All Out of Bubblegum Film Club 141 / Nightcrawler
Nightcrawler is a 2014 American neo-noir satirical thriller film written and directed by Dan Gilroy in his directorial debut. It stars Jake Gyllenhaal as an unhinged stringer who seeks out violent and morbid events late at night in Los Angeles so he can film them and sell the exclusive footage to a local television news station. The supporting cast includes Rene Russo, Riz Ahmed, and Bill Paxton. It was met with widespread praise, especially Gilroy's screenplay and the performances of Gyllenhaal and Russo. Several critics listed Nightcrawler as one of the best films of 2014 and it received various accolades, including a Best Original Screenplay nomination at the 87th Academy Awards.
Please note we will not be showing the film at the meeting. Make sure you watch the film before you attend and then come and join in with the conversation. It’s just a discussion. It’s not a screening.
We will be meeting in The Ludski Bar in the Rio Cinema.

London Local Filmmakers Collective (LLFC) — Kickoff Cocktails and More!
We’re kicking off the very first **London Local Film Collective** **(LLFC)** meetup at **The Cocktail Club Monument** on **June 13**. We’ll meet at **7:30 PM**, with more details and exact meetup instructions to come closer to the day. It is a perfect spot to gather, talk shop, and get to know each other before we start making all kinds of brilliant low-budget chaos together.
You can check out the venue before the meetup:[ ](https://www.thecocktailclub.com/bars/monument?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=gbp&utm_campaign=homepage)**[Here.](https://www.thecocktailclub.com/bars/monument?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=gbp&utm_campaign=homepage)**[ ](https://www.thecocktailclub.com/bars/monument?utm_medium=organic&utm_source=gbp&utm_campaign=homepage)The bar is at **Monument, 2B Eastcheap, London EC3M 1AE**. Located in King William House.
**A quick RSVP note: We will be making reservations the night before. Because this venue is reservation-based, please do not RSVP yes unless you’re fairly certain you can attend. If something comes up, please update your RSVP as soon as possible and let us know. More than two no-shows will result in removal from the group. No villain arc, just logistics.**
This first meetup is all about connection. Come by, have a drink, meet other filmmakers, and tell us what you’re working on — whether that’s a short film, a documentary, a script, a micro-budget feature, a half-finished idea living in your Notes app, or a project you’d love to jump onto with other people. Directors, actors, writers, cinematographers, editors, photographers, animators, and curious *“I know I want in, I just don’t know where yet”* people are all welcome.
We’ll meet at **7:30 PM**, and I’ll send more details and meetup instructions closer to the day.
Let’s make some cool stuff together!
The Poisoned Chocolates Case @ The Mad Hatter Pub
*“One of the most stunning trick stories in the history of detective fiction…”.*
For our next read, we will discuss one of the all-time great mystery novels: *The Poisoned Chocolates Case*
**About the book:**
* This classic story by Anthony Berkeley features multiple plausible solutions to the same mystery; a group of armchair detectives each propose a completely different explanation for the crime.
* The book can be viewed as a meta-commentary on the mystery genre (but it's a lot more entertaining than that sounds).
* The fictional "Crimes Circle" of armchair detectives in the book is based on real crime authors including Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers.
**About the event:**
* Location: The Mad Hatter Pub, 3-7 Stamford St, London SE1 9NY
* Timing: Saturday 13th June from 3-5pm.
* I'll have a sign on the table and a copy of the book so it should be easy to spot where we're meeting.
* Our table is booked for six - please update your RSVP if you are unable to attend so that other people can join.
* We have a WhatsApp group - totally optional but message me on Meetup if you want to join.
Happy reading!
