Queer Quest: A Pride Social Arcade
Queer Quest: A Pride Social Arcade
Happy Pride Month! 🌈 We’re celebrating queer joy, chosen family, and the incredible contributions of LGBTQ+ folks across gaming, computer science, art, and play. Connect with other local gamers in a welcoming, joy-filled space. We welcome all gal gamers, queer gamers, trans gamers, nonbinary gamers, and allies who game across genres: skillful shooters to cozy farmers, puzzle platformers to brutal metroidvania conquerors. We’ll have a special focus on the retro games championed by our younger selves. If you rocked out with The Sims, solved crimes with Nancy Drew, designed showstoppers with Barbie Designer, raised a Neopet, or made your whole personality one very specific game — this event is for you! So let’s party, game, and learn about our peers and gaming history with Social Bingo. **Schedule** 7:00 — Check-in and Social Bingo begins 8:00 — Announcements / LFG Want to call for folks to play a particular game, start a D&D table, find a Marvel Rivals squad, organize Pandemic Legacy, promote a book club, or share a community ask? This is your moment to grab the mic.

Pinochle at Panera Bread in Bethesda
Pinochle at Panera Bread in Bethesda
We have taken more than a year off due to the pandemic. Our old favorite cafe in Bethesda is now closed so lets try the Panera Bread down the street on Wisconsin Ave. Please come and join us for some double deck pinochle, assuming (of course) that you have been inoculated for Covid-19 and you are willing to follow the current guidelines of the business on mask wearing. We will start the first game about 6 pm. We play 300 point games so the second game will likely start just after 7 pm, and we will rotate tables if we have more than 4 players. Card players of all level are welcome. We play primarily 4-handed double deck Pinochle but other variants are have been tried on occasion. Games go from 6 pm until Panera closes, which currently is 9 pm. This event is scheduled to repeat every other Wednesday night. Please don't wait until the last minute to RSVP.
June Tourney
June Tourney
**HOW DOES THE NOVATENNISLEAGUE TOURNEY WORK? EVERY MATCH COUNTS** **Tennis Tourney Basic Concept** Our tourneys are a single elimination format with a consolation bracket. Meaning you are guaranteed at least 2 match-ups. This tourney format will not be played at a single location over a weekend instead players are given 7 to 10 days to play each round's match. **Expectations - Updated 3/30/21** Our tourneys will be mixed gender unless we have particularly strong female enrollment in a city. The tourneys will be singles based until we receive enough response to open it up for doubles. This is the most competitive format we are offering. We now won't guarantee leveling in Tourney's. If we have enough players we will create two draws based upon perceived level. We strongly advise low level players NOT to join the format as there will be higher level players in the draw. **Our Guarantee** We need at least 6 players to make a tourney bracket. If we can NOT reach this criteria we'll send you an email offering a refund or we'll enroll you into the next tourney with your entry fee. Our hope is to run multiple skill level brackets for multiple draws. **The 7-day money back guarantee expires as soon as the tourney starts.** Tourneys will NOT allow for late enrollment. Players will be entered into the tourney that associates with their TLN's Player Rating. If a **NEW** player (Someone whose played less than 6 matches with our service) wants to join the tourney they will **agree to be placed** in the tourneys highest bracket. (This is admin's discretion) The League reserves the right to remove a player from a bracket if it is determined by match results that said player has more likely underrated their playing ability. **Your Schedule and Availability** We give first round opponents two weekends to play the first match and then each following round will have a full week to play the match. Players need to be available to play for at least the first 3 weeks after kickoff. Players with 1-week work trips or week long vacations during the first 3 weeks shouldn't participate in the tourney. Seedings The NoVATennisLeague staff will seed 25% of the participants based veteran status (Most number of matches played in their career) with the program. If we have 8 players enrolled we'll seed the top 2 players, 16 players the top 4 players. The rest of the players will be randomly entered into the draw. **Consolation Bracket** We will run a consolation bracket for the players who lost their first match. Seedings for the consolation bracket will be randomly selected by the NoVATennisLeague staff. The winner of the consolation bracket will receive at least a $25 Gift Card. Matches need to be played to crown a consolation bracket winner. **Where to Play?