The Castle climbing wall, "Storm the breach" Sunday mornings!
The Castle climbing wall, "Storm the breach" Sunday mornings!
**About** THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER has about 135 roped/auto-belays numbered routes with each route having up to 6 grades giving it approx 700 routes in total. THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER offers bouldering, top-roping, leading and auto-belays at their center. Some of us prefer bouldering while others will be in the top roping, leading or auto-belaying - this is up to you! We climb for a couple of hours and then the group regroups at 12.00 noon sometimes without me other times with me in The Brownswood pub, 271 Green Lanes, Finsbury Park, London N4 2EX for a spot of lunch and a libation. (https://goo.gl/maps/S4FZ9j1AYMPDs7uQ6) a stone's throw from the castle. **Meetups** We get together every Thursday & Sunday at THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER meeting at 9:00am in the warming up area or else look out for someone wearing a black RAMS t-shirt around the center. If you're joining for the first time let us know via message and we will keep an eye out for you at the start :) **New Climbers!** Unfortunately, if you haven't climbed before it isn't as easy as just turning up and climbing up the wall. To climb safely you need to understand the hazards and be able to use the equipment correctly. You must have basic climbing skills and know how to put on a harness, attach a rope to a harness using a rethreaded figure of eight(figure of eight on the bight) and know how to use a belay device to pay out the rope and secure a falling climber etc. So before your first climb, you may be required by the climbing center to fill out health and safety forms. This may involve a quick test on climbing rules at the counter on arrival. Please add an extra 10/15 minutes before your session if you need to register for the first time. THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER terms and conditions will apply. Please also note signing up for the Meetup session won’t necessarily grant you access to the center. **Other communication** Within these groups, you are possibly likely to develop long-lasting friendships. Don't forget we have a Discord page and WhatsApp https://chat.whatsapp.com/JNJ81oLSKB2JGaNm79em0C. The group will always be very varied when it comes to climbing levels, abilities and modality preferences. Do shout out if you have any questions. If you want to have a chat about this or other meetups, or just to keep in touch, ask to join us on Discord and/or WhatsApp. We have a dedicated THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER chat, but also talk about all things climbing (and some non-climbing!) including trips, gear talks and looking for climbing partner/s situations. **You’ll Rock it** A word of warning this sport is very, very addictive once bitten your its mistress for life. The simple challenge of you against the rock is sublime, there are competitions but then really the only real competition is 'you and the rock'. As climbing can be a very social activity we look forward to sharing our passion with yours. *Happy climbing!* p.s. Eventually, we will be starting and incorporating our climbing academy where we aim to bring skills, ropework and technique etc to enhance your climbing ability, using 25mm chalk bag colored belts to indicate your level. Naturally, THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER will also run courses to help improve your techniques too. Contact THE CASTLE CLIMBING CENTER for more info.

I hope you are ready for some fun! This year will be different from the others, we won't be celebrating in Britain's current capital, no, we will travel through time in a time machine; also called train... and will visit England's former capital and decreed as such by King Alfred, and what a beauty it is... Well, I have to say, this is a bit like visiting my family over there, it's true, the town which was once one the most Important on this Island of Great Britain was created by the Belgae, a celtic tribe from the continent coming from the area today called Belgium and some bits of Northern France who established their settlements around 150BC...my great great great great great great great great great ... grand parents might even have been some of the founders...kings and Queens I am sure!Yes, I am Belgian and not big headed at all! SO... Let's visit Winchester, you might have heard of it even just for its Christmas market, deemed to be one of the most magicals in England as well as the home of England eldest cathedral. (You might want to visit the remains of the castle for an extra 4 pounds first, it still has the round table! Yes, King Arthur's round table... the famous one.) This is a hiking group, so of course, we will begin this trip with a hike. We will climb the famous St Catherine hill and enjoy the views from its top. This hike is not too long, around 8/9 miles (14km) and the start of the hike is located very close to the city centre, after all, the town is surrounded by gorgeous wild greenery. From pretty streams, to woodlands and acres of fields, hills with 360 degree views and the remains of the early settlements as well as a medieval hospital that is also open to visit and is beautifully decorated around Christmas. And attention beer drinkers; he Hospital of St Cross is famous for its unique and ancient tradition of providing the Wayfarer’s Dole since the 12th century. This is a horn of beer and a morsel of bread given to any visitor who requests it. The custom was founded by a monk from Cluny in France, whose holy order always gave bread and wine to travellers. The tradition still continues today. Visitors may request the Dole at the Porter’s Lodge as they depart. Don't worry, the climb isn't difficult. We will finish the trip at the Christmas market where we will grab some delicious street food and some tasty mulled wine and wander in the historical streets of medieval England before we hop back on the time machine, a bit tipsy and our bellies filled with tasty fatty christmassy food... Small Group-Fit For Royalty: Windsor Estate, Virginia Water & Castle Vista
