Saturday Run - 50 min (25 out and 25 back)
Saturday Run - 50 min (25 out and 25 back)
This Saturday lets run to the National Mall! We will start at Roosevelt Island at the crosswalk in the center of parking lot. (Note there is an alternative meeting spot, it is right on the Custis trail, on the North side of Gateway Park, near Langston Blvd and Lynn St; it will be clearly marked as the meeting spot if conditions are bad on a given Saturday. Ignore this unless told otherwise. Afterwards stay for coffee, we'll wander up to Rosslyn and either meet in Compass or, if the weather is nice enough, at the Plaza opposite the Metro. Note: Photos taken during the event may end up on Instagram, Meetup, Strava and similar platforms. LOCATION: Roosevelt Island Parking Lot. Use this map to locate the parking lot (https://www.google.com/maps/place/38%C2%B053'48.2%22N+77%C2%B004'02.1%22W) [GPS: 38°53'51.99"N 77° 4'3.24"W]. To help new people find the group, please meet in the middle of the parking lot. Please meet 10 min. before the start time. Alternative location, ONLY when indicated, on the Custis trail, on the North side of Gateway Park, near Langston Blvd and Lynn St: https://maps.app.goo.gl/3SNFYSkFv9rRQed37 PACE and MILEAGE: All paces are welcome! We'll be doing an out and back route, so everyone will just turn around at the halfway time marker. We generally average from 8-12 min/miles and run for fifty minutes. But, you can run any amount of time or mileage. And if you need to walk, it's not a problem either, everyone needs to start somewhere! ROUTE: The usual route is [https://onthegomap.com/s/7r0gvj5r](https://onthegomap.com/s/7r0gvj5r). It may vary occasionally. The full circuit works out to around 8:30 min/mile for a 50 minute run. Slower paces can turn around earlier, faster paces can run farther. PARKING: Use this map (http://bit.ly/i2dWD0) to find parking in Rosslyn. There are parking lots at Roosevelt Island and above the Continental Lounge. There are also meters and pay garages. DIRECTIONS: For those of you driving to Roosevelt Island, please note that the parking lot is only accessible from the NORTHBOUND lane of GW parkway. You will see it right after the Roosevelt Bridge. METRO: Orange or blue to Rosslyn. From N. Moore St, turn left; right onto 19th St; cross Lynn St. and turn left; take the trail on the right just before the Key Bridge.
NW Branch & Sligo Creek Trails, MD (strenuous) (ODH Training 10)
NW Branch & Sligo Creek Trails, MD (strenuous) (ODH Training 10)
We’ll do a circuit hike of 15.5 or 21.7 miles (you choose) along two of the prettiest Maryland suburban-DC stream valleys—**Northwest Branch** and **Sligo Creek**. The short version of the hike is difficult and the long version is difficult-er. We will proceed as a group for the first seven miles of both hikes, after which, you may hike at your own pace. This unusual, suburban wilderness hike will take you over natural-surface and paved trails, as well as a few stretches of sidewalk. The hike even includes some rock scrambling and sandy beaches, all with gentle elevation changes. Mud and/or ice on the trails have been known to occur. **[Photo albums](https://sites.google.com/view/wandering-soles/one-day-hike/training-hikes/nw-branchsligo-creek)** of previous versions of this hike. **MAPS & ROUTE NOTES:** See this **[folder](https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/13eoxioeq8uOAtpDM_TXJUqo2stk666pw?usp=sharing)** for hike handouts that include directions, route notes & maps, GPX files, and area information. Note that the park entrance for this location is at Orebaugh Avenue, off Arcola Avenue. Contact Mike (Mike.Darzi@Gmail.com) for a pick-up at a nearby Metro station. **WHAT TO BRING:** Bring food and drink (short hike, 2 qts; long hike, 3 qts); short hikers may also buy food along the way. You’ll proceed at your own pace and you may stop (or not) anytime to eat. This hike occurs rain or shine, cold or warm, so dress appropriately. However, in case of hazardous weather, please check here for last-minute changes before leaving for the hike. **LEADERS:** Mike Darzi (Mike.Darzi@Gmail.com) & Sean McCartney (SeanEMcCartney@Gmail.com) **SIERRA CLUB** You may join the Sierra Club by clicking the "JOIN" button at the top of the Virginia Chapter’s **[website](http://www.sierraclub.org/virginia)**. Day Hike - Raven Rocks (5.7 Miles) + Lark Brewing Co
Day Hike - Raven Rocks (5.7 Miles) + Lark Brewing Co
