🍷 Wine and Read : Los santos inocentes 📖🐦
The Holy Innocents*, Miguel Delibes **📖 Set in rural Extremadura in the 1960s, this Spanish masterpiece follows a peasant family bound to a feudal estate, enduring daily humiliation with quiet dignity. Delibes writes with a raw, poetic voice unlike anything else in Spanish literature. A devastating critique of class and power 🏚️ that stays with you long after the last page 💔. ✨ A true landmark of 20th century literature and one of the most important novels ever written in Spanish. 🎬** It also has a film! **The acclaimed 1984 adaptation by Mario Camus is the perfect watch after finishing the book. Come to the session ready to talk about both! 🍷 Join us at** [book bar bcn](https://www.thebookbarbcn.es/inicio) **for an evening of books, ideas, and good wine. No pressure. Just curious people and real conversation. 📚** Where to get the book? **You can buy it at any local bookshop, at Casa del Libro or on Re-Read bookshops. Prefer to borrow it? The** Biblioteca de Barcelona **has you covered for free. 💖

Summer Writers' Retreat by Girls Who Write
**✍🏻 Run away with the Girls Who Write club this summer and make time for your writing – this will be a long weekend to remember!** Barcelona in the summer is the vibe...however, it gets really touristy, hectic and sticky...Imagine getting away from it all to a beautiful secret mansion to focus on your writing, while everything else is being taken care of! A long weekend to slow down, put pen to paper whenever you want, read by the pool – and meet like-minded women who love writing as much as you do. **Whether you're visiting or a local, this is the creative escape you need this summer.** 🏡 We are gathering in a perfect secret spot in Barcelona: far away from all the noise, but close enough to the center in case you want to get in and out on your own. Our beautiful hillside mansion features AC, pool and sauna – and nine individual rooms perfect for resting. You'll feel like you're away in nature...while being two metro stops away from all the buzz :) Here, nothing will distract you from writing! **📚 What you'll be working on?** Whether you're exploring self-discovery through journaling, crafting a memoir, creating short stories or poetry, or finally bringing that long-planned book to life, I aim to offer you a safe, nurturing space to connect with your words and creativity. Dive into cherished childhood memories, share fascinating anecdotes from your life that could inspire a captivating story, or pour your deepest emotions onto the page and witness how your perspective transforms. I believe every woman is a natural-born storyteller, and every girl's life is a compelling book waiting to be written. **Let’s uncover yours!** *What to expect:* 📝 **Journaling Workshops**: Dive deep into your emotions, memories and experiences through guided journaling sessions, unlocking the power of self-expression and introspection under the guidance of Marusha, founder of [Girls Who Write](http://www.girlswhowrite.club/), [Naked Words](https://mashamozolevskaya.com/mynakedwords) and Barcelona Journaling Festival. 📚 **Writing buffet:** try creating a memoir, a profound dialogue, a book character based on a person dear to your heart *(even if you don't have any book in the works yet!)* and explore some controversial topics in a safe, supportive community. 🌅 Sunrise SUP at Barceloneta. The most magical thing you can do in the summer in Barcelona – watch the sun rising from the horizon and waking up the city, while gently rocking on the waves. It's safe and fun! You don't even need to know how to swim. Coffee Connections
Coffee Connections
A casual (but coordinated) coffee break to meet new friends, take a Zoom break, and get your AM caffeine fix. Stop by for a few minutes or stay the whole time. Bring a friend or wander in solo. Come for the coffee and company, or just bring a book to read while surrounded by other in-real-life, community-seeking humans. Come by every Friday, or just when you happen to be in town. Make it whatever you need it to be that week. It's not an \*event\* per se, but we hope these Friday meet-ups can become a fixture of the bookshop! Gathering spot will be in the downstairs area of the bookshop (near the Community Library). Coffee and tea are 1.50€ and can be purchased at the cash register upstairs. Find more info on our Instagram (@backstorybookshop) or website (www.backstorybookshop.com).

Bad Girls Book Club July 2026
Bad Girls Book Club July 2026
**Our July novel is: *Listen for the Lie* by Amy Tintera** **This month’s novel was named one of the best books of 2024. It’s a domestic thriller with crime, mystery, and murder, told from women’s perspectives. The story includes a detective, an unreliable narrator, and plenty of suspense. The book is 352 pages in print and 9 hours and 18 minutes on audiobook.** What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter? After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life. But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it. The truth is out there, if we just listen.

Shut Up & Write! Kingsdale Shopping Center
Greetings writers! Come down and join your fellow wordsmiths for one hour of uninterrupted writing time in the upper level of the Market District Supermarket in Upper Arlington. The main entrance of the shopping center opens onto stairs/elevator leading up to the 2nd floor cafe section where we will have a table displaying a sign with the Shut Up & Write logo. Writing is largely a solitary craft. Practicing with others in a community setting may be the thing you need to fire your own routine. We’ll meet on Wednesday evenings, starting the clock at 6:30, following a brief period of introductions. This is solid writing time and all inclusive. Any project is acceptable, be it fiction, non -fiction, work or homework assignment. All is welcome and will remain private to you. The market boasts a Starbucks, a full service bar and various affordable food options. Parking is plentiful, free Wifi is provided as well as outlets for charging your devices, though they are somewhat limited, so plan accordingly. Show up as early as you like, or stay late. This group tends to socialize some, both before and after the alloted time, but this is not mandatory to you. Feel free to come and go as you please and late arrivals are welcome. The cafe may be noisy on occasion so headphones/ earbuds are reccommended as you see fit. Please try to RSVP if possible so that we may grab enough seats for all—the venue can be busy at times. Feel free to message me privately wth any questions and/ or concerns you may have. Happy writing!
