Toastmasters International is a world leader in communication and leadership development. Our membership is 313,000 strong. Members improve their speaking and leadership skills by attending one of the 14,650 clubs in 126 countries that make up our global network of meeting locations.
The world needs leaders. Leaders head families, coach teams, run businesses, and mentor others. These leaders must not only accomplish but must also communicate. By regularly giving speeches, gaining feedback, leading teams, and guiding others to achieve their goals in a supportive atmosphere, leaders emerge from the Toastmasters program. Every Toastmaster's journey begins with a single speech. During their journey, they learn to tell their stories. They listen and answer. They plan and lead. They give feedback—and accept it. Through our community of learners, they find their path to leadership.
Creative Writing Budapest
**This week's venue: Beer People \| Lázár utca 7\, Budapest 1065**
We hold a bi-weekly workshop to encourage creative writing where we share pieces of creative writing and solicit feedback from the other attendees.
Some members also use the forum to find others with whom to collaborate, edit work, and/or brainstorm plot, themes, settings, and so forth. And from time to time, we participate in competitions, recite and/or offer material for events organized by other groups.
At the moment there is no prompt for this particular meetup.
Instead, writers are invited to submit something they have (or are working on) or to craft a short story specifically for the event.
Of course, there's no pressure to submit something. Many participants are interested in hearing ideas, questioning the authors, and examining style and technique. Often, we explore other published works as well.
The submission guidelines are as follows:
1. limit the piece to 850 words (to give enough time for any other submissions being read at the event);
2. make the text available (though you can read it aloud) for the other attendees. Many authors bring a few printed copies, others post their work in the comments of the meetup;
3. have a question in mind for the group about the submission; and,
4. If offering something from a longer work, be prepared to give a little bit of background first.

Meditation and Sound Bath to Start the Week
Please scroll down for English!
Egy belső utazásra hívlak a hangok szárnyán kéthetente pénteken.
Sólepte burokba.
Hanghullámzásba.
Befelé fordulásra.
Amíg tested egy dönthető széken megpihen, lényed a hanghullámok mossák át. A só behatol a bőröd alá, lágyan tisztítva át a finomenergetikai rendszered.
A hangrezgések nyitnak, töltenek, emlékeztetnek. Hullámaik áttörik, felszabadítják a belső energetikai elakadásokat.

Into a salt-covered shell.
Into sound waves.
To turn inward.
While your body rests on a reclining chair, your being is washed by sound waves. The salt penetrates under your skin, gently cleansing your subtle energy system.
The sound vibrations open, fill, remind. Their waves break through, releasing internal energetic blockages. They support you to restore your inner balance. They lead you back into the flow.
I invite you to a space where body and mind rest, eyes close and heart open.
For a 60-minute timeless journey into yourself.
For a silent connection, to create with yourself.

Session #28 - Stoicism, Broicism and other intersections
*“...whatsoever thou doest, whereof thou thyself art the cause, to do it justly: which will be, if both in thy resolution and in thy action thou have no further end, than to do good unto others, as being that, which by thy natural constitution, as a man, thou art bound unto”*
**Marcus Aurelius Antonino - Meditations.**
**(Session in english!)**
Stoicism, was a philosophy started by Zeno of Citium. Centuries after Marcus Aurelius, the "philosopher King" offered through *Meditations,* a direct and personal account on his thoughts and ideas. His message is still widely popular nearly 2,000 years later.
More recently Stoicism re-emerged as a hack for self-mastery, achievement and life success. Picked and reinterpreted by modern voices such as Ryan Holiday, and amplified in more controversial forms by figures like Andrew Tate.
In this session we will have the opportunity to focus on Marcus Aurelius' *Meditations* and how it has been passed through a filter of today's youtube pop-culture.
If you like this philosophy, especially the new version, or hate this philosophy, especially the new version, please accept my most sincere invitation to assist to our session! If you have no idea about what this is, this will certainly be useful, too.
We will focus on: *self-accountability, emotional control, power and masculinity, denial of mental health, competition, life as conquest, and finally how these ideas intersect with relationships, gender, and politics.*
**Introduction of guests (15 minutes)**
We start with a short introduction of the guests, and how familiar are they with stoicism (the classic or modern version)
**Questions (1 hour and 45 minutes)**
1. Does classic stoicism and the new broicism intersect? The case of Ryan Holiday.
2. Radical self-accountability. Can it backfire?
3. Emotional control. What were Marcus Aurelius' actual takes on the mater?
4. Masculinity. Why is Stoicism often framed as a masculine philosophy?
5. Is emotional restraint a strength — or a social expectation placed on men?
6. Do women have the possibility to choose a stoic way of life, without assuming the traditional female role?
7. Can emotional detachment conflict with intimacy?
8. Is pop-stoicism more a cause or a consequence of today's cooling gender relations?
9. Can Stoicism help with depression? or hide it?
10. Is vulnerability an act of weakness?
11. Where is the line between discipline and self-neglect?
12. How aligned is the idea of brutal competitive life achievement to stoicism?
13. Would a classic stoic pursue dominance, influence or wealth? How important was it for them?
14. Why now? What can be the reasons for stoicism's new found popularity?
15. Is “focus on what you control” psychologically realistic in complex societies?
16. Can Stoicism be used to rationalize hierarchy, oppression and inequality?

