Exploring the Sky at Rock Creek Park (Free)
Exploring the Sky at Rock Creek Park (Free)
Join National Capital Astronomers Volunteers as we organize a public stargazing outreach event at Rock Creek Park! Astronomers will set up telescopes for viewing at **9:00 pm**. There will be telescopes available at **9:00pm** for stargazing, however **if it is cloudy or rainy, Exploring the Sky/Stargazing events will be canceled (we will send cancellation notifications out.)** Exploring the Sky is a joint program between the National Capital Astronomers and the National Park Service Rock Creek Park Nature Center and has been run since 1948 at this location, the field at the corner of Glover and Military Roads in the District. There is an adjacent parking lot (link shown below). It is free and all are welcome who have an interest in observing the heavens. Rock Creek Park Nature Center is two minutes walk away from the observing field, so you can either park at the Nature Center or the parking lot below. **Parking lot location:** https://maps.app.goo.gl/nFgvpFi1NHEtEFur9 **NPS Event site:** https://www.nps.gov/planyourvisit/event-details.htm?id=8D39D019-DF6E-665C-40FD9737BB2AA16C **NCA site:** https://capitalastronomers.org/ Targets: Moon, Venus, Leo, Bootes, Hercules, M13, Beehive
Stars, Planets, and Snacks
Stars, Planets, and Snacks
I am finally scheduling the astronomy outing! Join us in attending the June "Exploring the Sky" event, a joint program between the National Capital Astronomers and the National Park Service. We will talk, eat snacks, look at items in the sky, and maybe play simple boardgames. This month, Mercury, Venus, Jupiter, and the Moon are all aligning near each other in the sky. We will probably see at least one planet, and if we are lucky we will even see these in a row. Come on time for the best chance to see this. The event may be canceled if the weather does not look accommodating. The location is the field by Picnic Grove #13 off of Glover Road, and can be reached by either public transportation plus walking or by coming by car as there is a parking lot, there. This link is the easiest way to find it: https://maps.app.goo.gl/BPrLLp8F4u2tjiTd7
June 21 Invasive Plant Removal at TRI
June 21 Invasive Plant Removal at TRI
We are NPS Weed Warriors and Arlington Regional Master Naturalists and you should volunteer with us on Sunday, May 17 to learn about nature and remove invasive plants from everyone's favorite urban island. Meet us at the entrance to the bridge (on the parking lot side, look for the sign) at 10:00 and bring your garden gloves and loppers/pruners if you have them. If not, we can provide gloves and tools. Wear long sleeves and pants and don't forget a water bottle. We will have tasks ranging from easy (cutting English ivy and honeysuckle vines from trees) to hard (sawing down bush honeysuckle). Parking at TRI can be tight if it's a pretty day. When the parking lot is full, you can park in Rosslyn and take the trail down. If you can bike or walk or take public transit, that's wonderful. We'll see you there! Erica, Stephanie, and Heidi P.S. If you can't wait until then to RIP (Remove Invasive Plants!), go here to find more volunteer opportunities in Arlington parks: [Volunteer to Restore Native Habitat – Arlington Regional Master Naturalists (armn.org)](https://armn.org/volunteer-opportunities/)

Rather than homing in on your breath or repeating a mantra, you simply focus inward, on your heart, to cultivate inner strength and serenity. Heartfulness meditation is gaining traction in recent years. It focuses on the heart, allowing individuals to connect with themselves on a deeper level, and ultimately achieve peace, relaxation, and clarity. It is a practice that encourages patience, self-compassion, and acceptance, helping cultivate a deeper appreciation for the present moment. This practice is offered with love and at no cost

How to Take Control of YOUR Mental Health
How to Take Control of YOUR Mental Health
It’s time to take control of your mental health. How do you get rid of stress, anxiety and uncertainty? These emotions are buried deep in your reactive mind. Find out what the reactive mind is, and in the process find yourself. Here is the secret of being positive and free: Thinking positively is not enough. You also have to get rid of the negative thinking. Your mind is like a garden. You can plant many beautiful flowers in it, but if you don't get rid of the weeds when you plant your flowers, the weeds will soon take over the whole garden. A positive thought is like a flower in your mental garden, and a negative thought is like a weed. You cannot expect to have a positive mindset if you continue to have negative thoughts dwelling and growing there. So, how do you get rid of the negative thoughts? That's what this Meetup is all about. Attend this local meeting and find out! The Meetup event will be led by a consultant who had helped many people live happier in life. Be sure to click on the red "Attend" button below to come to this local event. We look forward to seeing you there. This group is created by the Dianetics & Scientology life improvement center.