Small Group-Fit For Royalty: Windsor Estate, Virginia Water & Castle Vista
**Join Me For A Royal Winter Day Hike escape from London.** I first visited Windsor shortly after Prince Philip passed away - and something about the town stayed with me. The quiet grace of the castle, the endless tree-lined avenues, the open deer park breathing around you… it was magical. I’ve been returning ever since, and every time, it feels like stepping into a story. So this December, I’m inviting you to come walk it with me. We’ll cross the royal grounds, wander along Virginia Water Lake, move through ancient oaks and open parkland — and finish with *that* breathtaking view of Windsor Castle rising ahead like a scene from a film. And who knows… if luck is on our side, we might even spot Prince Philip’s famous black carriage horses training along The Long Walk. A moment only seen by those who happen to be there — at the right time, in the right season. 🐎 Bonus: if people still have energy at the end, we can also cross the bridge to Eton, the town that shaped some of Britain’s most powerful figures — and home to its most famous private school. History is everywhere here. **Key Info:** Meeting point: London Waterloo Station - full itinerary will be available after RSVP. Distance: 15 miles through forests, gardens & lakes ( you will need to wear layers, waterproofs, good footwear). *Train from Waterloo — just under 1 hour. We’ll grab a discounted around £15 group open return on the day.* Meet: 08:10 - train departs shortly after and we will return to London approx 18:30 At the end of the hike, as is tradition, we usually finish with a drink in a cosy Windsor pub — think mulled wine, cider or a well-earned pint. This part is completely optional, but always a lovely way to round off the day. **Why this is unique:** We travel as a **small group**, which means this isn’t just a hike — it’s shared conversation, gentle connection, a chance to meet people properly rather than disappear among dozens. It feels like escaping the city with friends, even if you arrive knowing no one yet. :-) ⚠️Health & Safety • Participants take part at their own risk. • The guide is not responsible for personal injury, loss, or accidents. • Please ensure you are fit enough for the hike and follow safety instructions on the trail. • Hike goes ahead rain or shine — pack for all condition Come if you need fresh air, good company, a royal winter backdrop and a little December magic. ❄👑

🌅🗿 Winter Solstice at Stonehenge – Magical Once-In-A-Lifetime Experience
################# **This trip is now FULL.** **We’ve created a list of [FAQs](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1eoHZXnrB9nny5MvZXWqeX2X0XmoeAgWR/view?usp=drive_link) to help you.** ################# Join us for our final adventure of 2025 – a rare, once-a-year chance to **celebrate the magical Winter Solstice and witness the sunrise over Stonehenge**! 🌅❄️ On the **shortest day of the year**, thousands of people from around the world gather to honour this ancient moment of spiritual and cultural significance. For our ancestors, marking the passage of time was essential. As winter brought darker days and colder nights, people would have longed for the return of light and warmth. **Stonehenge’s precise alignment with the solstice sunrise** is no coincidence – it may well have been created to celebrate this powerful turning point in the year, when the sun begins its journey back toward longer days. During the Winter Solstice, music, dancing, singing and centuries-old rituals fill the air. 🥁🎶 The sunrise is welcomed with hopes of renewal, rebirth and good energy. Many come simply to embrace the peaceful, mystical atmosphere and witness the moment together. It’s also **one of the only times you can stand right among the sacred stones and even touch them**. The stone circle opens to the public just twice a year – during the Winter and Summer Solstices. On any other day, Stonehenge is roped off and can only be viewed from around 10 metres away. 