Capoeira
Capoeira (capo-way-ra) is an Afro-Brazilian martial art that is unlike any other martial art. Capoeira incorporates flowing movements with kicks, dodges, and some acrobatics. It is often mistaken for a dance for those reasons. Since it’s origins in the 17th century, it has evolved from a secret fighting practice into an art emphasizing self-expression and community celebration. It is great for the body and mind! In addition to gaining strength and flexibility in class, students learn about Brazilian culture, history, and language (Portuguese). On November 26, 2014 capoeira was granted a special protected status as "intangible cultural heritage” by UNESCO.

Silver Spring Co-ed Pickup Soccer
Pick-up co-ed soccer Wednesday 6:30 PM- 08:00 PM. Please join our longstanding soccer game at Indian Spring Terrace Local Park, 9717 Lawndale Dr, Silver Spring, MD 20901-3025. We play on the fields behind the Silver Spring YMCA. There is parking at the back of the YMCA or on Fairway Avenue, which runs by the side of the field that we use.
The games are friendly and as safe as possible (no slide tackling). Ages range from 15 years old to 65. Skill level is average to good.

Although an RSVP is always appreciated, new members need not RSVP to join the game. The games are always on, unless bad weather. We have a core group of regular players who do not use the meetup app so please don't judge whether there is a game or not by the number of sign-ups on meetup.
Wakefield Park To Lake Accotink (Rating: D)
You must read the following NVHC Sign-in Sheet Statement/Liability Disclaimer, [https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf](https://nvhc.com/signin.pdf) and then answer the question that you will see when you RSVP with "I accept" to be permitted on the hike.
This is a relatively flat five-mile hike with two short hills, elevation gain is 50 feet. Hiking pace while moving is about 2-2.5 miles an hour. Part of the trail is paved. Sneakers or hiking boots, can be some mud on the trail. Bring water and, if you like, a snack. Great hike for a beginning hiker. We stop midway for a snack. Please arrive a few minutes early to take attendance.
No park entry fee.

DETAILS/DIRECTIONS: We will start near the first ballfield as you enter Wakefield Park, which is the first left (following a service road) after you drive off of Braddock Road into Wakefield Park. We will meet just off the parking lot for the ball fields, on the left side. Restrooms at this parking lot should be open. There also are restrooms 1/4 mile further down the park road at the Audrey Moore Recreation Center. We will walk to and around Lake Accotink with a stop about halfway at the marina where there are restrooms and water sources. Good place for a snack, if you want to bring one.

As You Are is a relaxed queer bar/café located in south-east dc halfway between capitol hill and navy yard. It's easy to get to via metro; the Eastern Market stop(Orange/Silver/Blue lines) is one block away! Parking, as with almost everywhere in dc, is very limited, so public transit or carpooling is recommended.
This is not a 21+ only event, though there is a bar with drinks and food available, as well as a game room attached to the upstairs event room. Please check out the bar and get some good eats! They're very cool 🙂 \*\*PLEASE NOTE\*\* As You Are is 21+ after 9pm
Fursuits are allowed and very much encouraged, we(Mort) will be taking pictures of all the fun going on 😄
Unfortunately, the upstairs part of the venue is not wheelchair accessible, although the café space downstairs is.

Take a break from your screens and join us for an evening of conversation, creativity, and connection at Upside on Moore food hall in Arlington, Virginia.
We'll have adult coloring sheets, cards, and simple games available.
Feel free to bring a craft project — sketching, knitting, crocheting, or anything portable — or a light, easy-to-learn board game to share.
You're also welcome to simply grab a drink or dinner and enjoy the conversation *without engaging in any activities*. Food, coffee, cocktails, and more are available from the many vendors at Upside on Moore food hall.

Last Fridays at the Farm - Neurodivergent Therapists & Holistic Healers
This is a peer support group for neurodivergent and neuro-affirming therapists and other healers in the mental health and somatic spaces. We'll meet the last Friday We'll have opportunities to socialize and grow our professional referral base in a fun, outdoor (and indoor when needed) environment. It's held on a goat farm in Silver Spring, MD so yes, you'll definitely get to be goofy around and with goats!
Feel free to bring virtual and paper business cards and a snack to share if you choose to. There's a $35 fee per group which goes to cover the cost of nonalcoholic beverages and snacks. Feel free to bring a guest for free.
I'll get us started with a brief ice-breaker activity or I might just pick a willing volunteer to help.

Free In-Person Events: How to Let Go of the Past and Move Forward
The emotional pain from past bad experiences easily lingers in the present, making it hard to enjoy life and create your future. Even when you think you've moved on, the negative emotions can be triggered, sending you back into the pain of that experience.
And we are talking about pain; emotions such as grief, depression, anxiety, fear (or terror), boiling anger, simmering resentment, feelings of shame, blaming and regret can leave you incapacitated to a greater or lesser degree.
In this local event we will be discussing the reasons why these past bad experiences have the power to affect you long after they occurred. We'll go over why the emotional pain can be so strong. We'll also discuss some simple solutions to overcome your emotional pain and be free to fully enjoy your life again.
Examples of painful experiences include:
* A broken relationship or divorce.
* Death or loss of a loved one.
* Death of a pet.
* A sudden shock or bad news.
* A betrayal.
* Being part of an abusive relationship.
* A bad injustice.
* Loss of a job, position or business.
* A grave illness or injury.
The negative emotions from these experiences don't just go away on their own. But the good news is there is a way to clear them out of your way.
