Join us for a relaxed silent-reading session in a warm and welcoming café/bar. Bring your current read (or grab a new one!), settle in with a drink or snack, and enjoy an hour or two of calm, focused reading alongside fellow book lovers. 📖 No pressure, no agenda—just a peaceful moment to unwind, read, and maybe chat a little afterward. 😊 This group/event is an english-speaking one ( although the books don't have to be). We'll try to find a cozy and comfortable nook to settle into but we can't guarantee total silence. So if you are easily distracted by ambient noise, we recommend you bring a pair of noise canceling headphones 🎧😌 PS: The current café that hosts us every Saturday afternoon, requires a 5€ drink minimum
Mastery by Robert Greene
Mastery by Robert Greene
🌼 Somewhere in a park in Paris, we’ll sit down together and spend a bit of time with the first three chapters of ***Mastery* by Robert Greene**, a book about how people find their direction, often slowly and imperfectly, and grow into it over time. Let's enjoy the rhythm of spring, and take some time to exchange perspectives in a relaxed, open-minded atmosphere. It’s as much about the conversation as it is about the book, getting to know how others think, what resonates with them, and where views differ. ***Mastery*** is known for its clear, engaging writing and its mix of philosophy, psychology, and real-life stories. Greene looks at how people find their path, often in uncertain or unexpected ways, and how they develop their craft over time. For this gathering, we’ll stay with the first three chapters (and leave the rest for a second round). * **Discover Your Calling** * **Submit to Reality** * **See People as They Are** Each of these opens up space for reflection, not just on the book, but on our own experiences. The conversation can move naturally between what Greene writes and what it brings up for each of us: moments we’ve gone through, things we’re questioning, or perspectives that don’t quite match. It’ll be relaxed. Sitting in the grass, or on a bench, maybe with a coffee or something to share. No rigid structure, no pressure to speak if you don’t feel like it. Just a group of people taking the time to think and talk, together. 🌼 Goodreads reference: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13589182-mastery
The Leopard, by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa
The Leopard, by Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa
*The Leopard* (Italian: *Il Gattopardo*) is a novel by Italian writer Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, which chronicles the changes in Sicilian life and society during the Risorgimento. Published posthumously in 1958 by Feltrinelli, after two rejections by the leading Italian publishing houses Mondadori and Einaudi, it became the top-selling novel in Italian history and is considered one of the most important novels in modern Italian literature. In 1959, it won Italy's highest award for fiction, the Strega Prize. In 2012, The Guardian named it as one of "the 10 best historical novels". The novel was made into an award-winning 1963 film of the same name, directed by Luchino Visconti and starring Burt Lancaster, Claudia Cardinale and Alain Delon.

BOOKCLUB: My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell (round 2)
BOOKCLUB: My Dark Vanessa by Kate Elizabeth Russell (round 2)
Let's get together with a drink and discuss this book. Location to be confirmed soon :) Exploring the psychological dynamics of the relationship between a precocious yet naïve teenage girl and her magnetic and manipulative teacher, a brilliant, all-consuming read that marks the explosive debut of an extraordinary new writer. 2000\. Bright\, ambitious\, and yearning for adulthood\, fifteen\-year\-old Vanessa Wye becomes entangled in an affair with Jacob Strane\, her magnetic and guileful forty\-two\-year\-old English teacher\. 2017\. Amid the rising wave of allegations against powerful men\, a reckoning is coming due\. Strane has been accused of sexual abuse by a former student\, who reaches out to Vanessa\, and now Vanessa suddenly finds herself facing an impossible choice: remain silent\, firm in the belief that her teenage self willingly engaged in this relationship\, or redefine herself and the events of her past\. But how can Vanessa reject her first love\, the man who fundamentally transformed her and has been a persistent presence in her life? Is it possible that the man she loved as a teenager—and who professed to worship only her—may be far different from what she has always believed? Alternating between Vanessa’s present and her past, *My Dark Vanessa* juxtaposes memory and trauma with the breathless excitement of a teenage girl discovering the power her own body can wield. Thought-provoking and impossible to put down, this is a masterful portrayal of troubled adolescence and its repercussions that raises vital questions about agency, consent, complicity, and victimhood. Written with the haunting intimacy of *The Girls* and the creeping intensity of *Room*, *My Dark Vanessa* is an era-defining novel that brilliantly captures and reflects the shifting cultural mores transforming our relationships and society itself. Books & Coffee: Literature of Eastern Europe
Books & Coffee: Literature of Eastern Europe
Let's dive into the literature of Eastern Europe! One that carries some of the most powerful, witty, melancholic, and resilient stories ever written. This theme encompasses many of the works of Eastern European authors, some known and most unknown, from post-communist memoirs and political satire to novels, family histories, and modern fiction. The theme is to invite us to explore the voices, histories, and cultures of Eastern Europe through recommendation of the others and to talk about our most loved books within the theme. Bring along a favorite read, a recent discovery, or a longtime classic you’d love to share and discuss with the group. (Physical copies are always welcome for our little group photo tradition! 📚✨) (This is a themed book club, so there’s no required reading. Just come ready to talk, recommend, reflect, and discover new perspectives together. Discussions are in English.) P.S. I’ll reach out before the event to confirm attendance. Please cancel in advance if plans change so I can adjust the reservation accordingly. Merci\~ 🌹

Tense, intimate, and unforgettable, Kindred explores how the past refuses to stay buried. Looking forward to discussing with everyone! Welcome, readers! Our June read is ***Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible*** ***Voyage*** **by Alfred Lansing.** A work of nonfiction, and one of the most astonishing survival stories in history, we follow Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew after their ship is crushed by Antarctic ice. Stranded in one of the harshest environments on Earth, the men endure months of isolation, freezing temperatures, and near starvation—yet refuse to give up hope. Lansing brings their ordeal to life through vivid detail and firsthand accounts, capturing both the brutality of nature and the resilience of the human spirit. At its core, the story is a powerful testament to leadership, perseverance, and the unbreakable will to survive against impossible odds. Looking forward to discussing with everyone! We will meet at Zaftig Brewing Co in their event room in the back. We are welcome to bring in our own food, but **all** **drinks must be purchased at the bar.** Happy reading! 📖
