**1\. The Covenant of Water â Abraham Verghese**
Spanning the years 1900 to 1977, The Covenant of Water follows a family in southern India that suffers a peculiar affliction: in every generation, at least one person dies by drowning - and in Kerala, water is everywhere. At the turn of the century a twelve-year-old girl, grieving the death of her father, is sent by boat to her wedding, where she will meet her forty-year-old husband for the first time. From this poignant beginning, the young girl and future matriarch - known as Big Ammachi - will witness unthinkable changes at home and at large over the span of her extraordinary life, full of the joys and trials of love and the struggles of hardship.
A shimmering evocation of a lost India and of the passage of time itself, The Covenant of Water is a hymn to progress in medicine and to human understanding, and a humbling testament to the hardships undergone by past generations for the sake of those alive today. Imbued with humour, deep emotion and the essence of life, it is one of the most masterful literary novels published in recent years.
**2\. Say Nothing â Patrick Redden Keefe**
One night in December 1972, Jean McConville, a mother of ten, was abducted from her home in Belfast and never seen alive again. Her disappearance would haunt her orphaned children, the perpetrators of this terrible crime and a whole society in Northern Ireland for decades. In this powerful, scrupulously reported book, Patrick Radden Keefe offers not just a forensic account of a brutal crime but a vivid portrait of the world in which it happened. The tragedy of an entire country is captured in the spellbinding narrative of a handful of characters, presented in lyrical and unforgettable detail. A poem by Seamus Heaney inspires the title: âWhatever You Say, Say Nothingâ. By defying the culture of silence, Keefe illuminates how a close-knit society fractured; how people chose sides in a conflict and turned to violence; and how, when the shooting stopped, some ex-combatants came to look back in horror at the atrocities they had committed, while others continue to advocate violence even today. Say Nothing deftly weaves the stories of Jean McConville and her family with those of Dolours Price, the first woman to join the IRA as a front-line soldier, who bombed the Old Bailey when barely out of her teens; Gerry Adams, who helped bring an end to the fighting, but denied his own IRA past; Brendan Hughes, a fearsome IRA commander who turned on Adams after the peace process and broke the IRAâs code of silence; and other indelible figures. By capturing the intrigue, the drama and the profound human cost of the Troubles, the book presents a searing chronicle of the lengths that people are willing to go to in pursuit of a political ideal, and the ways in which societies mend â or donât â in the aftermath of a long and bloody conflict.

Ceolchoirm: The Gladstone Band
The Gladstone Band are a trad and folk trio formed in Dublin in 2024, made up of brothers Adam and Patrick Hutton, and friend Timmy Sheridan. Their stripped-back, high-energy sound harkens back to that of the early Dubliners, with them playing trad and folk standards alongside their own original repertoire.
Ceolchoirm: IspĂnĂ na hĂireann
IspĂnĂ na hĂireann is a dynamic trad-rock collective from Dublin, formed in 2018 and fronted by singer-songwriter Tomas Mulligan. Drawing from deep roots in Irish traditional music, the group features a rotating line up of exceptional musicians. Blending original compositions with inventive reimaginings of classic tunes, IspĂnĂ na hĂireann craft a sound that is bold, vibrant, and unmistakably Irish. Their music combines technical brilliance with wit, heart, and layers of social commentary, creating performances that are as thought-provoking as they are entertaining.