** Because the seeding of the tourney is mainly randomize the higher seed will NOT have home court preference. The league strongly suggests you meet half-way to cut the commute in half for both players. We provide an extensive list of [tennis courts](https://www.novatennisleague.com/TennisCourts) that have user submitted ratings. If two players need guidance they can certainly email our staff for suggestions. **Playing Format** The preferred playing format for tourneys should be 2 sets with a 3rd set tie-breaker or 2 out of 3 sets. If the two players can't agree the default format will be the 2 sets with a 3rd set tie-breaker. In NYC we will accept 10 game pro set results mainly due to court availability. **Target Audience** This will be our most competitive format. The target audience is for the player who are good sports and love to play competitive matches. **Prize Pool** Starting in 2022 all Tourney's will now have a Cash Reward option. 70% of the proceeds will be awarded back to the Winner, Finalist and Consolation Bracket Winner. The players can choose a Paypal payment and/or items from the Prize Pool at the nominal value of $25 each. Prize Pool is a choice of a combination of Free Seasons, $25 Gift Cards, Items from the Swag Page or donations to Cancer Research Institute or Boston Food Bank. All tourney champions will be receive an entry into the End of the Year National Tournaments at the champions discounted rate. Cost to Participate First fifteen players will pay only $29.95. Following players will pay $34.95. A low cost way to play competitive tennis. Board Game Night @ Ballston Quarter Food Court, 6:30-10:00
**NEW GAME LOCATION at The** Let's play board games. Not the ones your ancestors played but the really cool ones of the new millennium. We play everything from fun, social games to light to heavy strategy games. Don't know how to play? Not a problem - we're happy to teach. You can build a railroad, eradicate a plague, or explore the far reaches of the galaxy in one evening. While many will bring their own games, you can show up gameless and still play. We play at the Ballston Quarter mall basement food court on Wednesday from 6:30-10:00. It's within walking distance from the Ballston metro and there's evening parking in the garage for $1. **Find us at the tables with the boadgames.** Look for a group that has containers and carrying bags with multiple games.

1JennyFan's General Gaming Meetup!
1JennyFan's General Gaming Meetup!
Both primary COVID-19 vaccinations are REQUIRED to enter. No vax, no entry. No exceptions. Please preferably share your vaccine status in the #vaccine channel on our Discord, either via https://vase.vdh.virginia.gov/vdhapps/f?p=545:1 or photograph of your vaccine card. If you're not comfortable sharing your status online, you can also physically bring your card. Attendees come at their own risk. In terms of setup, I have a TV for videos and general gaming, a monitor in a different room for smaller games, let's plays, and streaming, and a projector in the loft for movies and larger games requiring more space like Dance Dance Revolution, Just Dance, and Guitar Hero/Rock Band. For consoles I have PlayStations 2 through 4 plus a PS TV, Wii/Wii U, Switch, and PC. I often move my consoles around (either for let's play or streaming purposes or to bring them other places), so if you can't find what you're looking for just ask. I don't own any XBox consoles but you're welcome to bring yours if you'd like! Extra consoles, controllers, games, and screens are always welcome; just let me know in advance if you're able so we can plan for it. :) My game & console/controller list is here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/11LvIAgla39HtYpx9PLf6AaVj7DI3i7ypox8qSj23SCo/edit?usp=drivesdk When you arrive please park in a space that does NOT have a number; if those aren't available we have lots of open street parking within the Penderbrook community (I'm right in the middle so either side is cool; parking on Center Way or the middle of Penderbrook Drive is best) but please don't park on a yellow curb or you might be towed! You'll want to turn onto Golf RIDGE, and then onto Golf TEE where I'm the first house on the left. When you enter walk all the way up and to the right; look for the Super Mario Bros. doormat. I'm about 10 driving minutes from the Vienna/Fairfax metro station. We usually go out for dinner at around 5 PM; I live a short drive away from lots of shopping centers including Fair Oaks Mall, Pender, Fairfax Shopping/Towne Center, Fair Lakes Promenade, Fair Lakes Center, and