{Hiking Series}Indonesia - Rinjani (3,726m) via Torean. Beautiful + Epic hike!

It is about damn time we organize a Mount Rinjani hike, one of the most beautiful and famous hikes in South-East Asia.
Mount Rinjani (3,726m) is often on everyone's to do list. It is the 2nd highest mountain in Indonesia, with a good combination of beauty and challenge. Situated in Lombok, the hike over 3 days lets you experience a whole array of terrains, experiences and most likely emotions! From the lush savannahs, to trudging up volcanic scree, to climbing down boulders and rocks, active craters, crater lake, waterfalls etc. Little words can fully describe a Mount Rinjani hike until you've experienced it. If there was 1 hike I dare say someone should do in South-East Asia, it would be Rinjani.
There are fantastic views not just at the summit, where you can see Mount Agung (Bali) across but also along the hike. You'll see a large caledera, crater lake known as "Segara Anak", a small active crater, as well as hot springs! The only downside is the fact it is extremely commercial, so seeing many other hikers and tents will be part of your view too.
For this trip, we are not looking to do the traditional route, which is Sembalun/Senaru, but to explore the exit route via Torean instead. Our Rinjani itineraries have been always 3D2N because the extra night of camping is just a few hours away from a comfortable bed and toilet.
Rinjani is often a litmus test to your perseverance and mental strength. It is usually everyone's first experience with volcanic scree. Although not technically difficult, the volcanic scree slope to the summit can be extremely tiring and challenging, especially to first-timers. To maximize one's success, it is important to have a good level of fitness and mental strength. Experience in full day hikes, or overnight camping would help also.
**Who is this for?**
> > * Challenge of doing Mount Rinjani, enough said
> > * Experience camping
> > * Experience an overnight summit push
> > * Experience volcanic scree
> > * Multi-day hiking
> > * Experience 3,000m mountains with beautiful views
> > * Huge step-up from other Malaysia hikes or hikes like Batur
**Can Beginners do it?**
Depends on what kind of beginners, If you are adventurous and fit, I would say it is technically possible. However, would be good to have some hiking experience at least! You have to be open-minded and mentally strong to keep hiking a full day for 3 consecutive days. Some experience and good fitness is encouraged, if not have lots of mental fortitude.
If interested, do RSVP or Whatsapp. A Whatsapp group will be set up to coordinate further details and for a more detailed brief and instructions

Tips, tricks and apps for traveling in China
**tl;dr**
Share useful tips, tricks, and tech for smooth travels in China.
**Logistics**
* Where: 7:30–8:50 PM, Bugis NLB Library, Programme Room 1 (basement)
* After: Discussion continues until last train/bus at the Bras Basah Building food court next door
* Optional: Join our Telegram for reminders: [https://t.me/+7TNAbjU60PVjOTE1](https://t.me/+7TNAbjU60PVjOTE1) (very low volume — used only for reminders and online meetup links)
**More**
Looks like everyone's heading to China these days. Let's connect with friends who travel there regularly. We'll ask them to share travel hacks, tips, and useful technologies (VPNs, e-payments, AI apps) they rely on while travelling in China. Come along to ask questions or share your own tips and stories.
**Agenda**
* 7:30–7:40: Quick intro — share your name (or initials/nickname) and your travel experience in China. No worries if you haven't been yet, just tell us where you'd like to go.
* 7:40–8:00: Share one photo from your China travels and tell us about it. Could be anything — an interesting person you met, a dish, a gadget, scenery, a shop, etc.
* 8:00–8:10: Which AI apps are good for looking up information while in China? Rebekah will compare her experience using DeepSeek vs. ChatGPT for trip planning.
* 8:10–8:25: Discuss other China travel tech hacks — VPNs, eSIMs, payment apps.
* 8:25–8:50: Your questions about traveling in China.
At 8:50, we'll move to the Bras Basah food court to keep chatting about other things — for example, current trends in China (great conversation starters when meeting locals) and what "China-maxxing" actually means. What are the best cities beyond the usual tourist spots? Where can you connect with everyday locals in China?
Note: We will no longer livestream these meetups, but we'll continue running separate online sessions.

[Hiking Series] M'sia - Gunung Angsi (825m): Fun half-day traverse route!
**\*If interested, please whatsapp** [wa.me/+6588842635](wa.me/+6588842635) **or +65 8884 2635! Sign-ups *are only confirmed after contacting us and joining the WA group! \****
**Route: Putus -> Ulu Bendul**
Gunung Angsi is an interesting beginner mountain near Negiri Sembilan in Malaysia.
It is slightly longer than Lambak and Datuk, and more importantly one can take different routes up and down. There are also some elements of small stream/river crossings. However, it isn't technically difficult, isn't as long as a full day hike, but not as short as Lambak. However, that also depends on the terrain conditions, so its at least half a day of hiking **(5-7h)**!
**Who is this for?**
It is most suitable for those who just want a fun day hike out that isn't too tough like Ophir, or to do another hike other than the usual ones.
It serves as a good training or progressive hike for those who wish to do more hiking. Most do it as general training for hikes.
**How tough is it/How fit do I have to be?**
The trek is around 3+h up and 2-3h down, making it a total of 5-7h.
It is generally tropical forest trail, with some river, rope portions.
However, if you have done Gunung Datuk/Lambak before, the terrain is not that much of a surprise. Only the starting part from Ulu Bendul will feel long.
This is okay for newbies, as long as you have some level of fitness, if not it will be fun for those who are first time in Malaysia!
How many pax for the trip to happen?
Minimum **12 pax** to start the trip!
Once confirmed, a Whatsapp group/info-session will be set up.
