Hck4G Meetup #0x15 "Stop Spying On Me!" – Disrupting Adversarial DNS Queries

## **"Stop Spying On Me!" – Disrupting Adversarial DNS Queries**
Register here: https://events.humanitix.com/hck4g-meetup-0x15-stop-spying-on-me-disrupting-adversarial-dns-queries
### **Event Overview**
Hck4G returns with Meetup #0x15, continuing our mission to build practical, community-driven cybersecurity capability that provide legitimate pathway into cybersecurity for young people.
This session explores the hidden risks behind everyday internet usage; specifically, how online advertising and tracking ecosystems have evolved into security and privacy threats, and what defenders can do about it.
### **Talk Overview**
Online advertising is no longer just an annoyance — it has become a significant attack surface for both individuals and organisations.
Ads and trackers consume large amounts of data, profile users, and are increasingly leveraged for malware delivery and cybercrime activity.
This session follows the journey of building a whole-of-home advert and threat blocking system using a DNS blackhole, highlighting both the effectiveness of DNS filtering and the ongoing challenges defenders face.
What starts as a simple setup quickly becomes an arms race, as modern devices and operating systems bypass traditional controls using:
* **Hard-coded DNS resolvers**
* **DNS over TLS (DoT)**
* **DNS over HTTPS (DoH)**
Attendees will gain practical insight into how DNS filtering works, why it remains relevant, and how encryption is reshaping both privacy and network security.
### **Speaker**
**Dr Joel Panther**
Joel is a cybersecurity researcher, offensive security specialist, and educator with over 15 years of experience across system administration, penetration testing, and security consulting.
In his consulting work, Joel specialises in offensive security practices, including vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, and security training. Joel is an active contributor to the cybersecurity community as a speaker, mentor, and educator. He regularly presents on topics spanning security, privacy, and ethics. His work often explores the intersection of cybersecurity and societal impact, with a particular focus on emerging threats in areas such as artificial intelligence and cybercrime.
His PhD produced a framework for designing dynamically generated penetration testing laboratories, and his current research focuses on offensive security skills development. Joel is deeply committed to education and workforce development, supporting initiatives that strengthen pathways into the cybersecurity profession. He has led the design and delivery of CyberCX’s security testing training program, which provides early-career professionals with a structured blend of formal training and practical, real-world experience.
When he’s not in the basement hacking, he can be found at cybersecurity community events across Australia. Known as one of the top offensive security education voices in Australia.

Explore Melbourne is the largest meetup group in Australia. We have seven simple rules in place to protect our community and for everyone to have a positive experience.
❌ **Not a dating group!** – We’re here to make friends, not find soulmates. No flirty business, please!
📵 **No phone numbers**, please! – Feel free to swap social media if both parties are cool with it, but let’s keep our digits private. Please **don’t add people to WhatsApp or other groups**.
🔞 Our events are only **open to people aged 18 and older**.
📢 Please **do not advertise other events or groups**.
😅 **Don’t be a social octopus!** – Give people space to chat with others. Please don't be clingy.
🚗 We **don't allow carpooling** due to safety incidents/our public liability insurance not covering motor related accidents.
💰 **No sales pitches!** – No selling, no MLMs, no pyramid schemes, no “life-changing mentorship” offers—let’s keep things scam-free.
By joining this event, you’re giving us a virtual pinky promise 🤝 that you’ll follow the rules. Break them, and—poof!—you’re out for good. No second chances, no do-overs. Let’s keep it fun, friendly, and drama-free!