Alright people, it's 2026. Let's start the hiking season off with an easier classic - Raven Rocks. Raven Rocks is a short out-and-back section of the AT that ends with a stunning view. The terrain is very rocky (wear good shoes), but this hike should be relatively quick. Wear layers as the temps can change quickly this time of year. We will meet at Vienna Metro at 9AM and carpool to the trailhead. Drive time is about 45 mins - Please post a comment below if you are willing to drive. Carpooling saves the environment and makes friends. ## **Trail Facts** * **Difficulty Level:** Moderate * **Length:** 5.7 Miles * **Duration:** 4 hrs * **Elevation Gain:** 1,535 Feet * **Permits:** No * **Parking:** Vienna Metro Station South * **Dogs:** Allowed * **Trailhead Coordinates:** 39.116468, -77.852405 * **AllTrails Map**: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/virginia/raven-rocks-via-appalachian-trail **Trail Details:** This out-and-back hike is considered moderate, but some locals call it "the rollercoaster" due to it winding up and down over several ridges. The view from Raven Rocks is spectacular and worth going uphill both ways. Dogs are allowed on this trail (please use a leash). A note on parking - If you plan to be one of the drivers, the parking at the trailhead is very limited. If the lot at the trailhead is full, there is a large commuter lot across VA 7. Do **not** park along Pine Rd (road that leads to the trailhead lot) as it is very likely you will be towed. On the way back, I plan to stop at Lark Brewing Co in Aldie, VA. The address is 24205 James Monroe Hwy, Aldie, VA 20105. **LIABILITY NOTICE:** Please remember that this group operates under the common adventurer model. We are a group of friends and volunteers organizing trips for fun and shared experience. Participants are expected to be familiar with best hiking practices and choose hikes that align with their physical abilities and experience. Organizers and members are not liable for any injuries, loss, or damage to persons or property arising from group activities. By attending this event, you agree to assume all risks associated with the activity. For more information on the common adventurer model, please see [Ron Watters' definition](https://www.ronwatters.com/CADefine.htm). If you believe you may be lost during the hike, follow the advice of the [US Forest Service](https://www.fs.usda.gov/visit/know-before-you-go/if-you-get-lost). See you on the trail!

Handy Bikes | Sunday Casual Ride | Every-other-week
Handy Bikes | Sunday Casual Ride | Every-other-week
Similar to our "Beginner Ride", a casual, on-road-avoiding, cycle-path-winding, beginner friendly, group ride. The ride will be led by Maya and Angie, who have a combined 50 years of cycling experience. This is a no drop ride with an average speed of 7- 12 mph. Please bring a helmet, lights, a snack, hydration and wear appropriate clothing for cooler weather (cotton is not your friend in cooler temps and we will be riding in the dark). The ride can be tailored to the skills that attendees want to master, i.e- drinking from water bottle while riding, making tight turns, riding in a small group and cycling etiquette. We will be riding mainly on trails, streets as minimally as possible, and sidewalks only when necessary. This ride is perfect for someone who hasn't ridden in a while and wants to get some easy miles on the saddle; not just for newbies. If you have not ridden your bike in several weeks, months or years, please have a safety check done before the day of the ride. We are just here to have fun.
Systemic Constellation Workshop with Randy Goldberg
Systemic Constellation Workshop with Randy Goldberg
**A systemic constellation (also called Family Constellations) is a therapeutic group experience designed to uncover and resolve hidden family dynamics that may be influencing a person’s life.** Rooted in the work of Bert Hellinger, this method operates on the principle that unresolved traumas and patterns from previous generations can manifest in an individual’s relationships, health, or emotions. During the workshop, a facilitator guides participants as they explore these systemic entanglements using representatives—other group members who stand in for family members or key components of their issue. Through this process, participants gain deep insights into their energy field systems, fostering healing and a sense of resolution. These workshops provide a safe and supportive environment for self-discovery and transformation. Participants often experience profound emotional shifts as they witness and engage in the unfolding dynamics of their lives stories. By bringing unconscious loyalties, unresolved grief, or burdens to light, Family Constellation work helps individuals break free from limiting patterns, fostering greater harmony, self-acceptance, and a renewed sense of belonging. Whether attending as an active participant or as a representative, individuals often leave with a deeper understanding of their own lives and relationships. **Must register online FEE: $65** **Learn more and register** [here!](https://www.tealcenter.com/classes-and-events/)
