Get out, explore and enjoy London's abundant green spaces and surprising surrounding countryside. Give up the city streets for a day and breathe some fresh air. Improve your overall fitness levels and make some new friends at the same time.
Social Event:
Our walks are social walks, where the emphasis is on meeting new people, enjoying nature, healthy exercise, and fresh air. Our walks are not interrupted with running commentaries or historical lectures, although occasionally features of significance may be pointed out. As such our walks will be continuous with few stops and it is your responsibilty to keep walkers ahead in view and to follow the direction of the walk. We always end the walk at a pub where the socialising can continue.
Take this opportunity to visit green parts of London, unknown to most people, and that you would not otherwise have an opportunity to see.
RISKS:Please dress appropriately for weather conditions and carry a bottle of water and necessary medication. You need to be moderately fit for this walk and be able to walk for four miles without a break. In these walks we use; pavements, cross busy roads, public parkland, towpaths alongside water, other public paths, and tracks through woodland and countryside. Please only wear good sturdy shoes, trousers are recommended, and take care as surfaces may be uneven, and some paths are also used by joggers and cyclists. Be wary of portruding tree roots and low overhanging branches. If you require insurance for these walks then you must arrange this yourself.
No large dogs or small children please.
Please arrive in good time to allow opportunity to use toilets at the start of the walk as there may not be any toilet breaks available during the walk.

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
If you crave depth and genuine connection, join a walking think tank of curious people, topics spark meaningful conversations, and you leave inspired.
## Details
[The Board Walks](http://www.theboardwalks.com/) are for curious people who love deep conversations.
If that sounds like you, **bring a thoughtful topic** and join us for a 5-mile walk (10,000+ steps!).
**HOW IT WORKS**
**Step 1: Bring a topic**
Before you arrive, think of **one** topic you want to explore. A question. A thought that's been on your mind. An obsession you want to geek out on. This is your ticket to the event.
**Step 2: Circle up & share**
We gather in a circle. Your friendly walk host gives a speech to set the tone. Everyone shares: your name, what you're grateful for, and your topic. That's it. 60 seconds.
**Step 3: Walk, talk & float**
We walk 5 miles. You naturally drift into conversation with 2-3 people at a time, pulled by topics that spark your curiosity. When you're ready to move on, just say: "I'm going to float!"
**Step 4: Feel more alive**
Two hours flies by. You're back where you started — but you feel different. More alive. More energized. More connected to yourself and others. That's why regulars join 20+ times.
*For more details, read our [Orientation Guide.](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation)*
**HOW TO BRING A GREAT TOPIC**
A great topic = something you're genuinely curious about.
Recent topics include:
* "What are you passionate about right now?"
* "What makes a good friend?"
* "What's a belief you used to hold that you've completely changed?"
* "How do you want to be remembered?"
* "What would you do if money wasn't a factor?"
Think of your topic like the dish you're bringing to our conversational potluck. If everyone brings an A+ dish (i.e. energizing, uplifting, expansive), we'll all walk away feeling lighter and brighter.
**WHAT TO EXPECT**
This isn't a fitness event with casual chitchat. It's a walking think tank where we explore life's big questions together, beyond small talk. *If you're looking for light banter or a standard networking event, this probably isn't the right fit.*
But if you crave depth, genuine connection, and conversations that make you feel alive? You'll love it here.
**FAQ**
* Wear casual athletic attire and sneakers. It's a long walk!
* We have multiple first-timers at each event. We work hard to create a welcoming, inclusive, clique-free space.
* We welcome people of **all** ages, backgrounds, and industries who align with the [intention](https://www.theboardwalks.com/ground-rules) of this space.
* Rain or shine, we've been out here nearly every week since July 2022. If the event is cancelled, we'll let you know.
* Dogs, babies in strollers, parents, and friends are welcome — please text/email them the event link so they can RSVP and prepare a topic!
**LOGISTICS**
* If you'll arrive over 10 minutes late, we suggest skipping the event. It's hard to find us once we start walking, and your host can't answer messages during the event.
* This walk is designed for everyone to *move together at the same steady pace* (about 20 min/mile). This format works best when the whole group moves in unison. If you have mobility limitations, we kindly encourage you to find an event better suited to your needs.
* Read our [Orientation Guide](https://www.theboardwalks.com/orientation) for full details.
* If you enjoy the event, send **[this](http://www.theboardwalks.com/)** to a friend or sign up for our **[newsletter](https://theboardwalks.beehiiv.com/)**. We're in multiple cities with more on the way. 🤠👋