Melbourne Gay Men 40+ Support Group
Welcome to the Melbourne 40+ gay men support group!
My name is Steven Cabral and I am a trained group facilitator and counsellor. The idea for this support group was born out of a gap in community service that I observed where mature aged gay men could share and relate to each other in midlife. I found that most of the services seem geared towards the younger generation and rightly so, but I feel there is a particular experience in middle age and onwards that needs to be honoured, supported, and acknowledged.
As we transition into a different phase of life, we are faced with a different set of challenges. It is my belief, from my own experience, that some of these are directly, but not exclusively, tied to our sexuality and that can influence self-actualisation later in life in various ways.
Some of us may be carrying trauma from a time where we weren't as readily accepted. This may be seeping through other areas of our life and affecting our beliefs of self-worth and love, completely unbeknownst to us. Some of us may be feeling alone at this phase in our lives because we didn't follow the well worn societal map followed by the majority; such as having kids and partners. As a result, we may feel alone in a peer groups or especially within our own families. Some of us may simply be struggling to navigate this new phase and all that it entails ranging from dating in middle age to bigger questions of how to find meaning and purpose in our lives. Some of us may be dealing with grief.
If any of this resonates with you, then I want you to know that you are not alone. My hope for the group is that you feel a sense of belonging and shared experience. That, in of itself, can be extremely healing.
The group is not a substitute for therapy, but a safe space to share and connect with others on a similar journey and to find and give inspiration.
The group is specifically targeted to gay men who are aged 40+ due to the topics covered. Due to the limitations of the space and the need to keep it intimate, there is a maximum of 10 attendees.
Venue:
Sussex Neighbourhood House Inc.
7 Prospect St, Pascoe Vale VIC 3044
Date/Times:
Once a month on Mondays 7:30pm - 9:00pm
\*\* Door will be closed 5 mins after group starts so as not to disrupt the group.
Booking a spot in group:
If it is fully booked, please ALWAYS go on Wait List - the app automatically gives you a spot as soon as someone drops out. I will reminding RSVP'd attendees to change their RSVPs to *Not Going* if they are no longer going, so that those on the Wait List get their place.
If you regularly don't show up and don't let me know - I will be in contact to see if there are any issues.
Fees:
$10.00
This purely to cover the cost of the venue where group is held as well as Meetup subscription.
Guidelines:
An opening creed will be read at the beginning of each group session. It is paramount though that ALL attendees feel safe, welcomed and respected at ALL times.
The group acknowledges the traditional owners of the land and I'd also like to extend that acknowledgement to those with lived experience of mental health challenges.
Thank you so much for reading this far - I look forward to meeting you in person. Remember, it only takes a baby step to start change.
Please message me directly with any questions.
Steven Cabral.

It's Jugger time! Get on down to Hawthorn for fun, sun, exercise, and silly shenanigans!
* ✅ Free to attend
* ⚔️ Jugger Equipment is supplied
* 🍜 Post-training social lunch - all welcome
* ➡️ [Find us on Discord](https://discord.gg/WHnMyk56Cu)
Jugger is an exciting, mixed-gender soft combat sport. Two teams use a selection of padded foam spars to tag opponents as they aim to put the jugg (the game ball) into their opponent's goal.
**Watch Jugger being played in [this excellent short demo video](https://vimeo.com/28592980).**
Jugger Melbourne training sessions include both full games of jugger, as well as a variety of training drills designed to promote **teamwork, communication, exercise, health and fitness, and teach core game skills.**
After training we head across to Glenferrie Rd for lunch and socializing, which you are welcome (and encouraged!) to join.
**🏃♀️➡️ New Player Info / Who Can Join**
New players are always welcome! Our experienced coaches will teach you basics to get you and and swinging in no time Jugger is easy to pickup the basics while deep to master.
We have a minimum age policy of 16 years (please note, anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a guardian), but other than that we welcome anyone of all fitness levels. Jugger is a great way to keep active, and a fun way to meet new people in a friendly and inclusive community!
**👟 How to Join a Session and What to Bring**
Joining is simple - just show up! RSVPing on Meetup or Discord is a big help as it helps us plan around expected numbers. You are also welcome to bring along any interested friends and family.
**⚔️ Jugger equipment is supplied.** We have a collection of gear to loan out to new players.
Bring a water bottle (there is a tap nearby), sunscreen, and wear comfortable clothes and shoes for running around in - and that you don't mind getting a bit dirty!
Recommend but not required items include: sunglasses, football boots, kneepads, and gloves if you have them. You don't need any of these to get started, but you may find you want them if you become a regular.
**✅ Are there any costs are involved?**
Our training sessions are **free to attend** as often as you like, we are essentially just a group of friends that meet for training and socializing on the weekend.
The Australian Jugger League has a voluntary annual membership that helps to support the sport (including maintaining equipment and paying for Meetup), and we encourage people to join once they become a regular attendee or begin attending tournaments. However there's no obligation so spend any money when you're first trying it out or just attending casually.
**➡️ External Links**
We organise our regular players through our Discord group and their attendance is not often represented in the Meetup attendance numbers (we use Meetup to reach out to new people).
Events are also (though less regularly) posted to Facebook, while event photos and videos are shared on our Instagram.

