Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done. We’re hosting an open Grief Café at Villa Vida Café, a monthly gathering for young adults who are navigating grief and want a space to talk, listen, or simply be around others who understand. This is a low-threshold, informal space. You can come as you are. Event Details Date: Friday, June 26 Time: 18:00–20:00 Location: Villa Vida Café, Vienna Entry: Free and open to everyone – NO registration necessary What to Expect The Grief Café Vienna offers a setting where grief is not avoided or hidden, but spoken about openly. There will be a short introduction at the beginning. After that, the space is yours. You can: Share your experiences Listen to others Sit quietly if that’s what you need Shape the space in a way that feels right for you There is no pressure to speak. Participation looks different for everyone. Who Is It For? This gathering is open to anyone experiencing grief, especially young adults looking for connection outside of clinical or formal settings. The group is: Non-religious Anti-authoritarian Open to all genders, sexualities, and backgrounds Why a Grief Café? Grief can be isolating. Many people don’t have spaces where they can talk about it honestly. The goal of this grief support group in Vienna is simple: Create a space where people in similar situations can meet, talk, and support each other. About the Organisers This initiative comes from a young adult grief support network that has been meeting informally in smaller groups. This event expands that into a more accessible, shared space. Come write with us at Cafe Pierre every Sunday at 18:00-20:00! A message from Shut Up & Write: "Shut Up & Write hosts free, in-person and online writing events for writers all over the world. Our goal is to ensure that every writer—regardless of genre or skill level—has access to the resources, community, and accountability that they need to be successful in their personal writing goals." And what this looks like at our event: We chat and give short introductions to what we are working on at 18:00, then start writing at 18:15. Though we try to start on dot, being late isn't a problem—just find a spot and get to work! We write until 20:00 and then discuss how our writing went. From fiction to non-fiction, academic papers to poetry, applications to work-related writing—anything goes! Nothing is needed except for you to bring whatever is need to get stuff done, i.e. laptop, headphones, pen and paper, and so on. Optional socialising may happen before 18:00 and after 20:00, or you may choose to use this time to get some more done! Whether it‘s your blog, a report, your thesis, your next book, copy for your website, or just your daily journaling, it doesn’t matter. This session is about getting your writing done and meeting other writers in your area. When you show up, say hello to everyone, grab a drink, and get your writing tools ready. Once you’re all settled, take some time to chat with your fellow writers. Once everyone’s arrived, I will lead quick introductions and then set the timer for our quiet and focused writing session. Afterward, we’ll have time to chat and get to know each other. We often talk about our successes and challenges as writers. If you don’t have time to stick around, no worries! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “Create a better world” by helping serve those in need. NOTE: We’re switching it up this time and going with a DINNER shift on Mon, 7/6. Here are complete details and our plan for this event: FAITH MISSION – GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces. PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for DINNER from 4:30 to 6:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 4:20pm and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants. LOCATION: Faith Mission – Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking are available in the surrounding area. Open Shelter has teamed up again with Red White and Boom! Friday, July 3rd & we are looking for volunteers to run the event’s alcohol booths. Proceeds from sales go to the Open Shelter’s organization. There are two available shifts: 12-6p & 5-11p. There will be an ipad-like device to process transactions in addition to cash. Everything will be in bottles or cans, so transactions should be very easy. Must be 21+. There are multiple beverage stations along the Civic Center Bridge. The stations are covered and also have beverage trucks next to them, so volunteers can cool off in the trucks. As far as parking, it is suggested those who are coming from the east use the Columbus Commons Garage, and those from the west use the Belle Street Garage.