🚧 And the best part? Entry during these rare solstice celebrations is **completely free** – while on a normal day, visiting Stonehenge costs around £30. See a BBC article about last year's event: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ckg349e4q22o **ITINERARY** **03:30** Meet outside Hotel Novotel London West, 1 Shortlands, W6 8DR (a five-minute walk from Hammersmith Station) **03:45** Sharp departure **06:00** Free time next to Stonehenge **08:09** Sunrise **09:30** Meet next to the minibus for departure **11:30** London, Hammersmith **WHAT TO BRING** * Please wear sensible footwear – the car park and area around Stonehenge are grassy fields and can be uneven underfoot * Warm, waterproof clothing – please note that large umbrellas are not permitted during the Solstice * Small torch for walking to the stone circle * Small ground sheet and/or blanket * Food and drinks to keep you fuelled throughout the morning **PROHIBITED ITEMS** * Large bags – only small bags (approximately 30cm x 25cm x 15cm) are permitted, in line with current security measures. Bag checks may be carried out, with illegal items confiscated and entry refused. * Alcohol and drugs * Drones **TRANSPORT** As on most of our trips, we'll travel in a comfortable 16-seater minibus. **TRAVELLING TO THE MEETING POINT** The Night Tube operates on Saturday nights across the Central, Jubilee, Northern, Piccadilly and Victoria lines, with trains running approximately every 10-20 minutes. Free Human Towers Rehearsal + Social (Sunday)
Free Human Towers Rehearsal + Social (Sunday)
Sunday rehearsal with Castellers of London. Meet us at the OBC Community Centre to help build human towers! This get together is a great opportunity for you to meet new friends, socialise and have a go and explore your abilities as a human tower builder a.k.a Casteller! For newcomers we have a team of trained Castellers who will introduce you to the group, guide you through the activity and help you safely take part in this unique Catalan tradition. When you arrive just approach us as we are really friendly! If in doubt ask for Cuss! Please let us know if you are bringing guests. After the rehearsal we go to a nearby pub for social drinks where everyone is welcome :) What do you need? 1. Ideally a cotton shirt: to protect your neck and shoulders, the more durable the shirt/top the better. We do not recommend any thin items of clothing! 2. Jeans: allowing you to move freely without breaking. 3. Mask: We still require the use of a mask as you will be very close to your fellow Castellers - basically you will be hugging people! The rest of the equipment is on us! We take health and safety very seriously, both in relation to COVID-19 and also the activity- please be assured that the safety of all participants is of the utmost importance to us and we take all necessary precautions to minimize the risk, ensuring we all have a great time! Our regular members won't be filling in the Meet Up to say they are going 🙂 So don't be put off if you see only a handful have said they are going. A minimum of 25 on the day is normal. What the Meet Up may show is how many new people like yourself are going.

CMG Gives Back: Food Distribution at CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY!
CMG Gives Back: Food Distribution at CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY!
Start the New Year off right! Join us as we get together to help those in need at this CMG Gives Back event to distribute food at the Champion Food Pantry! We’ve created a great little community of Movie Group friends! Rather than see a movie this time, we’ll help “Create a better world” by helping serve people in need. Here are complete details and our plan for this event: CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: The Champion Food Pantry provides needed food to neighbors experiencing food insecurity. For this event, we’ll be volunteering to help with Food Distribution during client pick up times. Our group will receive on-the-spot training from some of their seasoned regular volunteers. PLAN FOR CHAMPION FOOD PANTRY: Please arrive by 2:45pm. Our volunteer time will be from 3:00 to 6:00pm. LOCATION & PARKING: The Champion Food Pantry is located at 1460 S. Champion Ave in Columbus. Parking is located in the lot on Frebis across from the pantry. Please enter through the door marked "Volunteers enter here” on Frebis Ave. A map has been uploaded to the photos. IMPORTANT REMINDER: Our group will be providing the majority of the volunteers on this day so a firm RSVP count is essential. Please only sign up if you are certain you’ll be able to attend. If something unavoidable comes up, please update your RSVP no later than one week prior to the event. No shows or cancelations within 1 week of the event will mak you ineligible for future CMG Gives Back events. I appreciate your understanding as we try to ensure the agencies have the volunteers needed to provide the essential services they provide to the vulnerable population they serve. But the benefits go well beyond the help we give to others. Volunteering can provide a wide range of personal benefits, including positive effects on mental and physical health, reduced stress/depression/anxiety, increased happiness and improved purpose, life-satisfaction and personal well-being! Plus, the opportunity to get involved, connect with others and help those in need. PARTNER AGENCY: This event is hosted by Lutheran Social Services (LSS), which serves thousands of people in need each day in 27 Ohio counties by addressing the four core societal issues of food, shelter, safety and healing. LSS offers food through the LSS Food Pantries, housing and supportive services through LSS Faith Mission and LSS Faith Mission of Fairfield County homeless shelters, domestic violence services through LSS CHOICES for Victims of Domestic Violence, senior living and health care, affordable housing communities, and other services that uplift families and strengthen communities. Thanks for your help and look forward to seeing you there, Dan