Board Game Social Hangout - NeuroSparks x NeuroDisco Collab!
Hi all, us at NeuroSparks and our friends over at NeuroDisco are hosting another monthly board game event! Whether you're new to boardgames, or an experienced player, this could be a great way to meet like-minded people and have some fun too.
**The venue:** Drop in at Gameology from 12pm onwards, there will be a wide range of board games for you to grab and play, but you can also bring a board game from home if you'd like. Gameology is also a games store, so feel free to browse what they have available or chat to the friendly staff for help or questions at any time.
The board games room where we’ll be hanging out in is on the left as you enter the store and has air conditioning. It also has a limited drink selection, however you’re free to bring food from outside to enjoy in between playing. The cafe across the road called Lux Foundry, or Ima Pantry around the corner are particularly good! But please be mindful of avoiding getting either the venue's or other attendee's games dirty.
Each month Gameology collects donations for a different charity. Since they very kindly let us borrow their space, if you attend this event it would be appreciated if you could make a gold coin donation. While a donation is not compulsory, it is greatly appreciated in getting a little more community love and support.
**Location:** There is very limited parking at the front of the store as well as in the surrounding area. However, the venue is close to public transport. The closest train station is Anstey station on the Upfield lane and the number 19 tram on Sydney road. There is also the number 508/509 bus line, with the closest stop being on the corner of Sydney road and Blyth street. The venue will also be closing at 5.
We'd love to see you all there and if the event goes well this could possibly become a regular event!
**PS:** If you have any questions about this event, feel free to message either myself or Ki.
The event is open to all neurodivergent people and anyone who values a friendly, inclusive space. Many attendees come on their own, so if you’re feeling a bit hesitant, know you’ll be in good company and warmly welcomed. If at any point you have concerns or feel uncomfortable about any group member, please notify one of the organisers.

Spec-Driven Development with GitHub Spec-Kit - Barret Blake
Spec-driven development flips the traditional workflow on its head: instead of code being the source of truth, the specification becomes the backbone of design, collaboration, and delivery. In this session, we’ll explore how GitHub Spec-Kit enables teams to treat specifications as first-class artifacts—living documents that drive architecture, implementation, and verification.
You’ll learn how Spec-Kit helps teams clearly express intent using structured, version-controlled specs that live alongside code. We’ll walk through a practical workflow that starts with defining system behavior and constraints, then progressively refines those specs into testable, automatable outcomes. Along the way, we’ll show how specs can reduce ambiguity, improve cross-functional collaboration, and make design decisions explicit before a single line of production code is written.
This talk will cover:
--What spec-driven development is (and what it isn’t)
--How GitHub Spec-Kit fits into modern developer workflows
--Using specs to align product, engineering, and AI-assisted development
--Real-world examples of turning specs into implementations with confidence
Whether you’re building greenfield systems, integrating AI into your stack, or trying to reduce costly rework, spec-driven development offers a scalable way to move faster without sacrificing clarity. Attendees will leave with concrete patterns and a clear mental model for adopting GitHub Spec-Kit in their own projects.

Rethinking Knowledge Work in the Age of AI
We invite you to an in-person session in Seattle exploring the real impact of AI on knowledge-driven industries — from shifting economics and the disruption of traditional SaaS and consulting models to where organizations can still build lasting competitive advantage.
As AI platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini continue to redefine how work gets done, organizations face a critical question: how can they adapt, remain competitive, and create lasting value?
We’ll discuss practical strategies for integrating AI while preserving human expertise, along with actionable approaches to upskilling teams for an AI-driven workplace. Drawing on real-world experience from training thousands of professionals and deploying AI solutions, this session will provide clear, applicable insights for today’s evolving landscape.

**Venue for April:** Aslin Beer Company (https://www.aslinbeer.com) - Aslin Beer Co. was founded in 2015 by Andrew Kelley and Kai Leszkowicz. They bonded over a shared interest of craft beer and home-brewing, which eventually lead to the idea that “We can do this too.”