Fairfax Corner. Here's a list of restaurants in the area by food type: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Mn6ytvuaaGaBlpVT-9pBSh8fv6X8_V9wzl4eQKYzRT0/edit?usp=sharing And by shopping center location! https://docs.google.com/document/d/1DZe-ZY5_hKk9SaCSfyjh2eZLNHXTFQLC0QAW12AnYto/edit?usp=sharing Please follow the group's rules & guidelines below: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1PS-UUkkFQ1JDaMp7pCTSGMu2Rqm58X7srdCzhN0Y-xA/edit?usp=drivesdk I also have a few more guidelines, but they're pretty easy to follow: Gaming equipment are not toys. Please be responsible with other people's controllers, consoles, games, furniture, etc. Accidents happen, but if you continuously break things you won't be allowed to use people's equipment. Try and keep a positive atmosphere. A lot of people attend the group to escape from their daily lives. Don't feel like you need to leave your problems at the door, everyone needs to vent once in a while, but please attempt to not do so the whole meetup. We're here to have fun after all, so try and keep it that way! <3

With Christopher Nolan's film adaptation on the horizon, it's time for us to finally read one of the most iconic classics of Greek literature: Homer's *Odyssey*! June Grand Gaming Melee
June Grand Gaming Melee
At long last, construction work at Arlington Central Library is complete, at least in the area that’s most important to AARGGH: the auditorium. The librarians are delighted to welcome us back for the first Grand Gaming Melee there in nearly three years. As in pre-construction days, we’ll have board games, card games, dice games, tile games, and just about every other kind of game that can be played on a tabletop. Bring games you want to play, or come without games and play what others bring. If you see a new one you want to try, there will be plenty of people eager to teach you. Don’t forget snacks! You’ll need to replenish your energy during the day, so please bring something delicious to share. Cookies, crackers, and pretzels are popular options, as are sodas and juices. Some people bring doughnuts, cupcakes, or other substantial sweets; these are always appreciated and disappear quickly. Others may provide healthy treats of fruit and vegetables – we appreciate everything you bring to share! **AN EXTREMELY IMPORTANT NOTE:** While the library welcomes us with open arms, it does not offer us an open refrigerator. Due to remodeling in the building, we no longer have access to a kitchen. **If you bring any drinks or foods that should remain chilled, you must bring a cooler for them.** Your host – as always – will bring a couple of coolers filled with freshly brewed iced tea and excellent store-bought lemonade. Undoubtedly there will be demand for more drinks than he can carry, so a few attendees should heed the call of the thirsty. If you bring something else to drink, please provide cold storage for it. You may want to coordinate such an effort with your fellow players to supply maximum variety of beverages with a minimum of containers; feel free to post comments on this page for this purpose. Food and drink will be deployed on the stage at the front of the auditorium to separate it from the playing area. Official start time is 10:30am, but you may arrive as early as 10:00am to help with setup. Cleanup begins around 4:00pm (or whenever you decide that you can’t squeeze in one more game before the end of the event). The librarians appreciate our vacating the auditorium by 4:30pm, and by “appreciate” they mean that our compliance determines whether we’ll be invited back for another Grand Gaming Melee. Arlington Central cleanup instructions: * Place all trash in the bins provided. Make sure that no scraps of paper, cardboard, or food remain on the floor. * Leave the tables and chairs where you used them. The next group can deal with setup the same way we did.

Extensions allow developers to customize the editor with new features, integrations, and workflow improvements tailored to their needs. In this session, we’ll cover what extensions are and the different types available, including full extensions written in TypeScript or JavaScript, along with lighter-weight extensions such as color themes, language packs, language support, code snippets, and keymaps. We’ll also look at practical reasons a developer might create an extension, from automating repetitive tasks to adding custom tooling. The session includes a hands-on walkthrough of creating a new extension, testing it locally, and understanding the basic project structure. We’ll close with a brief overview of how extensions are packaged and published to the Visual Studio Marketplace and other distribution options. **YouTube Link** TBD
