Discuss & Socialize 🍷 Racism between expats: causes and solutions
London is home to many international professionals and students. But things aren't always rosy between them - sometimes we notice prejudice and discrimination coming from other expats/internationals, too. Have you ever felt judged or excluded by other expats/internationals? Wondered if you’ve unintentionally judged or excluded someone else? In this session, we'll discuss...
\- our experiences of exclusion and prejudice from other expats\.
\- the possible causes and solutions to this particular form of racism\.
\- discuss how to build more empathy and connection broadly\!
*Join us for a relaxed group conversation where we explore the real life, the grey areas, and how our different cultures and backgrounds shape our views about key topics.* *Expect real talk, no judgment, and a chance to hear how others see it.*
**\*Come for the discussion, stay for the friendships. Our weekly discussion series brings together thoughtful people for honest conversations on relationships, life, and society—with warm social vibes before and after.\***
**WHAT TO EXPECT:**
* Good vibes only: we chat big topics in a chill, respectful way. No arguing - just open-minded exchange.
* We warm up with casual socializing (come solo or with friends!)
* The topic starts around 7:45/8pm, wraps around 9:30.
* 🍕 There's pizza, drinks, milkshakes and snacks available at the bar (incl plant-based options)
* And most people stay until late for drinks and mingling!
**DISCUSSION FORMAT:**
**Our group conversations are open and flexible - there is a very soft guided flow to ensure we focus on the main questions, and to ensure that everyone gets a balanced opportunity to speak. Here's a typically structure, but we adjust on the day depending on the turnout:**
\- Introductions and thoughts *(\~5 mins).*
\- Group breakouts per question *(\~20 mins x 3).*
\- Final round of opinions *(\~10 mins)*.
\- Mix and mingle\, make new friends\, get drinks etc *(\~until late)*
**EVENT ETIQUETTE (Rules & expectations)**
\- Debate the topic\, not the participants \- no personal attacks\!
\- No phones\, no interrupting\, no bystanding
\- Always follow the moderator/host instructions and guidelines

French pronunciation and phonemics workshop £10 per hr
French Pronunciation and Phonetics Workshop
This workshop is designed for learners who wish to acquire a clear and systematic understanding of French pronunciation. Many beginners find French phonetics challenging, particularly the nasal vowels and other sound patterns that differ significantly from English. This session aims to address these difficulties through structured, research-informed instruction.
Participants will be introduced to the principles of standard French phonetics, with a specific focus on the official International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) symbols used to represent French sounds. The workshop will cover the articulation of French vowels, nasal sounds, and consonants, as well as practical strategies for accurate pronunciation and word reading.
Through guided practice and targeted exercises, learners will develop greater confidence and precision in producing French sounds. The session is suitable for complete beginners as well as learners seeking to improve their phonetic awareness.
Materials: Participants are requested to bring a pen and a piece of paper.

