Coffee Connections
A casual (but coordinated) coffee break to meet new friends, take a Zoom break, and get your AM caffeine fix.
Stop by for a few minutes or stay the whole time. Bring a friend or wander in solo. Come for the coffee and company, or just bring a book to read while surrounded by other in-real-life, community-seeking humans. Come by every Friday, or just when you happen to be in town. Make it whatever you need it to be that week. It's not an \*event\* per se, but we hope these Friday meet-ups can become a fixture of the bookshop!
Gathering spot will be in the downstairs area of the bookshop (near the Community Library). Coffee and tea are 1.50€ and can be purchased at the cash register upstairs. Find more info on our Instagram (@backstorybookshop) or website (www.backstorybookshop.com).
The Summer Book by Tove Jansson
**Join us in June for a book club discussion of The Summer Book by Tove Jansson, followed by coffee or drinks nearby.**
We’re welcoming the summer with this lovely classic by the beloved Finnish writer, illustrator, and artist Tove Jansson — a book full of warm days, island light, sea air, and slow conversations.
Published in 1972, The Summer Book is a tender and joyful novel about a young girl, her grandmother, and the island where they spend the summer together. Through short episodes, Jansson captures nature, childhood, aging, grief, freedom, and the bond between generations.
Come celebrate the beginning of longer days and warmer weather with us as we discuss this lovely book at Backstory Bookshop (downstairs). We’ll continue the evening with a casual get-together over coffee or drinks nearby.
New readers are always welcome!

**💌 Come write a love letter with us!**
Come sit with us on Carrer dels Petons, the Street of Kisses, and write a letter to someone special to you: a partner, a crush, a friend, your mum, your younger self, or someone you never quite found the words for 👀🌷
No writing skills needed, no need to be in love, just bring someone to mind, sit with us, and let the words come! We’ll share a few starting lines if you get stuck, but the letter is entirely yours. You can send it, keep it, hide it in a drawer, or burn it at the end. Your choice! 🕯️🌱
It’s also a sweet way to meet new people, share a creative moment, and be part of the Festival dels Petons during Festa Major de Barcelona!

✍️ ¡BCN Escribe estrena nuevo taller!

Writing Quick and Dirty
This meetup is for anyone—anyone at all—who enjoys playing around with words. You’ll be given a prompt (usually one word, such as “playground” or “shiver”) and time to express yourself in writing in response to it. Anything goes: prose, poetry, lists, letters, lyrics; any form which calls to you and demands expression.
After we have finished writing, you will be invited to share your piece with the group (totally optional, but the feedback can be fun).
The feedback (this is the only part with rules): Responses should be in the form of what stayed with you, what you remembered from the piece, what resonated with you. This is NOT a writing or craft class; there is no good or bad here. Critiques or suggestions miss the point. This is new, tender writing, and we honor it as such.
All writing is considered fictional. This is liberating for the writer, as you are free to write about literally anything and it will never be considered to be “about you.” The first person is always just a character.
Please bring your own writing equipment. It is helpful to come on time so you can hear the prompt and have enough time to write. Please buy a drink or snack from Charcha, our generous host.

**IMPORTANT:** ️️️As the weather has been a bit rainy in the last months, please notice the following️️️:
\- During the winter months and when the weather seems rainy\, I’ll be keeping the group size smaller\. This way\, if it rains\, we can comfortably move to a café together\.
\- If the weather is fantastic\, you’re very welcome to join us even if the participant limit has already been reached \(as long as you arrive on time because once the event starts I won't look at my phone to be fully present at the event\)\. However\, if it rains\, I will take the registered participants to a café nearby \(in case it rains before the event starts and you are a registered participants write to me on whatsapp so that I can send you the exact location\)\. Those who came but didn’t sign up are still very welcome to organize themselves\, choose another café\, and enjoy their own book discussions together\.
\- If you realize you can’t make it\, I kindly ask you to cancel your participation at least 1 hour before the event\. This really helps me offer the spot to someone else and avoids me traveling for nothing\, as I don’t live nearby\. Thank you so much for your understanding
\- In case we go to a café\, I ask everyone to please order at least one drink\. I don’t have any agreements with cafés—we simply want to be respectful guests\, avoid any issues\, and keep the option open to return to places we enjoy in the future\.

Bad Girls Book Club July 2026
**Our July novel is: *Listen for the Lie* by Amy Tintera**
**This month’s novel was named one of the best books of 2024. It’s a domestic thriller with crime, mystery, and murder, told from women’s perspectives. The story includes a detective, an unreliable narrator, and plenty of suspense. The book is 352 pages in print and 9 hours and 18 minutes on audiobook.**
What if you thought you murdered your best friend? And if everyone else thought so too? And what if the truth doesn't matter?
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.
But now the phenomenally huge hit true crime podcast "Listen for the Lie," and its too-good looking host Ben Owens, have decided to investigate Savvy’s murder for the show’s second season. Lucy is forced to return to the place she vowed never to set foot in again to solve her friend’s murder, even if she is the one that did it.
The truth is out there, if we just listen.
