***Is a strong sense of personal identity helpful in understanding the world and others?*** *Or does it inevitably distort what we see? How much can we shape our identity and how should it be done?* In this session of **Marginal Thoughts**, we will consider the role of personal identity - 'the self' - in making sense of the world. Before our different selves make sense of this topic, we'll read three short pieces: * A short story by Andy Weir: ["The Egg"](https://www.galactanet.com/oneoff/theegg.html) (\~10 min; alternative: [animated adaptation by Kurzgesagt](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6fcK_fRYaI)) * An essay by Paul Graham: ["Keep Your Identity Small"](https://paulgraham.com/identity.html) (\~8 min) * A poem by Stanley Kunitz: ["The Layers"](https://poets.org/poem/layers) (\~2 min) In these, Andy Weir diagnoses the universe with multiple personality disorder, Paul Graham urges people to do a 'Marie Kondo' on their identities, and Stanley Kunitz likens himself to a lasagna. **How to prepare** Please read all the materials in advance. As you do, try to identify at least one point of curiosity, confusion, or uncertainty - these will be natural starting points for our discussion. **What to expect** This is an in-person, conversational meetup in English. He enjoys the stimulating interactions that arise from new connections while walking, and hopes that others also find their spark and are moved to flow, that eventually fulfills them. **Walk & Talk** Willst du auch mehr Bewegung in dein Leben bringen? Und dich dabei noch gut unterhalten, so dass die Zeit verfliegt? Dann bist du hier genau richtig, denn mir geht es genauso. Alleine ist langweilig und die Zeit vergeht nicht, daher hab ich mir Walk & Talk überlegt. Inspiriert wurde ich durch die Walk & Talk Gruppe in Hamburg, wo ich mehrere Male dabei war als ich in Hamburg lebte. Unterschiedliche Menschen treffen sich einmal in der Woche für einen flotten Spaziergang und unterhalten sich dabei. Ich liebe es neue Menschen kennenzulernen und auch bekannte Gesichter wiederzusehen, dann geh ich ganz nebenbei und das macht auch noch Spaß.😊 **Walk:** Wir brauchen einfach regelmäßige Bewegung und ich weiß selbst, wie schwierig es ist, diese in den Alltag zu integrieren. Deshalb ist dieser Walk genau richtig. Nach diesem Spaziergang fühlst du dich einfach wohl, fit und entspannt. **Talk:** Das Reden kommt ganz von selbst beim Gehen. Du kannst über alles reden, egal, ob privates oder berufliches, alles was sich ergibt ist willkommen. Und wenn du keinen Bock aufs Reden hast, dann gehst du alleine, auch das ist völlig in Ordnung. **Wie das ganze abläuft:** * Die Teilnahme ist völlig kostenlos. * Wo: U6 Spittelau (im Freien), Richtung Donaukanal, Ausgang Josef-Holaubek-Platz, direkt vor dem Fernwärme-Turm (https://maps.app.goo.gl/XwAayz4FQe2EW8WK9) Wenn du mit der U4 kommst, geh bitte zum Hauptgebäude, wo die Züge und die U6 fahren. * Wann: Wir treffen uns dienstags um 13 Uhr, egal, ob bei Regen, Sturm und Kälte oder bestem Sonnenschein – Walk & Talk findet nahezu JEDE Woche statt außer ich bin mal im Urlaub. * Wir starten pünktlich und beginnen mit einer kurzen Vorstellungsrunde. * Wie gehen am Donaukanal entlang von Höhe Spittelau bis zum Schwedenplatz und zurück. * Ca. 7 Kilometer sind wir unterwegs und unterhalten uns dabei mit interessanten Menschen. Dabei kannst du neue Bekanntschaften schließen, dich inspirieren lassen, von Projekten erzählen oder einfach nur smalltalken und die frische Luft genießen. Alles ist erlaubt. * Nach ca. 1,75 Stunden sind wir wieder am Ausgangspunkt zurück. * Bei einer Teilnahme von über 5 Personen gehen wir in Paaren und wechseln diese alle 10 Min. The excitement, the fun, the drama - experience Maestro Impro(TM), the most famous theatresports format across the world! Improvisors from Vienna’s vibrant improv scene will be joined by international guests to fight for the audience’s favor. The show has an elimination structure, where randomly chosen improvisors play scenes with each other. The directors set up the scenes, which will be scored by the audience. The players given the highest scores continue while those with lower numbers leave the show. This goes on for several rounds until only one improvisor remains - the Maestro. You can also be part of the show - if you want! The directors will host a free warm-up workshop for all contestants to get to know each other. And we invite everyone to join us for this workshop. At the end, we will ask for volunteers and pick a few participants to go on stage with the already set cast. This offer is open for all levels of impro, even beginners! We will meet to discuss the book “**Antifragile**" (426 pages) written by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. The idea is to connect with like minded readers that love to grow and get to know themselves better through reading and especially applying knowledge from books. This time we read Stanisław Lem's novelette **"The futurological congress"** from 1971. We meet at IKEA Westbahnhof at JOE&JOE'S in the 5th floor. Drinks and food can be bought there.

Eine kleine „Sonderausgabe“ der Kaffeerunde für alle, die auch gern lesen. Dieses Mal probieren wir etwas Neues: wir lesen gemeinsam ein Buch und treffen uns, um darüber zu sprechen. In kleiner Runde tauschen wir uns über unsere Eindrücke aus: über Figuren, Themen, und unterschiedliche Perspektiven. Für diese erste Leserunde schlage ich das Buch **„Ostblockherz“ von Didi Drobna** vor (ca. 180 Seiten). Der Roman berührt Themen wie Familie, Migration, Herkunft und die manchmal schwierige Beziehung zwischen Eltern und Kindern. Wenn Interesse besteht, können wir die Leserunde gerne gelegentlich wiederholen. Für zukünftige Bücher können wir dann auch gemeinsam Vorschläge sammeln. Lansăm un club de carte scrisă în limba română, la Viena, dedicat tuturor celor care vor să transforme lectura într-o experiență împărtășită. Ne dorim întâlniri relaxate, cu conversații autentice, opinii diferite, râsete, poate și mici controverse – exact așa cum se întâmplă atunci când o carte chiar ne pune pe gânduri.
