Seven sisters spectacular coastal hike, ending in picturesque East Dean
Seven sisters spectacular coastal hike, ending in picturesque East Dean
**This is a challenging hike with several options to shorten if needed.** Hike the Seven Sisters, the Chalk Cliffs of Sussex, one of the most scenic coastal regions in the south downs of England. **GRADE:** Intermediate / Challenging 23 km 13 miles 670m of ascent and approx 7 hrs hiking time without breaks. This is a spectacular coastal hike with breathtaking views of the dramatic chalk sea cliffs on the English Channel coast in south-east England, ending in East Dean, a beautiful South Downs village close to Beachy Head and Birlig Gap beach, where Sherlock Holmes went to retire! The name "Seven sisters", according to a legend, comes from seven sisters who lived on these limestone formations, each of them had a house between these hills. In fact there are now eight cliffs as an extra one has been created by coastal erosion. Starting in the pretty town of Seaford on the Sussex coast we follow the coastal path passing the Martello Tower and follow the Vanguard way to Seaford Head. We undulate along the sea cliffs to drop down to the Cuckmere Estuary and wildlife reserve, stopping for lunch at the cafe and visitor centre. Later we join the South Downs Way and enter the Seven Sisters Country Park where a steep climb leads us to the trig point at Cliff End. From here we follow the cliff edge path over the Seven Sisters cliff to Birlig Gap. After Birlig Gap there is a steady climb past Belle Tout, a former lighthouse, and onto the spectacular Beachy Head with possibly the finest views in Southern England. We then make our way inland towards East Dean picturesque village where we can finish our hike in a delightful old smugglers pub, before making our way back home! From East Dean we can take the bus, the Coaster 12/12A/12X service from East Dean Bus Shelter to Eastbourne. These buses are very frequent and operate up to every 10 minutes. Details can be found here: [Coaster 12X - Eastbourne - Brighton | Brighton & Hove Buses](https://www.buses.co.uk/services/BH/12X#disruptions). Journey time: 22 min and cost: approx £3. In Eastbourne there is a regular train service to London Victoria, every 30 minutes. **COST**: £10.00 organiser fee pay on RSVP **MEETING POINT & TIME**: 08:20 at Victoria station, in front of the main train ticket office. Second meeting point at 10:20 at Seaford station. **TRAINS**: Trains from London Victoria station. We will take the 08:54 to Seaford via Lewes, arriving at Seaford at 10:19 (journey time 1hr 25 min, 1 change at Lewes). We will return from Eastbourne. You can purchase group save tickets (minimum group of 3) or with Network railcard approx at approx £28, return train tickets for Eastbourne. **WALK STARTS**: 10:20 at Seaford station **WALK FINISHES**: Approx 18:00 at East Dean. We take the bus to Eastbourne and from there the train back to London. **Hike Leader**: Fofi This is a challenging hike with several options to shorten if needed. **What to bring**: packed lunch, snacks, water, suitable clothing, and hiking footwear. **Kit list**: click here (https://www.meetup.com/GO-London/pages/Kit_List%27s/) **Terms and conditions**: by signing up to a GO London event you are agreeing with our terms and conditions and participation statement. East Head - (16 or 8 miles)
East Head - (16 or 8 miles)
West Wittering is most famous for its sandy beach, and as popular a seaside venue as any within reach of the capital, with everything a visitor can hope for 😎🏖️ 82 years ago, this place was absolutely teeming - however the circumstances then were very different. On the anniversary of the momentous events that began from these shores in 1944, this walk heads to Wittering's memorial. East Head is only a stone's throw from the popular beach; yet must be walked to, which means the unspoiled dunes will be ours. https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/sussex/east-head If Wittering's beach proves too delightful for some, there is a bus that one can catch back to Chichester when the day is done. A couple of options for the return walk. Depending on numbers and logistics, the optimum would be via Bosham's historic harbour. It was from here in 1064 that Harold Godwinson sailed to Normandy, invoking a chain of events destined to culminate two years later. From Harold to Eisenhower, history resonates through these sands. TRAVEL 1\. Take the 9\.05 train from London Victoria to CHICHESTER\. CHEAPEST TRAIN TICKETS - £13.00 PER PERSON RETURN: By far the cheapest train fare is to purchase a Group DaySave which allows unlimited travel on Southern trains and for a group of four (£52) is £13 each. It is also possible to buy this ticket for two (cheaper) or three people. NB the ticket must be purchased at least three days before travel from Southern's website. The link is: [Buy DaySave Train Ticket | DaySave Train Ticket | Southern Railway](https://www.southernrailway.com/discounts-and-offers/daysave) Feel free to use this event page or the event chat to find fellow travellers for DaySave tickets Alternatively, an off peak day return ticket purchased on the day to CHICHESTER is £26.70 with a Network card or Groupsave which will cover all travel. WALK DETAILS Walk starts 10.40 AM from CHICHESTER station. Circular walk The 8 miles walk involves a Service 52 bus back to Chichester from West Wittering. Every 30 minutes (24 & 54 past hour) bus stop opposite the beach *How to join?