Folkestone → Deal Coastal Traverse (27k)
We are taking on 18 miles along one of the most beautiful stretches of coastline in the UK. Think sea air, big open views, quiet chats as we walk, and that steady rhythm you only get on a long hike.
It is not just about the distance - it is about the experience.
The moments where the group spreads out, then comes back together.
The snack breaks that somehow taste better by the sea.
That feeling when your legs are tired, but your head feels clear.
**The plan:**
Distance: 18.5 miles
Difficulty: Hard
Time: 8–9 hrs
Train tickets: purchase off-peak return to do Dover Priory with national rail card.
Sea views + cliffs + iconic Kent coastline
We will start in Deal and follow the coast towards the cliffs, moving at a steady, social pace. There will be time to pause, take it in, and enjoy it — no rush, no pressure, just a shared challenge.
By the end, you’ll have walked 18 miles, met some great people, and probably feel a little different than when you started (in a good way).
**Bring:**
* Comfortable walking shoes / boots
* Water and snacks
* Weather-appropriate clothing
**⚠️ Important: Refund Policy & Weather Notice**
This hike runs rain or shine. No refunds are available, but spots can be transferred with 48 hours’ notice.
Are you in? Spaces are limited - RSVP now!

Amberley to Worthing – South Downs backcountry paths & Cissbury Ring
**WHAT TO EXPECT - HIKING INFO**
Distance: **25km** (c. 15 miles)
Ascent: c. **585m**
Estimated Duration (approx): **7 hours walking (moderate pace 4km/hr)**
Difficulty: **Energetic**
**HIGHLIGHT**
· Great views from Amberley Mount and Rackman Hill
· Undulating paths over the downs heading south towards Worthing
· Slow ascents and descents on remote paths away from South Downs Way
· Visit the ancient and most historic hill fort in Sussex – The Cissbury Ring.
· Optional sea swim at the end!
**DESCRIPTION**
*This walk is on paths less travelled over South Downs rolling hills with fantastic views along the way. There is an optional sea swim at the end for those who want to cool off after a good day’s walk.*
This is a beautiful part of the south downs with fantastic views and rolling hills - and with some neolithic and bronze age history along our way.
We start our walk in Amberley as we head up our first hill onto the South Downs to Rackman Hill for fantastic views looking north towards the North Downs – hopefully we will have good views on the day.
We then head south over rolling hills and forlorn paths, meeting locals who know the less travelled parts of the south downs. I have chosen a route which meanders past other settlement hills and hopefully with views over to the sea. We pass Finden for a refreshment stop after 14km (no pub stops before then).
We then head over to Cissbury Ring – the oldest hill fort on the South Downs Way. It boasts much history - a neolithic flint mines, bronze age burial ground, iron age hill fort, a roman mint, a tudor vantage point before it was investigated archeologically by the Victorians. Then onto Worthing for a drink and a swim!
Option at this stage is to head back to London or go down to Worthing Pier and have a swim.
*ps. My walks make time to enjoy the views, take in local history, and look at interesting buildings along the way.*

LONDON: Epping Forest Centenary Walk: Wood Street to Connaught Water

Starting from Wood Street Station, we'll follow a green corridor that gradually leads us from the city into the ancient landscapes of Epping Forest. This 11 km circular hike takes us deep into the heart of Epping Forest, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and home to ancient woodlands, rich history, and thriving wildlife. We’ll follow peaceful trails through towering trees, along leafy paths, exploring some of the forest’s most fascinating landmarks. We'll pass:
* Amesbury Banks – an 11-acre Roman site with a visible high bank and ditch marking its outline
* Beautiful woodland paths, seasonal wildflowers, and a chance to enjoy the forest
* Occasionally we see wild deer, squirrels, kites, a variety of mushrooms, and other nature sights, but these are not guaranteed, the forest will decide!
**📏 Hike Details**
* Distance: 11 km (circular)
* Max elevation: 269 m
* Estimated duration: 3-4 hours (excluding breaks)

Walk & Talk About Life's Big Questions
**IF YOU WANT TO GO DEEPER...**