**🔷 Going Multiplatform with Your Android App - Márton Braun, JetBrains**
Existing Android apps are in a great position to expand into Kotlin Multiplatform: you might already be using patterns, libraries, and APIs that work on more platforms than just Android. With Compose Multiplatform, you can build an app with a fully shared Kotlin codebase, targeting iOS, desktop, and even the web!
In this talk, we’ll look at how you can migrate an existing Android app to multiplatform. As this can be a significant engineering effort for an existing, well-established app, we’ll also discuss how to plan and organize the required changes, and how to adopt KMP incrementally across your codebase without disrupting day-to-day development.
**🔷 When MediaProjection Isn't Enough - Building a Custom In-App Session Recorder - István Juhos, Spoke**
Debugging user issues gets so much easier when you can see exactly what they experienced. While off-the-shelf solutions exist to integrate screen recording into our apps, they didn't give us the quality, flexibility, or control we needed. So, our team built our own native, in-app session recording tool for Android.
In this talk, I'll share why we decided to go in-house, how we tackled the technical and UX hurdles along the way, and what we learned about recording high-quality video and audio data.
We'll dive into tricky bits like exploring - and discarding - the MediaProjection API, handling codecs and muxers across devices, designing recording controls that stay out of the user's way, playing back recordings, and managing background uploads without draining your users' battery or patience.

Stances of the Product Owner: From Backlog Admin to Value Driver
Many organizations treat the Product Owner as a backlog administrator, ticket writer, or go-between — and then wonder why their products drift, stall, or miss the mark. The role gets distorted in predictable ways, and the cost is real: slower decisions, misaligned teams, and products that serve processes instead of users.
In this session, led by [Tom Molnár](https://www.linkedin.com/in/tamas-molnar-57902919/) we'll unpack the **6 misunderstood PO stances** — the anti-patterns that quietly erode value — and contrast them with the **6 effective stances** that make a Product Owner truly impactful.
**What we'll cover:**
❌ **Misunderstood stances (anti-patterns):**
* **Clerk** — just adds everything to the backlog, no vision or decisions
* **Story Writer** — focuses only on writing user stories
* **Project Manager** — focuses on deadlines and output instead of value
* **Manager** — manages people instead of the product
* **Subject Matter Expert** — gets lost in detailed expertise
* **Gatekeeper** — becomes a bottleneck; everything goes through them
These aren't value-creating behaviors — they're distortions of the role.
✅ **Effective stances:**
* **Visionary** — defines a clear product vision and goals; focuses on the future
* **Collaborator** — actively works with the team and stakeholders
* **Customer Representative** — brings in user needs; explains the "why"
* **Decision Maker** — makes fast decisions → faster time-to-market
* **Experimenter** — thinks in hypotheses; validates instead of assuming
* **Influencer** — creates alignment across the organization
A good PO isn't just one of these — it's a combination of all.
🎯 **Key takeaway:** According to Scrum, the PO's goal is to maximize value. Many organizations misunderstand this. The goal is to recognize when you slip into a bad stance and shift back.
**Who should attend:** Product Owners, Scrum Masters, agile coaches, engineering leads, and anyone working with or alongside POs who wants to raise the bar on how the role is understood and practiced.

Building Scalable Customer Identity Resolution Pipelines on AWS Using AI
Customer identity resolution becomes increasingly complex as organizations scale across multiple systems, regions, and data formats. Traditional rule-based approaches often fail to keep up with data variability, require constant manual tuning, and struggle with real-time processing needs.
This session presents a practical approach to building a scalable identity resolution pipeline using AWS services and modern AI techniques. The architecture combines data ingestion through Amazon S3 and AWS Glue, transformation pipelines using Spark on EMR, and machine learning models deployed via SageMaker for entity matching and standardization. Graph-based relationship modeling is implemented using Amazon Neptune to improve resolution accuracy by incorporating household and shared attribute context.
We will walk through how machine learning models can be used for name and address normalization, how intelligent blocking strategies improve matching efficiency, and how feedback loops can be introduced to continuously improve accuracy. The session also highlights how serverless components such as AWS Lambda can be used for orchestration and real-time processing.
