Alexandria is hosting its annual St. Patrick's Day Parade on March 7th! Let's take a walk around Old Town, and those inclined can linger longer to watch the parade. ❶ **What we'll do:** * From the old ship's rudder under Wilson Bridge we'll check out the lighthouse and then head north along the shoreline to Madison Street, with a slight detour to walk through the Wilkes St Tunnel. At Madison St we'll turn left, walk west to N. Fairfax St, and head south back to the Torpedo Factory along Fairfax, Princess, and Union streets. After a pit stop at the Torpedo Factory, we'll head west to the parade route along Union and Queen streets. Pick your favorite viewing spot along N Pitt St; the reviewing stand is at the intersection of N Pitt and King streets and the parade starts at 12:15 pm. After the parade or whenever you have had enough, it's about a one mile walk back to Jones Point Park along King and Lee streets. * The hike is just under 5 miles and should take about 2 hours, plus maybe an hour to watch the parade, at your discretion. The surface is fairly level, except for Windmill Hill, and is mostly paved. We are meeting in person at Elwood Smith Community Center, Rockville! \*\*\* The community-singing event where where everything's made up and the point — to sing for our lives — matters. Our leaders will teach you parts to sing for spontaneously-composed choral pieces. We play a variety of listening/music/singing games, and create safe opportunities for participants to improvise as little or as much as they might like. Good for all skill levels, shower-singers to seasoned pros, no sheet-music-reading required. \*\*\* We usually meet on the second Sunday of the month, and will continue to meet in-person as long as it makes sense. We encourage and provide masks. We will also plan on continuing our Zoom circles from time to time. So please check the day before/day of the meetup each month to confirm date & details. Come volunteer with us refurbishing donated bicycles so that they can be used again by the community! This event is open to new volunteers and existing volunteers. No mechanical experience is necessary. Note: The warehouse location is in the alley behind 1502 Mt Vernon Ave. Enter through the gray door next to a roll-down garage door. If you drive to the location, be sure to park in the street, not in the alleys or parking lots surrounding the warehouse. And wear clothes you don't mind getting dirty with bicycle grease! Volunteers under 18 need a parent or guardian to accompany them to their first volunteer experience and sign a liability waiver.