* * The walk is entirely free of charge; * You only arrange for your own travel and pub expenses; * Understand our terms and conditions below (the "IMPORTANT" part); * Understand how to stay safe outdoors, as you will be responsible for yourself. See our quick safety tips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ Feel free to ask any questions in the comments section! IMPORTANT Please bear in mind this is a free of charge, self-guided trip with a hobby group. It is not organized by a business nor any entity with commercial purposes. Any trip details, travel advice, route planning, instructions and other content in our group merely represent our shared personal knowledge, research and suggestions as outdoor enthusiasts. As this is no business, there is no "product", "service" or "package" and also no "tour guide", "operator" or "walk leader". Each participant is responsible for their own safety. Even if some of us are very experienced walking outdoors, nobody assumes responsibility for any kind of injury, damage or loss that may happen. Despite this, we take extreme precautions and all trips we plan are very safe, fun, highly educational and popular. Our experienced members volunteer their time and effort to shape a pleasant and quality adventure for everyone :-) By participating you acknowledge and agree with this disclaimer. Here are our tips on staying safe during outdoor trips: http://www.meetup.com/Free-Outdoor-Trips-From-London/about/ TRAVEL, ACCOMMODATION, INSURANCE Although we provide detailed suggestions, each participant is expected to arrange their own travel and (if required) accommodation - this gives everyone the freedom and choice to join from wherever they want and stay wherever they want. Anyone interested in travel or outdoor insurance should also arrange this on their own. As mentioned above we always take extreme precautions, but some people may still feel safer if covered. We advise not to buy tickets until the day. People getting tickets from the same station are encouraged to meet early on the day to benefit from discounts such as GroupSave.

Bermondsey Beer Mile | ADHD Social | London | Everyone Welcome
Bermondsey Beer Mile | ADHD Social | London | Everyone Welcome
**Brews and Lose... Track of Time!** Bermondsey Beer Mile. Relaxed pace. Visit craft brewery tap rooms in ancient industrial London. It really is a lovely walk, lots of Victorian buildings, murals, art, etc. As with all our events, you **do not** need an ADHD diagnosis. Come as you are, meet nice, quirky people. We will attempt to visit several of the taprooms in a loosely sequential order. I strongly recommend having thirds or halves of a pint! Some of us will succeed. To keep you in sustenance, there will be assorted food places along the route. We start at [The Kernal Taproom,](https://share.google/c3sPrvF5jXxSsbwGJ) and finish up around London Bridge where... who knows what may happen next, **What will definitely happen:** - At least one person will show up to the wrong place - Someone will spend forty minutes reading the entire tap list and order a basic bitch Fosters/Carling - A conversation will begin, go completely off-piste, and never return to the original point - Someone will announce they're leaving and still be there an hour later - We will collectively lose track of time, money, and the thread of at least six conversations **What will probably not happen:** - Not everyone arriving on time - Leaving when we said we would - Remembering what the plan was - But we will try. **Directions:** Meet at [The Kernal taproom ](https://share.google/c3sPrvF5jXxSsbwGJ) preferably at 12, before the rush. FULL - Social Walk, Games & Pub Trip | Battersea Park
**It's landed. Another Sunday and we’ve got your weekend sorted again with a special summer Social Walk and Pub trip - exclusively for 20s and 30s.** For our latest Sunday walk, we’ll be visiting hiking from Vauxhall to Battersea Park, in south-west London 🌳 Before heading off on the hike, as always - you'll be allocated a group for a mix of light-hearted games to help you break the ice and get to know your fellow walkers a little better before we set off. After the games and once everyone is warmed up for the walk, we’ll set off on our 2–3 hour stroll from Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens. From there, we’ll take a scenic route along the River Thames, enjoying views of the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and the London Eye, before continuing downriver past Battersea Power Station. We’ll then cross into Battersea Park to explore its beautiful lakes and subtropical gardens, and wander past the famous Peace Pagoda 🧘 As