass-with-artist-robin-lee-hall-11-april-2026/) **VENUE:** **Artizan Street Library & Community Centre** 1 Artizan Street London E1 7AF

Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: What Digital Detectives Find
Profs & Pints Northern Virginia: What Digital Detectives Find
[Profs and Pints Northern Virginia](https://www.profsandpints.com/washingtondc) presents: **“What Digital Detectives Find,”** on the afterlife of your digital data and the methods of those who investigate it, with Jim Jones, associate professor at George Mason University and cyber security and digital forensics expert. [Advance tickets: $13.50 plus sales tax and processing fees. Available at [https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-digital-detectives](https://events.ticketleap.com/tickets/profsandpints/nv-digital-detectives) .] What happens when you delete digital data such as a picture, video, or email message? The truth is that “deleted” doesn't mean “gone,” and digital forensic investigators can extract and make sense of the residual fragments left over from data often assumed to be gone forever. Learn about the field of digital forensics—and the lessons it offers those who worry about sensitive data being exposed—with Jim Jones, who has been a cyber security and digital forensics practitioner, researcher, and educator for more than 30 years. You’ll learn how all investigations today, criminal and otherwise, to some degree involve digital forensics, an interdisciplinary field that draws from computer engineering, computer science, information technology, law, and ethics. Digital forensics doesn’t just respond to specific incidents, but also seeks out threats within organizations, analyzes malware, and buttresses cyber security. Much of the work of Dr. Jones, his colleagues, and students involves examining digital systems of all types to understand how data persists and decays and how it can be found and recovered. Dr. Jones will discuss how what happens to the digital data that you deleted depends on the type of device you are using, along with a host of other factors. You'll learn how digital data is stored on different devices and what does and doesn’t happen when you delete that data. You'll see examples of data extracted from different devices, demonstrations of what can be inferred from these remnants, and how investigators can tell if such remnants are genuine or not. Finally, you'll learn about strategies to mitigate the risk of exposing sensitive data. Dr. Jones will sort those that work from those that don’t. (Doors: $17, or $15 with a student ID. Listed time is for doors. Talk starts 30 minutes later.) Image: A digital forensics examiner works with evidence in the FBI’s New Jersey Regional Computer Forensics Laboratory (FBI photo).

Creative Minds Summit: Color Mapping Abstract Art
We are honored to host Jaime Echt from The Crafter's Workshop for our annual Creative Minds Summit. Whether you’re new to Stencil Butters® or a longtime fan, this class is going to bring your Mixed-Media/Art Journaling game up a notch. You’re going to start by making a color swatch ring of all your favorite colors (and there are over 40 colors to choose from.) This’ll give you a chance to see how colors interact with water and other modifiers. Plus it’ll be a great reference tool to take home with you. From there you’ll create one or more frameable pieces of art. Jaime will walk you through technique after technique, from mark-making to stenciling, from dry brush to wet palette knife, and everything in between. You’ll leave with the swatch ring and at least one finished piece. Feel free to bring your art journal to work in.