This is your excuse to slow down, grab a coffee, and meet new people, all before sunset. No loud music, no dress code, just good vibes, nice chats, and the perfect way to break the routine midweek.
Every month we meet in a different café: always a cool spot, sometimes with coffee beans from faraway places, sometimes with that perfect matcha or chai. It’s like a little trip without leaving the city, through flavours, stories, and new faces around the table.
✨ **Why join?**
– Enjoy cafés with a little twist
– Meet people in a chill, no-pressure setting
– Do something different with your afternoon
📌 **How it works:**
– We reveal the café **the day before via WeMeet**
– You usually spend around £4-8 (unless you go wild on cake)
– **Virtual** **host:** you're the main characters of the evening
An easy plan for curious minds (and caffeine lovers).
How Your Past Experiences Can Negatively Affect You
Description: Join us for an enlightening lecture that delves into the intricate web of the past and its potential to cast a long shadow over our present lives. In this thought-provoking session, we will explore the profound ways in which the past can negatively impact our well-being, choices, and personal growth.
Throughout history, human lives have been shaped by a multitude of experiences, both positive and negative. These experiences accumulate, leaving imprints on our memories and shaping our beliefs, attitudes, and behaviors. While the past holds valuable lessons and cherished memories, it can also harbor unresolved conflicts, traumas, and limitations that subtly influence our present reality.
During this lecture, we will navigate the labyrinth of psychological and emotional baggage that may accumulate over time, inhibiting our personal development and impeding our ability to lead fulfilling lives. By examining the effects of the past on various aspects of our existence, we will gain a deeper understanding of how it can manifest in detrimental ways.
Through engaging discussions, case studies, and real-life examples, we will explore the following topics:
1. The Power of Unresolved Trauma: We will delve into the profound impact of unresolved traumatic experiences and how they can subtly shape our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. By shedding light on the intricate mechanisms behind these effects, we can begin to dismantle their hold on our lives.
2. Inherited Baggage: Examining the intergenerational transmission of pain, beliefs, and patterns of behavior, we will explore how our ancestors' experiences can unconsciously influence our lives. By recognizing and addressing this inherited baggage, we can break free from destructive cycles and chart our own path.
3. Limiting Beliefs and Self-Sabotage: Uncovering the deeply ingrained beliefs and narratives that stem from past experiences, we will explore how they can become self-fulfilling prophecies, stifling our potential and sabotaging our aspirations. By challenging these beliefs, we can reclaim our personal power and reshape our narratives.
4. Breaking Free: Strategies for Healing and Transformation: This segment will offer practical tools and techniques for healing past wounds, releasing emotional burdens, and cultivating resilience. We will explore approaches such as therapy, mindfulness, self-reflection, and forgiveness to facilitate the process of letting go and embracing personal growth.
By the end of this lecture, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the profound influence the past can exert on their lives and how to break free from its negative impact. Armed with newfound knowledge and practical insights, they will be empowered to embark on a transformative journey towards self-discovery, healing, and the creation of a brighter future.
Note: This lecture is open to all individuals seeking personal growth and a deeper understanding of the psychological and emotional factors that shape their lives. No prior knowledge or experience is required, only an open mind and a willingness to explore the depths of the past.

We want to completely change that: World Citizens proactively designs event systems for everyone to enjoy a safe and pleasant evening.*

Canal Walk - Angel to Victoria Park Cafe / Market
We will enjoy a leisurely walk (approx 45 mins - 1 hour) along Regent's Canal from Angel station and ending at the fabulous Victoria Park Market. This event usually runs on the 4th Sunday of each month, unless there is bad weather or exceptional circumstances.
There is a wondering food market in Victoria Park, and most of us will get something to eat together. We usually sit on the grass or public benches (if available) near the Bonner Gate entrance, behind the Dogs of Alcibiades statue. This is at the intersection of foodstalls running north/south and east/west. If it is raining or the market is closed, we can either go to the Pavillion cafe, or The Crown pub on Grove Road instead.
WE WILL WAIT ONLY ABOUT 10 MINUTES AFTER THE START TIME. If you are running late, please catch us up along the canal. Please note, I will not be checking for meetup or whatsapp messages after the walk starts.
We are a welcoming group, so feel free to mix around and say hello other people. You are responsible for yourselves on the walk, so please bring appropriate footwear etc. Please be mindful of those around you, especially where the canal gets narrow in places.
Whatsapp group here: https://chat.whatsapp.com/IJd6MJfVDPC6jUw6iW77ZY
Previously, there was a separate walk on the 3rd Sunday of the month, which started at Limehouse Basin, and then ran along the same canal to Victoria Park. Please note, the walks starting from Limehouse on the 3rd Sunday of the month are now cancelled for the foreseeable future.
Female-only Lesbian Meet & Mingle
A weekly in-person night for drinks and conversation.
This is a relaxed evening for chatting, meeting new women, and building real connections. Women come from their 20s to their 60s – some brand new, some regulars. It is usually half new members and half returning, so you will never feel like the only newcomer. Most arrive solo, and we make sure you will not feel it.
If you are nervous, the WhatsApp group is the best place to start. Many women join there first, so by the time they come along they already recognise a few names. It is also used for daily chat between events, which makes it easier to feel part of things straight away.
Table booking is under the name Jenny.
**Register for the Event**
You must sign up to attend: [thelcommunity.com/events/lesbian-offline-nights](www.thelcommunity.com/events/lesbian-offline-nights)
**Join the Network**
Private WhatsApp group: for full members only. Free to join when you [Become a Member](https://thelcommunity.com/register/)
**Support the Case**
We are building the UK’s first female-only lesbian venue. Southwark Council blocked our lawful application. We are now taking them to court in a landmark Equality Act test case. What happens here will decide whether councils across the UK can keep excluding women-only services, or whether they will finally be forced to obey the law.
