Rumba Columbia (Free Trial Class)
**Rumba Columbia is a powerful and sensitive dance. Through Columbia, dancers express their deepest emotions. It is an improvisational dance developed in Cuba, where each dancer enters alone and shows their individuality.**
**It combines fast, intricate footwork with sharp shoulder movements, constantly shifting in tempo and cadence. But Columbia is about more than technique â it is about presence and dialogue. The dancer and the quinto (lead drum) interact in real time, creating a living conversation between rhythm and movement. đ„**
**Traditionally, Columbia was danced mostly by men, as it originated in shipyards and docks where they expressed strength, agility, and creativity. Today, rumberas also shape the dance, bringing new grace and power to it.**
**Columbia remains a dance of individuality â every gesture, step, and accent is personal. Itâs not about perfection, but about truth, rhythm, and connection.**
**In this course, we do not learn pre-set choreographies. Instead, we focus on improvisation and help you develop your own style and expression within the dance. âš**

đ What to Expect from a Free Trial Class
If you choose to join a free trial class, please note that you will be joining an ongoing course rather than a class specifically designed for complete beginners.
The purpose of the trial class is to give you the opportunity to get an impression of me as a teacher, my teaching style, and the atmosphere of the class.
This is an open-level class and usually includes dancers with a wide range of experience, including some more advanced students. I therefore encourage you not to compare yourself too much to the people around you. Instead, focus on taking from the class what matches your current level and experience.
It is perfectly fine if, for now, "all" you take home is the basic step of this beautiful dance. đ
Rumba Columbia is a dance with many layers. Week by week, you will improve your body movement, technique, coordination, musicality, and build your own repertoire of movements and ideas.
My goal is not for everyone to master the same material at the same speed, but for each dancer to continue growing from wherever they currently are.
I am very much looking forward to meeting you and dancing with you!

PUTTING FOOD & WINE PAIRING ON ITS HEAD: NON-ITALIAN WINES FOR ITALIAN CUISINE
One of the golden rules of food and wine pairing says **"what grows together goes together"**.
As experienced wine connoisseurs, we will challenge conventional wisdom and put this rule on its head by pairing - non Italian wines with the following classic Italian dishes:
* *Caprese*
* *Panzenella (sicilian bread salad)*
* *Caponata*
* *Prosciutto e Melone*
* *Frittata di zucchini*
* *Calamari alla griglia*
* *Tiramisu*
From Stellenbosch to Wellington and all the way to the Mosel or the Danube, the world is your oyster.
Select and bring a bottle (still or sparkling, white, rosé or red) that is unconventional, unexpected, exciting or simply daring that will astound and inspire even the most traditional Italian sommelier.
The requirements for the wine are simple,
\- price range of 15⏠plus\)\,
\- if white\, rose\, sparkling please bring already chilled\,
and **IMPORTANTLY,** keep the wine covered so no-one can see it.
At our blind wine tasting events - we share, we taste, we analyse, we discuss, we enjoy and we attempt to identify whatâs in the glass.
No expertise is required - Curiosity is enough.
**đ¶ Contribution**
**âŹ25 donation per person (plus your bottle of wine)**
**A 72-hour cancellation policy applies.**
**Who Should Join?**
This evening is open to everyone â from curious enthusiasts to experienced wine lovers. Whether you are beginning your journey into wines or deepening your understanding, you are welcome.

Shut Up & Write!Âź East Side Columbus
Join us for an hour of writing! Weâve discovered that itâs strikingly helpful to write with other writers. See if itâs true for you at 7:00pm on Wednesday, February 11 at Streetlight Guild.
Be it a book, blog, script, essay, dissertation, resume, melody, poem or just plain work stuff, you are invited to write it with us. No one will see what you've written or give you unsolicited advice. Instead of just thinking about writing, come and get some real writing done.
**SCHEDULE:**
6:45ish - Quick introductions
7:00 - Timer starts: write for 1 hour
8:00 - The End
**OPTIONAL SOCIALIZING** happens before and after the writing hour. Writing is very solitary. Connecting (and sometimes even commiserating) with other writers is a cool thing.
**BEING LATE IS OKAY:** just show up and get settled! If you were on time, please be willing to make room for the friendly latecomer.
Happy writing & I look forward to seeing you at Streetlight Guild!
**WHAT SHOULD I BRING?**
Whatever you need to be able to write! You're welcome to bring earplugs/headphones if noise will bother you!
**OTHER IMPORTANT DETAILS:**
* **RSVP:** Please RSVP by 6:00pm the evening of the meeting. This helps me know how many to expect, and if we'll need additional space!
* **COVID:** While masks are not required, please be mindful of the other writers around you and their comfort levels.
* **WIFI/OUTLETS:** Outlets are limited, so please ensure your devices are charged when you come! But Streetlight Guild does have free WiFi! Yay!
* **PARKING:** There is free public parking at Streetlight Guild.

Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Wine Tasting - Newcomers Night
This is "***New Members Night***." If you are one of the many folks on the fence about coming to your first wine tasting with the *Hilliard Wine Club*, this is the night to come. There will be many other new people, so you won't be alone. And the regulars will be there to help make you feel welcome. We're a relaxed and warm group. We hope to see you.
**SIDE NOTE:** New members are welcome to ALL our Friday night wine tastings, but this night is a special overture to those who don't want to feel that they are the only new person in the room. Don't worry. You won't be. And don't hesitate to RSVP to other events.
**OLD MEMBERS NOTE**: Hey Old Members! You're not excluded from this event. We expect to see you there to help make the new members feel welcome.
**Sample 4 different wines** this Friday for $15 (*Cash or Venmo only please*). Glasses are provided. Bring a snack to share. Bring a bottle to share if you care to. See all the details below for the Hilliard Wine Club Wine Tasting. In Person. In Real Life. Actual Wine from glass bottles with corks and everything.
**Wine**: Tastings will be $15 for four samples as always. And you are welcome to bring a bottle of your favorite wine to share with others. Participation in the wine tastings is optional. But since youâre going, I will buy enough wine to cover you. If you bring your own wine and do not participate in the tasting you will only pay $10 to cover the door charge.
**Parking**: There are several public parking lots near the Alive614 hall. Please be careful to NOT park in private parking lots. They do tow. Check Google maps to scope out your space. Anyone who is early could easily find a parking space on the street nearby.
**Glasses**: âŠwill be provided. Please note that after the wine tasting, the glasses need to be returned to the boxes at the service table. Please be gentle, our glasses are fragile. Uh, they are made of glass!
**Food**: You are welcome to bring a snack to share. It is not required. Most people do though. If no one brings anything, there will be nothing.
**Code of Conduct**: Though mostly understood, itâs still worth mentioning. We donât have rules per se, but we highly discourage the following topics of discussion because they are likely to incite anti-social responses - Sex, Politics, Religion. Please donât mistake this as an attempt to limit your free speech rights but rather a guide to a place and time for appropriate discussions.
**Extra Wine**: After everyone has had their samples, we remove the pouring spouts and any remaining wine is poured freely to whomever wants it. I hate having leftover wine.
**Queen of Hearts**: The Queen of Hearts raffle is a fundraiser for the club and a Barnum and Bailey type extravaganza - minus the dancing ponies, clowns, and actual circus. Bring your ***cash*** as the Queen does not accept American Express or other plastic.
**After the lights go out**: After the last sip of wine, when we clean up and turn the lights out, if you still havenât had enough of us, it is typical for a group to get together and go to a local eatery for food and/or drinks or coffee.
Again, We look forward to meeting new members and reuniting with old friends.
Sincerely, ***Paul Uttermohlen***,
**Red 1 Realty**

CMG Gives Back: Serve Dinner at FAITH MISSION GRANT KITCHEN!
Join us as we get together to get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event! We have a great little community of Movie Group friends so rather than see a movie this time, weâll help âCreate a better worldâ by helping serve those in need. NOTE: Weâre switching it up this time and going with a DINNER shift on Mon, 7/6. Here are complete details and our plan for this event:
FAITH MISSION â GRANT KITCHEN: The Faith Mission kitchen and dining room serves residents 3 meals a day, every day of the year. For this event, our group will help prepare food, serve meals, assist residents in the dining room, wash dishes, and clean surfaces.
PLAN: We will be preparing / serving / cleaning for DINNER from 4:30 to 6:30pm and have space for a total of 7 volunteers. Please arrive at 4:20pm and wear closed-toe shoes and long pants.
LOCATION: Faith Mission â Grant Kitchen is located at 245 N. Grant Ave. Enter the kitchen at Dock 1 (in the back of the building), indicated in the attached map. On-site parking in the adjacent lot and street parking are available in the surrounding area. Below are some links / attachments with additional info/details:
IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing all of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain youâll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please try to update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. With few exceptions, no shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will not be eligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. Our Partner Agency for this event is Lutheran Social Services! A huge THANK YOU to those volunteering at this (or any of our previous or future) CMG Gives Back events!
Look forward to seeing you there, Dan