always, we will then finish up at a nearby pub where you can grab a drink, rest your legs and get to know your fellow hikers a bit better. It should be another great summer afternoon stroll - although, as always, we will be having to cap numbers for this event so do make sure you nab your place as soon as you can! **\- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \-** **WHERE/WHEN WE WILL MEET** Meet Point - Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens, London, SE11 5HL (Exact Location: [https://maps.app.goo.gl/dyNNQ3aoBZKdsFuMA](https://maps.app.goo.gl/dyNNQ3aoBZKdsFuMA)) Closest stations: Vauxhall (5 min walk), Pimlico (15 min walk) Destination: The Magic Garden, Battersea Meet Time - 2:00pm Finish time: 5:00pm (approx) Pub Finish time: 6:30pm-7:30pm (Approx) **\- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \- \-** **JOIN THE COMMUNITY** Set up in November 2021, the project was set up to help young adults meet, connect and hopefully build life-long friendships. Thames Foreshore Visit - Rotherhithe! (Full Members only)
Thames Foreshore Visit - Rotherhithe! (Full Members only)
Running through the heart of London; the River Thames has played a central role in the history of the city, and when the tide is low, the capital’s longest archaeological site is revealed. Come along on Sunday 7th June to explore London’s dynamic history... **About the foreshore** I will be your guide as we will be going down to the Thames foreshore at low tide, where we will have about 1h 30mins to have a look around for objects before the tide comes in. I will tell you more about foreshore, the industry in the area and will be on hand to identify and date objects you find. Most objects you can spot sitting on the foreshore after being washed in on the tide (we are not allowed to dig or scrape the foreshore surface). You will find everything from bits of pottery, clay pipes, bottles, animal bones to ship items. Most of the things we find are from the Medieval to the Victorian period or you might be lucky and find something Roman or older. The foreshore at Rotherhithe was where lots of ships were dismantled, so you will see lots of ships nails, ships timbers and items related to the people carrying out the dismantling. The foreshore is very stony, so please wear sensible shoes (preferably walking boots/shoes or wellington boots). Plastic gloves and bags will be provided. **Cost** This is for Full Members of the group only and will be free. **Become a Full Member** To become a Full Member (£14 a year), either: \- Pay cash at an event \- Pay via Bank Transfer \(TSB Bank plc\, Sort code: 77\-66\-65\, Account no: 00030809\, Account name: Cultureseekers) \- Pay via credit card on the day or in advance \([https://pay.sumup.com/b2c/QLAX8AUI](https://pay.sumup.com/b2c/QLAX8AUI)) \- go to PayPal \- [https://www.paypal.com/uk/](https://www.paypal.com/uk/), then click on 'Pay & Get Paid‘, then click on 'Send Money’, put in the email address: [general@cultureseekers.org](mailto:general@cultureseekers.org) in the 'Send Money' box, then 'Next' and then enter the amount to pay. As per the conditions of my group permit, you will need to be present for this, if you are late, I won't be able to accommodate you.** **Afterwards** After, we will head to 'Mr Cappuccino coffee shop', 190 Jamaica Road for a chat over a drink. Please note, we only wait at the meeting point for 10 minutes after the advertised meeting time, so please be on time or early. If you can't see us outside the station, please text. Shenandoah River Adventure: Ft. Stover to Compton Rapid Overnight Paddle
Shenandoah River Adventure: Ft. Stover to Compton Rapid Overnight Paddle
The South Fork of the Shenandoah is a flowing mountain river, in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley, legendary for its canoeing excellence. Join us for two nights of camping at Golden Rock Campground at Compton Rapid (the prettiest spot on the river) and two days of paddling. We will drive to the campsite and spend Friday night there. The campground is primitive, which means no showers, no dedicated campsites, and lots of natural beauty. We will look out for eagles flying overhead or in their nests, and otters playing in the creek on the upper end of the campground. Next morning the Outfitter will shuttle us up the river to start our kayaking trip. After a fun day of paddling we will be back at the camp site to spend another night outdoors. We will wrap up our trip the next day with another 4 hours of paddling before we head back to our cars. Kayaks will be provided, but you would need to bring your own camping gear and meals including a tent, sleeping pad and a sleeping mat. **After you complete your registration on our website, you will receive a confirmation email with additional event details and event location.** There is limited space, so please register early. **Register and pay for this event on our website at this link**: https://washingtonwomenoutdoors.org/event-6658739 **Find out about WWO Member benefits at this link**: https://washingtonwomenoutdoors.org/Membership
