Visitor Talks x Public Social HackJam
This is Dim Sum Labs' Public HackJam meet. Free! Everyone is welcome to join us. If you are an engineer, designer, programmer, artist, creator, innovator, visionary, entrepreneur, or inventor, join us for an evening of thought-provoking conversations. Or better yet, bring your projects, ask for help, and show them off.

This week we have two visitors showing off their projects.
**Pomoduino:** Torrey Nommesen, a guy who loves to travel, hang out with makers, and learn new things is showing off his Arduino-based productivity timer on a PCB that uses the Pomodoro Technique. In this session, I’ll briefly explain how the Pomodoro method boosts focus, then we’ll dive in and solder the timer together from scratch. You’ll walk away with a functional gadget for your desk and a practical technique for your toolkit. This project is his excuse to connect, share skills, and learn from this amazing community and hopefully to help fund my habit of exploring hacker spaces worldwide. You'll be able to build one and take it home from between 80-250HKD.
**Rendering and serving 400 clients on a phone:** Valentin Burov is a roboticist by day and runs DigitRaver out of San Francisco by night. He’s visiting DSL to give a microtalk on how he scaled the virtual event space to serve 10x the users of Fortnite per shard. We’ll go beyond the traditional optimizations and talk about memory congruency, data oriented design, and how to not throw the kitchen sink and use only what you need for your 3D app. Then we’ll show off the gains in a live demo via chaos monkeys

IKI
Hire artisans, set them up in the market and acquire prestige in feudal Japan.
Difficulty: Medium
**PLEASE keep an eye on your messages as I may need to message you. You will need to reply within 24 hours or potentially lose your place.**
Edo — what we now know today as Tokyo, Japan — was a thriving city with an estimated population of one million, half townspeople and half samurai. With a huge shopping culture, Edo's main district, Nihonbashi, was lined with shops, selling kimonos, rice, and so much more.
Nihonbashi is the focus of IKI: A Game of EDO Artisans, which brings you on a journey through the famed street of old Tokyo. Hear the voices of Nihonbashi Bridge's great fish market. Meet the professionals, who carry out 700-800 different jobs. Enter the interactivity of the shoppers and vendors. Become one with the townspeople.
One of the main professions in the world of Edo is the artisan. Each of the Edo artisans uses their own skill of trade to support the townspeople's lives. In this game, not only are there artisans, but street vendors, sellers at the shops, and professions unique to this time and age. Meet the puppet masters, putting on a show. Meet the ear cleaners that people would line up for.
The goal of this game is to become the annual Edoite, best personifying what is known as "IKI", an ancient philosophy believed to be the ideal way of living among people in Edo. Knowing the subtleties of human nature, being refined and attractive — these are all elements of a true IKI master.
(Description from BoardGameGeek)

- 有的強調背叛與欺騙;
- 有的鼓勵合作與信任;
- 有的呈現資源掠奪與階級制度;
- 偏好背叛遊戲者,可能潛意識相信「信任是愚蠢的」;
- 偏好優勝劣敗機制者,或許認為「人生就是競爭」;
- 觀察誰在壓力下會妥協、誰會反抗;
- 留意誰善於操控局勢、誰容易情緒化;
- 測試不同「人格類型」在不同遊戲類型的表現;

SPE Luncheon: Ten Secrets of Production Optimization Using AI
Our guest speaker is Alexander (Sandy) Walker, SPE Distinguished Lecturer, who will deliver his talk, Ten Secrets of Production Optimization Using Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Production optimization lends itself nicely to the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) because computers are very good at monitoring surveillance data, spotting changes in operating parameters, and carrying out boring, repetitive tasks.
By combining real-time data, production tests, and nodal analysis with artificial intelligence, it is possible for computers to perform powerful well surveillance to identify problems and opportunities automatically. By capitalizing on AI, engineers can boost well production 6–8%.
The use of AI allows engineers to manage many more wells effectively. Case studies will be presented to show how AI has been used to perform simple tasks and even advanced pattern recognition to identify specific well problems. This lecture will provide ten secrets of how to be successful in using AI to optimize your producing wells.
**Speaker Bio**
Alexander “Sandy” Williams has worked in the petroleum industry for 34 years. He founded Artificial Lift Performance Ltd. (ALP), which is now a part of ChampionX. ALP developed a software application to help operators monitor, analyze, and optimize wells using artificial lift. This software has empowered engineers to make decisions quickly to maximize production of more than 6,000 wells.
Sandy began his career at Amoco, then worked at Phoenix Schlumberger Artificial Lift before becoming a consultant focused on artificial lift and production optimization. He has worked and lived in the USA, Oman, Venezuela, Ecuador, and Colombia, so he is fluent in Spanish. He has taught over 200 courses related to production optimization and artificial lift and has authored 15 technical papers on those subjects.
