Handy Bikes | Beginners' No Drop Ride
Handy Bikes | Beginners' No Drop Ride
Meet in the parking lot of the Handy Bikes Service Center. At the start of each ride, we'll go over introductions to have a sense of participants' cycling experience. Over the course of our rides, we'll address the following: group riding dynamics; safety (ABC check & trail hazards); gear shifting; hill climbing; audible and hand communication within the group, with other trail users, and automobile drivers; what to bring on each ride; etc... Bring your questions, water & a snack. When it starts getting dark earlier, we'll need lights as well. Helmets a MUST. If you can, and especially if you've had issues with your bike, come a bit early to have it looked at ahead of the ride. PS - all levels are welcome to join, however, be mindful that if you are an experienced rider, please be prepared to ride at the pace of the newest rider in the group. Each week, depending on who's in attendance, and participants' riding ability/comfort level, we may do skills practice as a group in the parking lot or at the west end of Wheeler Ave. Once everyone is comfortable, we'll go for a ride on local trails and neighborhood streets and finish back at the shop. Happy Pedaling !! \~Maya
Hiker Happy Hour - The Crown and Crow
Hiker Happy Hour - The Crown and Crow
HHH Spring Edition. Does disappearing into the wilderness with a group of strangers put you on edge? Then come to a casual happy hour and get to know us first. This is a great time to meet your fellow outdoor enthusiasts and get connected - without needing to gear up. This time, let's go to DC and check out The Crown & Crow (Logan Circle). 7pm. The Crown & Crow is a massive underground bar with a speakeasy feel. The only signage outside is a gold emblem of a crow with a crown on it's head. Once you see this, follow the stairs down to the bar. Please update your RSVP if your plans change so that we have an accurate headcount. Thanks!

Saturday at the MLK library DC & Portrait Gallery
Saturday at the MLK library DC & Portrait Gallery
Come Craft with us at either the MLK Library or the Kogod atrium of the Portrait Gallery. There are generally knitters/crocheters/needle workers in both places. Our success has made us a fairly large group so we are meeting in both places on Saturdays. Don't let the lack of RSVPs stop you, they aren't required, nor is membership to our group. Bring your project and join a boisterous group of crafters in first floor of either building.
Virtual Yarn April 4th
Virtual Yarn April 4th
Let's get together virtually! We can chat, show off our current projects, and get some support from our fellow yarn addicts. I have set up a Zoom meeting that anyone with a computer (phones count) with the free Zoom app can access. By Saturday, I will send a meeting ID to all attendees through meetup.

Cherry Blossom Ride from Fletchers Boathouse
**This event is cross-posted from Mid-Atlantic Outdoors Meetup. Check back to see if the event is delayed or cancelled.** **NOTE:** **We will lock our bikes up and walk around, so you must bring a lock.** **PARKING & MEETUP SPOT** Park in the lower lot, Fletcher’s Cove Boathouse parking lot. (You need to drive through a tunnel to get to the other side of the canal.) There is ample parking there. We'll meet at the far end of the parking lot **RESTROOMS** Restrooms are located here as well as at the Tidal Basin. **DISTANCE & PACE** The distance will be about 14 miles total, out and back. The pace will be casual, around 10 miles an hour. We will stop to regroup, occasionally. **BIKE INFO** Road tire bikers will be fine on the paved Capital Crescent Trail, but hybrid or wider would feel better for the unpaved C&O Canal Trail which has a lot of small river rocks in this section. (These trails are parallell to each other.) **RIDE INFO** We'll ride on both paved and unpaved surfaces. We'll start our adventure from Fletcher's Boathouse and bike on the C&O Canal towpath/Capital Crescent Trail towards the Tidal Basin to see the cherry blossoms. Historic sites will be explained as we ride around Georgetown, DC and the canal boat may be seen, too. After seeing the cherry blossoms, we'll reverse direction. On the way back, we'll stop at the locally famous Baked and Wired cafe near the C&O Canal, which has indoor and outdoor seating as well as restrooms. Here's their website for more info: [https://bakedandwired.com/](https://bakedandwired.com) On the ride, expect to see early-season wildlife such as turtles emerging from their winter dormancy, along with blue heron, and deer that roam the surrounding woods. **Biking involves inherent risks and requires that participants be in proper physical condition. When you RSVP "yes" to this event, that RSVP is your digital signature attesting that you have read, understood, and agreed to the group's Liability Waiver and Release, located here:** [https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mD_vRF62MaCBUyVsx_qzi72hCpaZsqr_/view**](https://drive.google.com/file/d/1mD_vRF62MaCBUyVsx_qzi72hCpaZsqr_/view**) **• All bikers must have a profile photo or you will not be allowed on the ride.**
**• You MUST bring water, cell phone, ID card, and cash or credit card for emergencies.** ***\- If you want to make a difference you have to be different*** ***-
